Panty Hose, Former Symbol of Women’s Lib, Dead at 43

Yes; I still wear pantyhose. I am old enough to remember the panty girdle and struggling to get in and out of it. Garter belts were pretty, but I also remember the garter digging into my thigh when I was sitting. After panty girdles, panythose seemed pretty darned liberating! I also tried spanx for my son’s wedding, then decided that no way would I be comfortable wearing it. (Sausage casing is right!) It is currently stuffed in my underwear drawer, unworn.

Has anybody tried the Starbucks chocolates? Yum! I also love Choxies which are only available at Target. My son and daughter-in-law are very disappointed if they come to visit and I don’t have Choxies in the house!

Are there ever times when life should most profoundly not be taken seriously?

I guess the hardest thing to do is to decide what part of life should be taken seriously and which isn’t. For the most part, keeping my sense of humor is what also keeps me going!

Good Grief! Team up with McCain? I certainly hope that she supports Obama, whatever he offers her! She actually might be most effective to remain the Senator from New York rather than go for the Vice Presidency.

Do you still think about the 'one that got away'?

Yeah. I do. I sometimes wonder where he is and what he is doing. I even googled him, but didn’t have any luck finding where he is. He was my first serious boyfriend, so I do wonder about him.

What television show do you miss the most?

Oh, wow, I really liked “Spin and Marty” also. Had the biggest crush on Tim Considine. Also miss The West Wing, the Mary Tyler Moore Show, Hill Street Blues, Murphy Brown. When I was in jr. high, I loved 77 Sunset Strip and Edd “Kookie” Byrnes.

What are your plans for Memorial Day weekend?

I will be attending our small community’s Memorial Day Parade, and listening to the “Four Corners Quartet” sing a medly of patriotic songs at our library(of which I am the Director) Our parade features the High School Marching Band, marching down the street to “This is My Country”, the Legion and the Legion Auxillary, the boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, and lots of kids who decorate their bicycles. The parade winds up at a town monument where two high school students recite the “Gettysburg Address” and “Flanders Field.” Finally, one of the HS band members plays “Taps” on his/her trumpet and the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts lay a wreath on the Portage River, which runs through our town. Everybody then goes down to the local Legion Hall for a Chicken Barbecue. Nothing like a Memorial Day in a small town!

Do you still smoke pot?

I was in college in Ohio from 1963 - 1967 and alcohol was still the drug of choice, then. I have always brushed my teeth before I go to bed, and I remember a number of times that my toothbrush tasted like gin the next morning!
