Joan Juliet Buck: 'This Was the Reverse of 9/11'

Never, ever in my lifetime could I have expected the face of Jesse Jackson, bathed in tears as he stood in the crowd at Grant Park. Joan, this is not just the reverse of 9/11, it is the reverse of the last crowded demonstration in Grant Park. The horrific one in 1968. That Chinese curse, “may you live in interesting times”, brings not just the terrorists and the stock market crash, it has also brought us Barak Obama and the international joy of last night.

What would you do if your Internet went down for a week?

Depends on the week. I have, as many of us do, a community of internet friends. Early this summer I was the communication channel between the group and the family of one of our number who was dying. It was the worst possible time for a crash. I was lucky my husband had a connected computer for me to use and with the aid of the tech savvy among us I was able to set up email accounts with google and yahoo. I bought an inexpensive laptop and stayed with my friends as we all held a vigil. Losing the internet isn’t something that would normally upset me, it’s not a life or death matter. Except when it is.

Tina Fey's Palin Boosts 'Saturday Night Live' Ratings (Video)

And when asked about the SNL spoof Palin said she planned to be in the public eye for years to come and—-get this—-because she didn’t want to put Tina Fey out of work. Nobody needs to write material for Palin, she is fabulous at getting—-oh, sorry—-gettin’ her foot in her mouth all by herself.

Liz Smith Responds to Those Who Want to Tie Sarah Palin to the Stake, Setting Her Afire Before the Nov. 4 Election

If the President of a large corporation (your choice) named as his successor a district manager with little experience, imagine what the staff, shareholders, industry leaders and the press would say. That is what McCain has done in so elevating Palin.

Liz Smith Responds to Those Who Want to Tie Sarah Palin to the Stake, Setting Her Afire Before the Nov. 4 Election

At one point, back in March or April, I thought I could live with a McCain presidency. Not now. Here is a man running to be the oldest President and who does he choose to carry on if he cannot? He chooses a person of small ability in order to pander to the least appetizing wing of his party. For Shame! Based on his choice of successor alone he has demonstrated unfitness for the office he seeks.

What job best prepares you for the presidency?

Not every Mayor of New York would have made a good President, but our incumbent, Michael Bloomberg, would be my first choice agaist anyone else in politics at this time.

Palin-tology: Sarah Palin’s Fashion Progress From Pink to Power Suits

Where is the fashion history story on Joe Biden?

Judy Bachrach: What's Not to Like About Sarah Palin?

Pro Choice, but only on her terms Sarah Palin advocates shooting wolves from planes and wants the polar bear removed from the list of endangered species. I believe that if a candidate puts on the pro choice mantle it should include all life, including protesting the death penalty and all wars. Those lives are less valuable than a fetus? Not to me.

Which four women would you like to see on Mt. Rushmore?

I’m surprised that no one in the first 10 pages has mentioned Sojourner Truth.
