Maurine - Liza has not only captured the feelings of most Americans with this great cartoon… I bet it’s the feeling all over the world, you just don’t want to watch the news anymore. I stopped long ago. I have my daily newspaper, what I don’t want to read I don’t! I don’t know if the news have reached you - the day before yesterday a guy in Finland went to his school (a vocational school) carrying a gun. He shot and killed ten people before killing himself. The same thing happened a year ago too, also in Finland. It’s getting to be too scary; once you’re in your home after work, you simply don’t get out the door until the next day. And my homwtown is being labelled as the 1930’s-Chicago of Sweden….

Hey - nothing wrong with a Swedish shell! ;-) Although.. I almost “resent” that my passport says “Sweden” (if it hadn’t expired in ‘95) - I’m from Skåne (Scania) and that’s something much better! All the best things of Sweden comes from our neck of the woods… Actresses, actors, athletes, the “older-day-politicians”, comedians - the list goes on and on. So Candice - you be proud of your Swedish shell - everyone could use one from time to time!

Actually - any job outside politics. Too many politicians have only “worked” in politics, not been out in the real world. At least that’s the case in my town and Sweden as a whole.

Thank you ALL for sharing your memories, it makes a Swede like me feel as if I’d been in the US that fateful day, instead of in Sweden. I remember coming home from work (had had one of the earlier shifts), turned on the TV - planned to watch Oprah - but I was a little early so I zapped through the channels. I never came longer than to the Danish channels - they were sending live (Swedish tv is often too ——- slow) and I never got any further; forget about Oprah, forget about dinner, forget about just about everything else. I, like so many others, was glued to the set… Remember thinking “It’s possible they can fix that”. Well, then the second plane hit - the shock, the disbelief, the sadness, jaw down to the floor. Then the towers went down - I cried out “those poor poor people, help them”. Yeah right, the best help they could’ve gotten would’ve been if someone, somewhere had taken the warnings seriously prior to 9-11, they’d still be alive today. Who knows what the world has missed out on??? Finally, Swedish tv awoke and all newsreports were filled with this, not to mention the papers the next day. I’ve saved some of them.For what? Well, it’s something I just wanted to do. As I went to work the next day, riding the local bus, I got so (trying HARD not to curse here) mad when overhearing this young guy saying, almost with a smile on his face, “they had it coming, serves them right” Need I say of what origin he was/is? I was so boiling mad (still am when thinking about it), I said nothing but I sure thought a lot…. A few years back, I got a little text from a friend. I read it and tried what it says in the end (have translated from Swedish, so please excuse any faults. Don’t know if you with Mac’s can try it). Now comes something even stranger: The most known symbol of the USA next to the Stars & Stripes, is the eagle: The following verse is taken from the koran: “For it is written that a son of Arabia would awaken a fearsome Eagle.
