wOw Scenes: Our Desks

It wa such a friendly gesture to show us your desks. Women taking themselves seriously and making a place of their own. Thanks for the generous gift of yourselves.

wOw's Views on the News: Poll Says Majority of Dems Want Clinton as Vice President

Obama’s vacant immaturity covers what? He doesn’t strike me as a person who has a breadth of attitude to incorporate the ideas of Hillary Clinton. He sees her as a fearsome mother-figure and himself as a cringeing son. Hillary Clinton has the intelligence, breadth of attitude and fierce fighting ability that this country needs in its president. I think the mostly male superdelegates form a men’s club intent on maintaining a male in office.

HerTube: This Is Our Kind of Commercial

The only way this could be a pick of the week is if there were a “Let’s portray a sexist attitude” contest. In the old feminist days (early 70’s), this video would be called a “click” which means let’s share with other women the manner in which we are undervalued, discriminated against against and condescended to. Ugh! I prefer making my own income and making my own decisions as to what I want in life. I do love the Dawn French reference. Now look at French and Saunders skits to see sexism exposed. They would be my “pick of the week”. And the idea of “Why can’t we laugh at ourselves” attitude is reminiscent of the early Feminist put down that “Women have no sense of humor”. Well, it’s thirty eight years later, and out lack of sense of humor has gotten us better educated women, more women holding jobs, good child care, better health care and more independence. And do you want a sense of humor? Laugh all the way to the bank, to work, and to the presidency.

Gypsy in Venice

Thank you, Mary. I really enjoyed seeing those photos. I was in Vinice many years ago and remember sitting in an out of the was cafe on the canal and eating for the first time black pasta with seafood sauce. We enjoyed that so much. Venice is a thrilling place to visit.

'wOw Friend' Judith H. Dobrzynski: 'A Moment So Sublime That My Eyes Start to Water'

The description of your eyes watering is so interesting because this is involumtary. I work as a psychoanalyst with patients who have pre-verbal resistances. These resistances respond to emotional communications and interventions. They don’t respond to rational interpretations. They get cured in the presence of heartfelt communications. The first sense that humans experience is hearing. It is a primitive experience. When my grandson was born, I walked with him and sang over and over,”Hey, little Eli, we love you”. He is now two and a half. When I sing that song to him, his body relaxes so completely that he sometimes lies down on the floor, smiling in ecstacy. I think that when we are in ecstacy over beautiful music, we are responding on an early non-verbal and primitive level.

Olbermann and Matthews Take It on the Chin from Hillary!

About six weeks ago, I heard Chris Matthews make a Freudian slip. Instead of saying “I can’t agree with her”, it sounded clearly that he said,l “I can’t agree with whore”. Need more be said about the unconscious? On another occasion, instead of saying “Do you think Hillary will lose”?, he said, “Do you think Hillary will fall off the train?”. Boy, he must hate women!

It Happened Last Night: Meryl Streep's Talent Lights Up Lincoln Center

If you really don’t want to recognize Meryl Streep, watch Angels in America and see her a an old Jewish rabbi. She is a wonder!

Helen Mirren: 'Awards Are Wonderful ... But They Are Not the Main Course'

Thank you, wowowow, and Liz Smith and Helen Mirren for the wonderful interview. I am a fan of this talented actress. For those of you who want to now more about Helen Mirren, there is a web site called the Helen Mirren Appreciation Society. It is filled with interesting discussions of Helen Mirren’s career.

'Trust Your Gut, It’s the Only Thing That Separates You From Everybody Else'

Knowing and trusting gut feelings is much more difficult that I would think. It takes self-trust and a willingness to filter out other people’s opinions and biases. Often, dreams reveal gut feelings. You also need to trust gut feelings that may go against your formerly believed impressions. Psychic sensitivity and intuition are often ridiculed. HOw often have you known that someone would phone you or have you anticipated people’s responses. I agree that reason and reality testing have to play a part in decision making. AS a therapist, I was treating an older woman who came for therapy because she felt depressed and immobilized. As a young woman, she had accidently killed a child who ran into the street in front of her car. One day as she was talking about the accident,I felt a definite tingling in my right foot. To me shock and surprise, the thought planted itself in an illuminted way: she had stepped on the gas instead of the brake when she saw the child. I remained very shaken for a long time to have recognised this revalation. I never told her about this, but I think my knowing this may have affected her. Her depression started lifting and she moved on in her life.

What, or whom, do you take for granted?

At the age of 67, I finally take for granted that I can spend time in my head hating, being envious, dispairing, criticizing etc. and I won’t die or be struck dead for it.

Life in the Little Lane: Edith Ann on Having a Tantrum

One day when I was 9 years old, I had had it with my obnoxious neighbor, Kenny Spencer. So I pushed him to the ground, sat on top of him and punched him. I still remember the high I felt to finally get even with that jerk. Even his name is immortalized in my memory as the only person I ever beat up.

Life in the Little Lane: Edith Ann on Having a Tantrum

You know what, Edith Ann? When you scream and yell or when you turn into a clam, you are being the best you that you can. You are the you who says, “Boo Hoo”. You are the you who says , “Booooooooo”!!! You are the real honest-to-badness you. Nobody can do better than that!

Why Does Geraldine Ferraro Keep Hammering Away at Barack Obama's Skin Color?

I’m adding an addendum to my previous message because part of what I wrote didn’t get printed. So , Here goes, “Geraldine Ferraro is echoing what many feminists feel about the election. If a woman had Obama’s credentials, she wouldn’t be elected dog catcher! ” Then I continue on to the above post. Sorry for the mis-typing.

Why Does Geraldine Ferraro Keep Hammering Away at Barack Obama's Skin Color?

Geraldine Ferraro is echoing what many , she wouldn’t be elected dog catcher. It’s absurd that he refused to vote on 100 bills in the US Senate during his meager two year term. Was he refusing to commit himself to a stand because he didn’t want it used against him is he ran for Pres? Didn’t he know enough about the issues to vote? I think it’s outrageous. What do the people he represented in the Senate think about his “abstentions”? Ferraro was absolutely right in questioning his eligibility for the presidency. He is not qualified to be President. And it has got to do with his skin color. He is being given “extra credit” because he is black. I would happily vote for; a qualified person to be President, no matter what color he or she is. I’m voting for Hillary because she is qualified to do the job!
