Life in the Little Lane: Edith Ann on Friend Refills

Edith Ann, this is not a problem you should have. Just reach out to be a friend and you will be innundated with so many people who will love you and want to be with you. We all have to remember ‘it’s not about us’ and really work at seeing who the person standing in front of you really is. Hey, it’s not a bad idea to walk away from people who insist on being negative and draining all the life out of anyone who is foolish enough to get near them. My friends are all precious to me……different flowers in a garden of love and appreciation.

What are the three dumbest things you spend money on?

I couldn’t resist answering this. I’m a foodie who has swooned eating at the French Laundry. Even though I barely have time to cook anymore, memories of baking bread, fancy deserts & complicated meals still drift thru my cranium. I’m constantly buying jars of who know what at Whole Foods or any gourmet shop. I just love looking at them on the shelves……all those beautiful preserves, different seasonings………anything in a beautiful jar and we won’t even go into the numerous bottles of olive oil on the counter even though I know the wisdom is to buy one at a time because they quickly spoil. I’m an artist who teaches Chinese Brush painting and also have a line of greeting cards so you can guess my next foolish addiction. I’ve never seen a brush I didn’t want or a mood seal or chop that didn’t call out to me.

Which four women would you like to see on Mt. Rushmore?

Just as a lark I posed the question to my husband and looking at me he said, “To get away from them?” What a great spontaneous answer. I’m stumped as Mt. Rushmore is a place in time showing four great presidents not necessarily the four most important men in our history, I would rather see something like the Statue of Liberty with it’s great statement. A monument that would represent all women who have been able to rise above themselves and their own issues and leave our world better for their having been here. I noticed Rosa Parks is on almost everyone’s list and she would be on mine, ditto Eleanor Roosevelt but then think of all the countless women…….I have always admired Joan Ganz Cooney and of course her husband Pete Peterson for his sanity in our economic meltdown. Let’s finally get to the place where we truly are all equal and not because we’re a man or woman.

Diane von Furstenberg: 'Fear is Not an Option'

Congratulations on a much needed great site! I’m a huge fan of Diane von Furstenberg and enjoyed the interview with her …….however, you can’t call her”an immigrant garment worker herself”. That’s really stretching it and taking all the true meaning out of that phrase. Please let’s be real. Nan Rae
