How worried are you about swine flu?

I watched Dr. Sanjay Gupta on CNN this morning, broadcasting from outside the hospital in Mexico City where most of the flu victims have been taken, and I figured if he was comfortable in front of the cameras without a mask, then the rest of us should be fine if we take the sensible precautions that have been mentioned here. The words "epidemic" and "pandemic" are so loaded that repeatedly seeing/hearing them can cause panic. Instead of scaring us to death, the media has a responsibility to calm the public by reporting reliable information, not speculation and rumor.

I would so much appreciate your doing that, Jane - letting her family know that she touched our lives and that we were stronger for it. I recognized Bea Arthur as a great role model when she played "Maude" and I always felt grateful to her for paving the way. When I became a single parent with five children and a lot of worries, she not only made me laugh out loud, she exemplified the strength I needed. How wonderful that Bea and Lily were friends so late in Bea’s life. I’m sure she treasured their friendship, too. We should celebrate all the Bea Arthur moments - her great timing, her wonderful facial expressions, and her dignity as a tall, strong woman. I know she made me stand a little straighter.

Funny you should ask that question. I was looking at the wOw masthead just now; the haircolor AND haircuts of most of the powerful leading lights here are… guess what? Short and blonde!

Mugsy, thank you for mentioning Bea Arthur. When I read of her death today I felt as if I’d been punched in the stomach. She and the other Golden Girls have kept me company many, many nights when I’ve suffered from insomnia. And Maude was one of her great gifts to us - a real step forward for independent women. Oh, how I’ll miss just knowing she was a presence in the world. What a wonderful, bawdy, outspoken woman!

Love to all of you who loved Bea, too.

In order to pose a threat to anyone, a missle has to have the capacity to launch at least a one ton nuclear warhead. The N.K. missle head weighed roughly 300lbs. and went pfft in the ocean. They are many years away from developing anything that would reach Alaska. Please cite your "research" sources.
