Jane Wagner: In the Future ...

Hi Mugsy, I only wish I had more time to read and not write fiction. Diane Ackerman is spectacular. Her mind is so integrated with the American perception of nature and history, they’ve named a molecule after her. dianeackerone. What would you like to have named after you? Like, while you’re still roaming the earth. You bring up an interesting idea. Why not make lists of our favorite female influencers and take turns inviting/lobbying/petitioning them to write something, or dialogue with founders here at wow? Why the bloody ‘eck not? Maybe they’d welcome it. Make room on the dance floor. Let’s party like it’s 2009!

Think it’s time to take the captioners out for a drink.

Top 10 Female Quotes of 2008

I don’t suppoze thare haz ever lived a man without a single virtew. Even Judas Iskariot “went and hanged himself.” - Josh Billings. Why not surmise that Frank is Frank is Gulliver is Jim is probably also Dr. Klein? This organism had been attached to wow since day one. And he’s had a merry old time proving all his assumptions about women are true.

Joan Juliet Buck Speaks to Peter Eyre About His New Role in 'Terre Haute'

How strange. Gore Vida’s not dead yet. Why isn’t anyone asking him more about all this? He has a voluminous memory and has perfected the craft of of recalling his own opinions.

Jane Wagner: In the Future ...

Such a mind is kaleidoscopic, filled with a zillion tiny, colorful mirrors. Hope is the turning that makes it twinkle and shine - and new patterns shift into view. And I can’t help thinking what we need reflected now, is not so much probability as possibility. So many hopeful ideas and plans await on the periphery. Three words, for starters - The Venus Project. http://www.thevenusproject.com/

Judgment Day, by Joan Juliet Buck

Right up to the final minutes, it’s been a year of jaw-dropping, hecktacular insanity about the role religion should play, could play and better the hell not play in our social and governing contracts. From Wasilla to Wall Street, the road was splat with religious gall. Talk about sacrilegious. As a driving force for stasis, hardship, racism, homophobia, hate-baiting, trust-crushing, fear-mongering and poverty-inducing: this year the prize goes to ‘true believing.’ Does anyone truly believe we’re near the end of all this? I guess we can only pray. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XsH9eKW0u-g&eurl=http://videogum.com/arch…

Mugsy Peabody's Daily Deed Idea: Playing the cards in front of you

May I just acknowledge you, Mugsy - and wOw - for this section. There is a need for readers to have a warm room to stretch out in, too. Love seeing Mugsy’s name on the doorplate.

Jane Wagner: What Do I Know for Sure?

holding that beautiful picture in the window is the best gift a friend can offer. I’ve also had a young lover wither from cancer and die in my arms. the lithe, vital body - the humor- better to remember.

I especially like these, and have been mulling them over: That to love someone without reservation is the best thing you can do for yourself. - JW Whatever someone once was to you, they remain––in some corner of the mind, in some corner of the heart, in defiance of fairness, of reason, of history, of time. - PDP Pass that truth stick, ladies.

What Christmas carol says it all for you this year?

Bing and Bowie? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_zMhSjDqvRs I guess now’s our time to keep in mind that anything is possible.

What Christmas carol says it all for you this year?

Merry Christmas to the wow-o’sphere! Hope you’re all having a lovely day. I love me some Nat King Cole, too. I’m messing up the library, looking for our old Lawrence Welk music. Nothing on this earth is cornier to some, but I grew up listening to it. The Drummer Boy. Sounds of Christmas. Pa rum pum pum pum!

Christmas Greetings to All From Liz Smith

Twas the night before Christmas and Santa’s a wreck…
 All alone in a world gone politically correct.
 His work staff no longer would answer to “elves”,
 “Vertically challenged” they boldly referred to themselves.
 And labor conditions up at the North Pole,
 Were alleged by the union, to stifle the soul.

 Four reindeer had vanished, without much propriety,
 Released to the wild, by the Humane Society.
 And equal employment had made it quite clear,
 That Santa shouldn’t think he could hire just reindeer.
 So Dancer and Donner and Comet and Cupid,
 Were replaced with four goats - and you know that looked stupid.
 The runners came off of his beautiful sleigh, The ruts deemed too risk-prone by the EPA,
 And thousands of people were calling the cops,
 When they heard loud sled noises upon their roof tops.
 The smoke from his pipe made onlookers feel frightened, And his fur-trimmed red suit appeared “unenlightened”. He tried to be merry, he tried to be gay,
 (But you’ve got to be careful with that word today.)
 His sack was quite empty, it fell limp to the ground;
 And nothing exciting was jostling around! No baseball, no football…a child could get hurt;
 Besides, playing sports just exposed kids to dirt.
 Dolls were too sexist, completely passe;
 And games on computers would rot brains away.
 So Santa just waited, kerfuffled, perplexed;
 He really was stymied, what would he do next? A great thing was needed, a gift that he might
 Distribute quite freely, to both left and right. A gift to bring pleasure and incur no derision
 Among factions of people, of every religion;
 Among every ethnicity, in every hue,
 Everyone, everywhere…of course, even you.
 So here is that gift, it’s price beyond worth…
 May you and your loved ones accept peace on Earth.
