Do you attend organized religious or spiritual services?
The past does predict the future and I, too, find "The End of Faith" by Sam Harris a timely focus on the irrationality of religious faith.
"His expose of faith-based unreason-from the religious fanaticism of Islamic suicide bombers to the secular fanaticism of Noarm Chomsky-is a clarion call for reasoned debate in this age of terrorism." Alan Dershowitz, professor of law at Harvard University

Do you believe in God?
Do you believe in God?
I have appreciated this question of the day as Easter approaches and read with interest all of your views on this subject. And, I have respect for everyone’s point of view as it is such a personal thing. As the old saying goes "never bring up God or politics in polite company", but we seem to always manage.
Growing up in the south, church, God, hellfire and damnation were the order of the day. I was conflicted and just couldn’t believe what my mind was thinking vs what my eyes were seeing. I was always a free spirit but it was not until college and I had gained a certain maturity and level of confidence that I could focus my thoughts and beliefs into what might be concidered a cognizant whole.
I was very touched this morning by a quote offered by Ms. Doyle Pepe from the poet and essayist, Steven Weinberg, as it states beautifully the way I feel and, I think, bears repeating:
Living without God isn’t easy. But its very difficultly offers one other consulation—-that there is a certain honor, or perhaps just a grim satisfaction, in facing up to our condition without despair and without wishful thinking—-with good humor, but without God.
Are you sick and tired of the economic news? Does it dampen your day and spirits? Have you stopped listening/reading about it?
