Lesley Stahl: My Hair Is Sprayed With Cement!

Ok, once again, great timing on a subject- I have spent a lifetime battling my hair (thick and very curly, growing up in the Sassoon sixties when everyone wanted stick straight hair), huge hair rollers, Dippity Do, blow drying endlessly, I even remember ironing my hair on the toilet seat shag ruggie thing my mom used to have in the bathroom… and now I’m dealing with the fact that I will soon be my losing my hair for a while, I start chemo in a couple of weeks, and all of a sudden I LOVE my hair, ironic, no? well, I guess it’s not really a big deal but I find myself wondering what to do, a wig? scarves? hats? wow, this is gonna be odd, that’s for sure.  But not a big deal in the scheme of things, I’m just sort bemused by the fact that I have spent so much time being annoyed by instead of appreciating my hair, whatever…

Do you believe in fate?

Agyness! thank you! and I completely agree, there are some amazing women on here, Carol in particular is my angel :)  you are so kind to send your good wishes I thoroughly appreciate and embrace them and am so very happy to be back at it, thanks again.

Do you believe in fate?

Beautifully stated as usual, Joan, and boy, do I second the motion on Carol!  ;)

What's your motivation for watching the Super Bowl?

Joan, once again you are brilliant!

What's your motivation for watching the Super Bowl?

LOL, no kidding, Mugsy, you sum up my take on football perfectly, and I always trip on how a contest between a couple dozen US and 2 Canadian ball teams is called a “World Series” :)

Now that President Obama is officially in office, how are you feeling?

I feel very optimistic too, it’s not just that I believe Obama is sincere in his commitment to the betterment of our country, I feel that he truly believes in our core good and that is nourishing, and the fact that he is surrounding himself with intelligent, competent people is a joy, but on a simple personal level I feel like I have said goodbye to that ongoing anxiety of knowing that I could not trust the people at the helm one bit. I have spent years waiting for the other shoe to drop with the Bushies in the White House, and I now I feel like I can finally exhale.

Now that President Obama is officially in office, how are you feeling?

THAT is exactly how I feel, and it feels damned good.

Chrome Toe, you could have been literally speaking for me, this is the same thing I am feeling, my husband and I own a business together, have for 18 years (we produce commercials), and now we are struggling fiercely, things are scary but I, like you, feel a certain calmness because I know I have love and that’s what matters most. I just wish that I could somehow help my husband allow himself to feel that too.

The morning after ... What should post-presidency George W. Bush do from here?

LOL! Georgia, you crack me up! couldn’t agree more :)

The morning after ... What should post-presidency George W. Bush do from here?

I thoroughly agree, Georgia, and I was trying to be sarcastic, I found that quote to be horrific and it’s hard to even be able to put a snarky spin when trying to make a crack about it. I do remember Vietnam and seeing those images on TV and having my 5 year old brother crying because he was terrified of having to go to war. I was struggling with what to think about the original question on this post, I think that personally I would rather not ever have to see or think about any Bush ever again, but then again rather than slipping into collective denial about the things that went on during those years I think we have a moral obligation to demand accountability.

And “waste our beautiful minds” with those images? the following quote from the Bush matriarch I think speaks volumes about the whole clan: “Why should we hear about body bags and deaths,” Barbara Bush said on ABC’s “Good Morning America” on March 18, 2003. “Oh, I mean, it’s not relevant. So why should I waste my beautiful mind on something like that?”

Oh, dear God please don’t go to that Elian Gonzalez lunacy…

That’s the perfect place for the whole bunch! great idea
