What is the biggest lie you have ever believed?

That Obama is “post racial”, McCain is not too old to be president and that the Clinton’s aren’t disliked in Washington and by the news all that much….I believed that there might be a happy ending to this year’s election, but I’m getting very nervous

Have you noticed rising prices? What is costing you more this month?

Vet bills have become so high over the past few years. Every visit is at least $250 for a regular check up or a minor emergency. Special diet food, meds, major medical problems…as much as I love animals I don’t think it will be possible to ever own another pet after our aging Westie is gone. Insurance of all kinds, medical, auto, home just continues to increase. We just moved our insurances to AARP’s suggested Prudential program, only to be told we didn’t get the very best rate because of a credit problem—-not due to late payments or anything like that. We actually have perfect credit, but what we didn’t have was a 40 YEAR CREDIT HISTORY (only 38 years….)

Have you ever been fired?

I was laid off several times during my working life. Each and every time I received severance pay and a huge going away party—often to be rehired at a hugh raise after I had been working with another company for awhile. Corporations (banks) no wonder they are in the shape they are currently in—no advance planning. Just do what you have to do for that next quarterly report.

Where are you putting your money? Stocks? Bonds? Real estate? Under the mattress?

Recently moved my 401k (stock/bond mutual fund mixture) into our credit union’s IRA (12 month CD’s at 4.11%). My husband is taking a beating on his 401k. We have no savings to contribute currently due to layoffs, our daughters college tuition and medical bills. AND we just figured out that, although we don’t really want to complain about this since our daughter has a wonderful paid internship that will probably turn into a great paying job, since she is paid as a independent contractor she needs to pay self-employment tax on her income taxes…meaning all of her rebate from Bush’s plan to stimulate the economy and a portion of ours will be used to pay her self employment tax. It’s really hard to get ahead. Actually, we use to be ahead, it seems like we are slipping backward faster and faster!
