10-Year-Old Hannah Powell-Auslam Battles Breast Cancer

Thank you as well, Whoopsie, for pointing this out.

10-Year-Old Hannah Powell-Auslam Battles Breast Cancer

Ugh!  THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH FOR POINTING THIS OUT!  I’m always taken back by the type of rationale that insinuates that because someone is overweight they have brought on their problems and to hear that about a 10 year old child just made me a little ill.  If I’m being hypersensitive or something, pardon me people, but this child is an innocent and to be facing what she’s facing at her age is just too much for me to absorb right now.

Farrah Fawcett Confronts Death as Ryan O'Neal Hides a Lawsuit

As usual, I agree with you C jay, and as you know this hits completely close to home for me, I didn’t watch the documentary, won’t watch and all the hype around it has made me very uneasy.  I’m not usually one to judge something that I haven’t seen for myself but there’s something that feels odd about this whole project, so I just know it’s not for me and only hope that it is not exploitive on any level.

Have you ever felt trapped? What were the circumstances?

I feel trapped every time I act in a way that denies my true self, and unfortunately I’ve done that too often in my life, usually in feeble attempts to try to please others.  It’s amazing how communicative your body is when you are taking a step in the wrong direction in your life, feeling trapped is one of those outcries and I am slowly yet steadily beginning to listen.

How do you define success?

As usual, reading your posts has been a treat, great question and great responses, thank you Wowsisters :)  (Joan, you are such a treasure and Suzanne, you blew me away).  I’ve always liked this quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson:

"The definition of success—To laugh much; to win respect of intelligent persons and the affections of children; to earn the approbation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to give one’s self; to leave the world a little better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition.; to have played and laughed with enthusiasm, and sung with exultation; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived—this is to have succeeded."

Some say that people crave simple pleasures in trying economic times. Which of these do you turn to when the going gets tough?

Oh yes, my dear! another example of the wise words that flow so beautifully from you :)

Lesley Stahl: My Hair Is Sprayed With Cement!

Once again you have made me tear up, my friend :) this is beautiful, and yes, you are right, I am well!

Rembrandt? Picasso? O'Keeffe? Tell us: Who is your favorite artist?

Sharon, as a fellow Goya admirer I just have to comment on one of my favorite stories of his- when he painted the Maja paintings the Duchess’s husband was incensed that he had the nerve to have his wife pose nude, to which he is said to have replied "don’t worry, she didn’t pose nude, I painted her from memory", haha! I love the fact that he was so subversive with all the royals :)

Rembrandt? Picasso? O'Keeffe? Tell us: Who is your favorite artist?

Oh, GT, I hope you get the opportunity to do so! I nearly fell back on my butt! the piece is amazing and you can palpably feel the angst coming from it, and then the scale of it is consuming, it really is something.

Which designer's fashions do you feel best understand the needs of real women?

I think that Narcisco Rodriguez does a hell of a job dressing women’s bodies beautifully, IMHO.

Rembrandt? Picasso? O'Keeffe? Tell us: Who is your favorite artist?

It’s tough, no, impossible for me to name just one, but artists that have moved me are Van Gogh, Modigliani, Matisse, Picasso (ever see Guernica in person? it screams!), Jasper Johns and Goya.  I could go on and on but I won’t :)

Lesley Stahl: My Hair Is Sprayed With Cement!

Thank you, Sylvia! very interesting site, I’ve been journaling on paper lately and it’s been good, will definitely try this.  And thank you for your kindness.

Lesley Stahl: My Hair Is Sprayed With Cement!

Dawn, thank you so much for your post, there is a lot of good information there and I really appreciate your sharing it with me.  I "think" I have a positive attitude, I’m generally a positive and optimistic person but who knows how I’ll react when it really starts to hit the fan so your point about anti-depressants is very well taken. It’s been exactly four weeks since all of this came to light and I’ve been thru a lot very quickly, it all seems surreal and hyper-real at the same time and I’m just doing my best to process it all, but every time someone reaches out and shows kindness it truly touches my heart and helps, so thanks to you once again :)
