What lasting effect did the murder of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. have on this country?

I think the lasting effects are two fold, first that no matter how well educated the whites of the south became, that part of the country was and still is rooted in racism. Secondly, no one person is immune to a violent crime regardless of their stature or protection. There is still black on black crime etc. While Dr. King wanted to bring us all forward, I feel we always are taking one or two steps back.

MY DAD. I WAS THE ONLY GIRL, THE FIRST BORN IN A FAMILY OF FOUR WITH 3 BROTHERS. MY MOM GRAVITATED TO HER “MY THREE SONS”. MY DAD TOLD ME THE WORLD IS MY OYSTER AND THAT DOORS WOULD OPEN UP FOR ME. HE WAS RIGHT. I MISS HIM STILL AFTER HIS DEMISE 11 YEARS AGO. I HAVE A CORDIAL RELATIONSHIP WITH MY MOTHER, WHO IS FIERCLY INDEPENDENT.

DURING THE WEEK, I EITHER WATCH THE EARLY SHOW OR GOOD DAY NEW YORK, AND THEN ON LINE FOR ANY BREAKING NEWS. I HAVE THE LUXURY OF READING NYTIMES AND NEWSDAY ON THE WEEKEND, WHICH I SO LOOK FORWARD TO ON A SUNDAY MORNING.

I WAS ALWAYS THIN, UNTIL I WENT THROUGH MY CHANGES WHICH ENDED WHEN I WAS 44. I GAINED 30 POUNDS. I NEVER WOULD DO SURGERY OR BOTOX, ETC. I JUST TRY TO EAT HEALTHY AND WATCH MY PORTIONS. IM COMFORTABLE IN MY OWN SKIN. IF I NO LONGER RESEMBLE THE MERMAID ON THE ROCK, ITS OKAY WITH ME.
