Serena! You KNOW how much I love this. Your writing is so wonderful to read - and so is the thread you created for us to follow, hopefully into our hearts. Inside everyone is a great shout of joy waiting to be born. Even with the summer so far off I feel it grown in me now and ready to arrive in the world. All those years listening to those who had nothing to say. All those years forgetting how everything has its own voice to make itself heard. All those years forgetting how easily you can belong to everything simply by listening. And the slow difficulty of remembering how everything is born from an opposite and miraculous otherness. If only everyone at wOw could have themselves a week to reboot at the Riviera. The renovation is all in pinks and reds - in homage to the throw-back mid-century style of the town. The hotel is within arm’s reach of the fastest rising mountain escarpment in the US - it’s so…right there. The economy may be sunk, but when you float on your back in their extra-large puzzle-piece pool and take in the warm sun, the bird song, and clear, open, cloudless blue sky - it’s hard to fathom how crazy the world has become. Let’s all meet in the pool!

By design, these crimes are going to prove largely untraceable. By design, the web of catastrophe is so vast, global and ubiquitous, it will remain out of legal reach. That doesn’t mean we shouldn’t identify and prosecute anyone who signed a worthless or false document. The fact remains, this was all done by human beings who signed papers they knew were fraudulent. Now, what are their names and on what streets do they live? Modified financial regulations were still in effect, but were handily eluded with labrynthine financial instruments. They still keep trying to blow economic theories up our skirts, only to buy time to complete their profit cycles. But this is also true: They did it because it could be done. It was a highly immoral form of innovation, but innovation, no less. And this force proves to be unstoppable. Until it’s usurped by greater innovation. With derivatives, synthetic bonds, CLO’s, mortgage bundling, hedge funds, super senior tranches, etc…we’re in the mixed-taped era of finance. It’s akin to the days when all kinds of songs were scrabbled together surreptitiously on cassettes and exchanged on the street, without consequence. It was a free-for-all. They said it was the day the music industry stopped. But it was the end of one era and the dawn of another. But what if innovation is taken away from the hands of the corrupt? What if we constructively rethink creative financing? I wonder if there’s an economic I-Tunes up ahead?
