Are the Olympics a blessing or a curse for human rights in China?

I’m in total agreement with you! It will take far more that the Olympics for China to properly debut at its ‘coming-out’ party. It’s just another backward, oppressive, albeit, over-populated nation trying to catch up. Doesn’t work.

What in your life has surprised you the most?

Finding someone at a time (mid-life) when I was fully prepared to be alone … who, after 15 years, still makes me laugh.

What is real, authentic, true and genuine in your life and why?

Could not have been expressed with more eloquence and simplicity!

What adage do you live your life by?

Two things: Pay it forward - every chance I get and Count my blessings - evey day!

What is your favorite book of this summer thus far? Why?

My husband and I saw the TV piece on Randy Pausch … what a gifted and amazing man - We were in awe of him!! Took our breath away!! He’s got to be looking down on his children and wife, his students and colleagues, with a big smile and urging them forward.

What is your favorite book of this summer thus far? Why?

Not a new book, but very enjoyable: REBELS OF IRELAND. Terrific historical fiction, very well written, especially if you like history. Characters are fictional, history is real. It got me back into reading again.

Some argue the oil crunch is a blessing in disguise that will compel us to embrace energy alternatives. Agree or disagree?

Essentially, I think it is a huge conspiracy by foreign powers to undermine our economy, to cripple us, and to divert resources. Also, the oil companies’ greed is beyond description. For instance, in Colorado, they have halted making asphalt because there is sooooo much money in diesel fuel, so they are making diesel fuel! The politicians won’t touch the oil crunch issue - why? They are our elected representatives. Yet, few really speak for the common man who is straddled between fuel for transportation or heat and food for his/her family. They seem to sit there with their thumbs up unmentionable places. On the other hand, this may also force us to look toward energy alternatives - which is good. It’s just that we’re not doing out of a sense of caring for and saving our earth. We’re being forced into it. That is not good!

What does being a woman mean to you? When was the first time you knew it?

Being a woman means that I am a person with a lot of inner resilience. I have overcome and risen above, and I know that I am blessed. I didn’t fully realize that I was grown up til someone called me “Ma’am” when I was in my 30’s. Then I knew I wasn’t a kid anymore.
