How old were you when you first got married?

We’ve been married for 47 years after having married so young.  Too young, I think, but it was the best decision of at least my life.  I was nineteen and he was twenty-two; babies.  It was at that time and place in our lives the best thing for us; we found kindred souls.  And, forty seven years, four kids, nine grandchildren (one more coming) later it’s never been something I’ve regretted.

Who, in your opinion, is the most physically beautiful woman you've ever laid eyes on in person?

If my husband was very, very lucky, I would look like Diane Sawyer…….and she’s the one for whom I’ll cast my vote.

How many times have you read To Kill a Mockingbird?

Often, I do the reverse:  see the movie and like it so much that I must read the book.  I read the book, may read it again, love to read and am reading something or other at all times — sometimes more than one at a time.

Stimulus Not Working? Let's Have More! by Liz Peek

Well, I may be naive, but perhaps if they would all stop stealing things just may eventually work out — otherwise, why not give us all a little printing press for our basements.  Sorry, slapped my hand for that one.

'You're only as happy as your unhappiest child.' Is this old adage true?

There is another saying:  When children are small, they sit on your lap.  When they’re grown, they sit on your heart.  (I usually paraphrase and say "in my heart")

Mothers I think, are the ones who always made it better, with a kiss, a bandaid of some kind and it’s so very hard to see their chidlren suffering.  There’s that need to still "make it better".

What is your favorite thing about the 4th of July?

It was one of the most moving experiences of our lives; I’m glad I was able to convey in some small way the sense of that day.  Thank you for your comment.

Mark Sanford's Mistress, Maria Belen Chapur, Says Little About Affair; Wife Called a Hero

It is my belief that her stance may have contributed to her loss in the last election.

The wOw Conversation: Why Do People Put Up With Abuse?

On the subject of abuse and on many other subjects, I must say I’ve often thought the same thing about WOW — "it would be useful to have a member or two who came from the other side of the tracks."  Maybe a member or two who are still there.

What is your favorite thing about the 4th of July?

What is it about fireworks?  Eyes wide, mouth wider as we gaze in awe at the beautiful spectacle.  Are we people who just love that flash and bang?  Not too many of us really relate it to the "rocket’s red glare, the bombs bursting in air" and yet, there is just something so awe-inspiring about this celebration.  And when we DO relate it to the birth of our nation, how humbling.

Shortly after the horror of 9/11, my husband and I went to a local restaurant.  It was, and perhaps some of you will remember, the day that people wanted to show their support of  and love for their country and at 7:00 pm, eastern time, we were to go outside and light a candle.  The manager of this neighborhood restaurant came around to all the tables, told us they were going to go outside at 7:00 with candles, offered us each a candle and invited us to go.  We did.  There were maybe 50 of us outside on the sidewalk and in the parking lot of this restaurant, at first silently praying for our country, holding a lit candle.  Spontaneously, we started singing "God Bless America" with tears running down our cheeks.

This was just a working class neighborhood, ordinary, but to me it represented what our country is and who it is.  Quite a sight seeing these big guys holding a candle and weeping for the love of their country.  Even now, it raises the hair on my arms, sends a chill down my spine and a tear (or more) to my eyes.

So "Happy Birthday America" and may God continue to bless.

Are you satisfied with Bernie Madoff's sentence of 150 years in prison?

and further…………………..Bernie, because of the extent of his crime, will probably not be going to the one of the "country club" federal prisons, but will probably be doing hard time in a hard penitentiary.  Bernie will not do well.

Are you satisfied with Bernie Madoff's sentence of 150 years in prison?

Not just the Madoff family members, but a whole slew of people are busily scurrying around now and covering their tracks while the rest of us try to eke out a few bucks for a couple of days at the beach with the kids.  Of course they still have money even if it’s in the back yard buried in jars.

And whether they knew the extent or the amounts, at some level they knew.

The Death of an Icon

Poor Ryan O’Neal got pushed right off the front page —  trying for months to sell the death of that poor woman.

Michael Jackson, while shocking, was such a train wreck that it was almost expected.

Are you satisfied with Bernie Madoff's sentence of 150 years in prison?

Poor "Clueless" Ruth, who by the way is crying herself to sleep every night and it just breaks Bernie’s heart, is left with "just" 2.5 mil — what will she do?  What will she do?

This, of course, is so far-reaching…the checks and balances that are supposed to be in place somehow just……well, weren’t.  The fallout for this could and should affect so many people and many of those in very high places.

Are you satisfied with Bernie Madoff's sentence of 150 years in prison?

NP, I do agree; what about the ceo’s — hang Bernie in effigy for them?  Bernie’s cronies as well; lots of people were involved, not just his family…..and oh by the way, Ruth didn’t know?  Puleeeze.  And they all knew on some level that people were getting screwed.
