Action! If you wrote and directed a film, which genre would it be?

OK, so what am I thinking?- I can’t believe I failed to ask you guys for an opinion on a documentary I am in the middle of producing- it’s called “Instant Gratification” and it’s basically a pop culture social commentary piece that calls out so many of the things that are haywire with society in general in the hopes of making people stop and think. We deal with 10 different subjects, e.g., the origins of war, religion, celebrity, self-help, racism, sex, money, among others, all done in an entertaining yet challenging tone. The creator/narrator is a young woman named Brigitte Secard who wrote a book called “Soulfire” which is based on moving forward the tenets of non-violence in the teachings of Gandhi, Mandela, King and Malcolm X and bringing them home into the individual. She’s very smart, life affirming and funny. What do you guys think? would you go see something like this?

Hi, Frannie, it’s in theaters now, it’s directed by Danny Boyle, the guy that did Trainspotting a few years back, and on the surface it’s about a contestant on the Mumbai version of “Who Wants to be a Millionaire?” but it has a ton of back story, I thought it was really well written and well directed.

Who Is Fareed Zakaria and Does He Know How to Fix the World?

Fareed Zakaria is the best thing on CNN, we used to look forward to any and all commentaries we could get from him and now with his Sunday show he stands head and shoulders above all the rest of the political talk shows. Instead of the formulaic left and right spokesperson of the week reciting their respective talking points he manages to get the best guests on his show and is smart enough to ask the right questions, he is brilliant. Can you tell I’ve got a little crush?

Remember when ... What is your favorite high school memory?

LOL, boy can I relate! the only guy that I could get to go to the prom with me was gay too, but he was my cousin too to top it off! I just couldn’t bring myself to do it, instead the night of my prom my best friend and I snuck into an over 21 Salsa club and I met the man of my dreams (well, at least of my dreams for the coming six months or so). High school really wasn’t for me :)

OK, definitely romance, but smart romantic comedies, like Annie Hall or Moonstruck, or something super emotional and romantic like Truly, Madly, Deeply, The Piano or Out of Africa but definitely movies that manage to move you somehow. I’m a sap for romance, that’s what I loved about Slumdog Millionaire, it takes you for a roller coaster ride but is ultimately a love story.

Liz Smith: Baz Luhrmann’s 'Australia' - Six (Fabulous!) Movies for the Price of One!

I just saw this movie, I let my husband pick which one we’d see and he’s all about big sweeping epic films but I thought this was flat out awful, even he was disappointed, it’s cartoonish at times, and it doesn’t quite make up it’s mind what kind of film it’s supposed to be. Thank God I was stilling reeling from yesterday’s “Slumdog Millionaire”, that one I thoroughly enjoyed.

Joni Evans's Must-See Movie for Thanksgiving Night (Video)

Oh, yeah, no kidding, the subtitles must have been hard to make out on a TV screen, let’s hope they re-do them when the movie is issued on DVD, they were perfectly legible on the big screen and I liked the way they were done. The movie was quite stylized I thought, the framing and compositions were great, Danny Boyle did a great job and I do hope it’s remembered at Oscar time. And you are so right! the credit roll sequence was the best! I was actually going to go to iTunes to see if the soundtrack was available because I keep humming the last tune. It’s one of those movies I’m going to recommend to everyone I know, I tend to be really picky with movies but this one had all the elements.

OK, so I can now report that this movie is indeed great! I enjoyed the hell out of it from the very first second, a very good script very well directed. Good call, Joni Evans :)

Cynthia McFadden: The Lunch That Changed Her Life

God, Deburca, EXACTLY what I was thinking! I swear with all the crap I have going on sometimes I get overwhelmed and unsettled and then I hear Obama somewhere and I am calmed, to think that we finally have a highly intelligent, inclusive, genuine, and empathetic person at the helm of this country is such a relief and inspires so much confidence. I wish there was an interview every day, I love these people as well!

Where can we find you at 3 o'clock on Thanksgiving?

Hi, everybody! I suppose at around 3 we’ll just be leaving the house headed out to a movie but I won’t whine about that anymore, already posted our plans on another thread and got some amazingly gracious and warm responses, made me feel all warm and fuzzy :) And to that end, I wanted to post something that I came across that made me think of some of the wonderful wo/men I’ve encountered on this site, wasn’t really sure where to post it but I figure in the vein of Thanksgiving sentiment this will be hopefully be relevant to some. While this isn’t an attempt to promote Deepak Chopra, the following link expresses a concept that I have always considered very important to the world, and that is, that the world will never be at peace until each and every one of us personifies peace within. I wish you all a wonderful Thanksgiving and above all, I wish you peace. http://www.itakethevow.com/

Joni Evans's Must-See Movie for Thanksgiving Night (Video)

Ditto! while I don’t have a screener that’s exactly the movie my hubby and I are going to see tomorrow, and since we’re having a solo holiday I’m not going to have to worry about being an overstuffed turkey myself :)

How are you preparing for tomorrow's holiday?

Haha! Thanks, Georgia! Consider me with you all in spirit! and Happy You-Know-What, Kryssi!

How are you preparing for tomorrow's holiday?

Wow, Frannie, enjoy every second with your son, that’s wonderful, and isn’t it great to enjoy your child’s sense of humor? there are few people that can bring me to tears laughing the way both my son and my brother can, sharing a laugh with them is always so genuine and visceral in a way. Sounds like your Thanksgiving is going to be great, I send my good wishes your way, and bless your boy :)

How are you preparing for tomorrow's holiday?

Phyllis, Carmel, Frannie, you guys have brightened my Holiday already! thank you so much.

How are you preparing for tomorrow's holiday?
