AARP's Health-Care Stance Stirs Controversy Among Members; Obama to Set Record Straight at NH Town Hall Meeting

I believe now if you switch plans within 63 days pre-existings don’t count against you.

Yes, the propaganda machine you don’t watch—but it has tripled its viewership, so I guess they are OK without you.

The problem is there are 5-7 "working" bills—I believe this is to confuse until the time they suddenly get all glommed together and signed.

Probably speaks volumes about Phoenix—our doctor situation is pathetic! Here is more…yes, NYT, sorry, but I thoughtliberals loved it…I guess I am not a lib anymore, not since this president. http://www.nytimes.com/2009/04/02/business/retirementspecial/02health.html

I believe they are trying to keep their fingerprints off anything that people hate and thus are letting Congress put in all their wish lists again, like they did with the stimulus—and not even Congress, but staffers—I used to write legislation, I know how this goes. Worker bees. The members and the president are not conversant with provisions being slipped in. But when two bills get to conference—if this happens—you can bet the fix will be in and the parties will know what goes and what stays. By fax, I mean—agreement. The WH is cutting side deals with the players now, acc to the NYT, which I gather is an impeachable source.

We need REFORM NOT REPLACEMENT. Concentrate on the uninsured or uderninsured, remove control from state insurance boards, no more cherry-picking, no canceling because someone gets sick (this has been stopped for the most part by the states), more admittances to med schools to counter doc shortages, maybe more med schools, etc. Just like they tackled SCHIP first, they should attack these problems one by one—not some weirdass wholesale explosion of untested ideas people dreamed up in grad school.

Anecdotally, I had to call three doctors I wanted before one would take a new Medicare patient—and that had to be with a supplemental. People can, of course, go in an advantage plan HMO, oh, that’s right, those are going to be cut, too generous. There is a huge shortage of geriatricians…I take care of my mother, she in an HMO, and they have one geriatrician and we checked him and he had complaints for overprescribing.

Well, that wasn’t the letters page—it was part of 440 comments—most of them not going your way, by the way. The crazed mob was at it again.

Yeah—you have a point…I am swamped today, but will do my own analysis tomorrow. Will you be watching Fox tomorrow?

I agree the communism stuff, Nazi nonsense, Astroturf, all those lame insults need to go. Yes, this came from a reader—I have not had time to vet it all—so feel free…his source is listed.

  1. It’s a myth that reform will mean a "government takeover" of health care or lead to "rationing." NOT IMMEDIATELYAS THE PRESIDENT SAID DURING THE CAMPAIGN, THIS CAN’T BE DONE RIGHT AWAY.
  2. The President has identified ways to pay for the vast majority of the up-front costs by cutting waste, fraud, and abuse within existing government health programs; ending big subsidies to insurance companies; and increasing efficiency with such steps as coordinating care and streamlining paperwork. In the long term, reform can help bring down costs that will otherwise lead to a fiscal crisis. CBO SAYS NOT TRUE.
  3. Reform would encourage "euthanasia": NOT PER SE, BUT NO NEED TO DEAL WITH WHAT MEDICARE WILL REIMBURSE OR NOT IN A BILL LIKE THIS. THIS IS DONE ADMINISTRATIVELY. CERTAIN ADVISERS ARE EXPERTS IN, AND BELIEVE IN ADJUSTED QUALITY OF LIFE CALCULATIONS. LAWYERS CALCULATE THIS IN SETTING AWARDS.
  4.  The VA Healthcare system will continue to be available for all eligible veterans. TRUE, AT LEAST FOR NOW……..
  5. Reform will benefit small business - not burden it: SM BIZ CAN PAY THE FINE FOR NO INS OR PUSH PEOPLE ONTO THE PUBLIC OPTION.
  6. It’s myth that Health Insurance Reform would be financed by cutting Medicare benefits—RIGHT IN THERE, IN THE BILL, MORE CUTS IN REIMBURSEMENT TO FUND 40% of THIS PLAN, SO-CALLED. FORTY PERCENT OF DOCS WON"T TAKE MEDICARE PTS NOW BEC THEY LOSE MONEY.
  7.  It’s myth that reform will force you out of your current insurance plan or force you to change doctors. IN THE HOUSE BILL, AT PRESENT, IT SAYS IF YOUR PLAN CHANGES, YOU CAN’T GET ANOTHER ONEPUBLIC OPTION FOR YOU.
  8. No, government will not do anything with your bank account: THERE WILL  BE A CARD WE WILL ALL HAVE WITH BANK INFO ON ITTHIS WILL NOT BE OPTIONAL. IF THEY WANT TO KNOW IF WE ARE POOR AND NEED SUBSIDIES, CHECK IRS.
