Joan Juliet Buck Speaks to Peter Eyre About His New Role in 'Terre Haute'

Thanks Joan. This is the kind of thing I come to your website to see. Interesting pieces about what is going on. But wow oh wow…does this website have some looney tunes posting on it! I have to limit my intake here! I just read all the Coulter responses….or started to read them. Oy evay. I hope I don’t get shot and killed before I end this. Take care of yourself and best of luck with the sight. Was a great article and he’s a really wonderful insightful actor. OK bloggers go to it….FIRE AWAY!!!

Liz Smith: The Stellar World According to Gossip Pit Bull Perez Hilton – It Ain't Pretty, But It's All We Got

Hello people….this sight is not for promoting your own things….perhaps you would like to get a myspace page or a facebook page. The article was about Perez Hilton. Like it or not…..stick to the subject. John Travolta is on another sight and so is whatsit.com

Liz Smith: The Stellar World According to Gossip Pit Bull Perez Hilton – It Ain't Pretty, But It's All We Got

Well, he has become famous for being famous so it does make one wonder. I would however like to point out that these “people” who are now “famous” need to take a basic course in English. Speaking and writing. They all say me and ____ and write the way they speak. The bar is so low now I find it quite astonishing and really appalling that they are setting examples for the generation that will some day lead our country. I won’t ever read his book - I live in Lala land so I see it every day. But honestly, I do long for some “class” of the “old” days. I spent the holidays watching TMC and dvd’s because ALL of the movies out this year and the ones up for nomination are SOOO dark and depressing! One of my favorites this year I watched was Indiscreet with Ingrid Bergman and Cary Grant. Just great acting, great writing, wonderful sets, wonderful dialogue. Not too much drama, just enough to give it a twist. Ahhhh, the good old days!

Give Obama a Break

It is so funny to see you all say that asking for a persons qualifications to be President of the US is: 1. malicious/counterproductive/negative! 2. I have smoke coming out of my ears! 3. I don’t “like” him! - I NEVER said I didn’t “like” him! I ASKED what qualifies him to be president!!!! It’s unbelievable the assumptions and accusations flying about these posts! I simply said I do not think he is qualified. Geez people. Relax and while you are try to think of something this man has accomplished politically that qualifies him for president of this country!

Give Obama a Break

lol…..yes the blind leading the blind indeed!

Give Obama a Break

How do you know he has conducted himself with honesty and integrity!!! You don’t KNOW that. That is what you BELIEVE to be true! He keeps his cool….OH ok then well let’s elect anyone who can “keep their cool” to be President of the United States! He let you know what his plans are! Well that’s nice! So did my daughter the other night….maybe she should run for president. Still no facts! Nothing anywhere that shows any bill he has supported, nothing tangible ANYONE can say that he has done. Has it ever occurred to you that the reason he doesn’t say anthing or “keeps his cool” is because he doesn’t KNOW what to say?! Maybe - just maybe - someone advised him - when under pressure just don’t say anything. And people will think you are brilliant! Reminds me of a movie I saw once called Being There. The character was Chauncy Gardner. You should watch it! And I have to say I do love it when called to the task that you go back to those extremes again! I have no desire to see anyone with blood dripping out of their nose. I’m not making any snide comments! I’m simply asking “what has the man ever done!” And no one can answer. He kept his cool…..that’s one for the record books. What qualifies Barack Hussein Obama to be President of the United States?! Answer: He kept his cool and he let’s you know what his plans are!

Give Obama a Break

No DeBurca I’m afraid it is not smoke. I am not one bit angry about the election much to the contrary I like many other people feel that it spoke volumns that people were not going to vote for someone they thought was another G.W. You miss the point. Which is exactly my point! People seem to think that if you question this new man or if you point out any facts about him that you are: angry, racist, stupid, greedy…..please add to the list. This is simply not true. What I have said and will continue to say is that I believe it is quite scary that people seem to have lost sight of the fact that this man has no credentials whatsoever to be the President of the United States of America. No one seems to question anything about him. And that DeBurca is what makes this country great. Freedom of speech. Our ability to question. What I find quite frightening is that no one seems to be looking past the “person” who was quite frankly elected based on ALOT of bias. But as I said before if you say that you are called a racist, stupid, angry, right wing. And quite frankly I am none of those things. In regards to this election I am questioning a man who has been elected who has no qualifications!!! I notice that instead of giving me any accomplishments in response of course DeBurca you simply go right to insult! As all have been want to do when faced with the facts in this case. Perhaps the smoke is surrounding your thought bubble. In Hollywood they call it smoke and mirrors. Which I believe is exactly how the election of this person was run. Smoke and mirrors.

Give Obama a Break

Thank you for the laugh Phyllis. Capable and smart? How do you know he is capable? Capable of what? What do you base this statement on? Can you name ONE thing this man has ever done in his politcal career OTHER than be the first black man to be elected President? Please name just ONE THING. Any one on this blog. Please I’m all ears. One would of course hope that the man we put in the highest office in our country would have accomplished much more than that. I mean the man took THREE years off from his law practice to go help inner city kids and didn’t accomplish much there! But don’t let me be the one to rain on this parade! He is going to CHANGE our country! Put down in writing just ONE thing this man has done other than make Whoopi Goldberg feel like she is now a part of the fabric of this country. She and all the other people who have never bothered to vote before but did this election - dare I say - because the candidate was black. Hmmm…and you can breathe again? Wow those eight years must have been very hard on you if you could not even find your breath! If Bush had been responsible for me not being able to breathe I would have called an attorney and been in court by now! Well then add that to the list. Our new president elect is not only BRILLIANT, he can help you find your breath. When will this country EVER wake up and understand we have GOT to stop leaning left and leaning right and start getting TOGETHER amongst ourselves - so that we can BE the United States of America! It’s not about this man or that man and clearly given the way Hilary Clinton was treated by the media and the delegates it’s NEVER going to be about a woman! It’s about you and me. But if you ALL keep on keeping on about them and them and Bush and them - well then you are only adding fuel to a fire that is just about to burn our country up. You can blame G.W. all you want. But most of this country voted for him! And now, quite sadly, you all seem to want to blame one man for EVERYTHING that is wrong and exalt another man for all you HOPE to be. It is really and truly frightening how naive you all seem to be. But let’s not waste time on the facts here friends. Let’s get on with it. What in the world did you think of Michelle Obama’s dress! And can you believe that she is SO much like the second coming of Jackie Onassis! And oh, my goodness isn’t Barack Hussein Obama just the end all to end all! Isn’t he just the greatest human being on our planet! He is brilliant!! And oh, did I tell you what he did in the last three years? Hmm, I can’t think of it now but I bet before the next four years are up I’ll come up with something.

Give Obama a Break

Oh, wow o wow….when are you EVER going to stop talking about this man and his wife! OK he’s a saint, he is THE greatest man that ever, ever, ever dared walk the face of this planet. He is unbelievable. He is incredible. He is well, gosh I just cannot find enough words in the english language to say how brilliant he is. OK now can we get on with our lives please! I am sooooooo sick and tired of logging on to this website and seeing articles about this man and how great he is and how great his wife is and blah, blah, blah. A task force went out and interviewed hundreds of people who voted for this “brilliant” man. NONE of them could tell you which party was in control of congress! NONE of them knew who Nancy Pelosi was! NONE of them knew who Harry Reid is! NONE of them knew who Barney Frank is! NONE of them knew any FACTS about Obama or could name ONE thing he had accomplished in his THREE years as a Senator! I’m not sure they even know what state he represented as a Senator! But oh, dear, he is the savior to our country! He is the greatest thing to happen to our country since John F. Kennedy!!!!! He is choosing all of Clintons staff to work for him! Not an ounce of originality to be seen. But he is going to SAVE our country! Let’s see people in the next four years what this man does to save our country. I quite frankly am shocked at how we as a nation of people are so desparate we have hung our hopes and projected all our “dreams” on this man. It is really one of the most insane things I have ever witnessed. I have said it before and I will say it again. We are trillions of dollars in debt. I don’t care who you are or what color your skin is or how great your command of the english language is. NO ONE can get rid of that kind of debt in four years. Stop blaming Bush people, stop blaming “stupid greedy men”. I am so sick and tired of the left wing babble on this site and I am not even a Republican! Can’t you find something else to write about!

'Quantum of Solace' Spoiler, by Liz Smith (Video)

I am such a HUGE Judi Dench fan that she saved the movie for me. I have always loved James Bond movies. But I must say, I miss the sexy, seductive James Bond that has been traded in for all the violence and action paction of this film. This movie is more like the Transporter series than it is James Bond. I mean, talk about the cars! I don’t even remember them! They were going so fast and the entire film was like that! How could you possibly even make out what kind of car it was!!! I really like Daniel Craig - but I must say I left the theater a bit numb as I do when I see those “action thrillers”. I would love to see the “old” James Bond come back with the gadgets and the lady loves. I go to the movies to be entertained not to feel jittery and nervous and have every single one of my senses assaulted! You could hardly enjoy the beautiful locations for all the “action” scenes. Having said that Dame Judi Dench is beyond spectacular……she is such a fine actress even in a film like this….her star shines and made it worth the price of admission. What she can convey with just her eyes alone is amazing.

Cynthia McFadden Recalls Vitriolic Remarks Among John McCain Supporters Election Night

Dear citizens of the United States of America, I am indeed with Liz here and will add this: until each and every single one of you understands that the MESS our country is in has nothing to do with who we put into the white house to “save us”; we are never going to get anywhere! The mess we are in can and will ONLY be cleaned up by the people who got us into it in the first place: ourselves. Until EVERY single individual in this country starts reaching out to other people, starts SAVING money and paying off their debt, you could elect a chair to be President - and I hope you will all agree on the color - it isn’t going to change things. Watch the documentary IOU for starters. People - we are over 70 trillion dollars in debt as a country! This is not going to change in four years. But what can easily change in four years in every household in this country is how each of us buckles down and addresses our own individual responsibilities and liabilities in making this country great again. So now go fight amongst yourselves on that one! I’m sure you have plenty to say. Debt is not a color or a party or anything other than what it is….we collectively EVERY SINGLE ONE OF US have spent more than we make. And therefore my friends we are in debt and need to get out of it as quickly as we can. I’ll be the first to tell you that hope is great. We need hope, I suppose. What we need more than anything is discipline! And I didn’t hear that as a campaign rhetoric. We need to get back to the basics this great country was founded on and stop looking so pathetically like victims to the leader of this country to “save” us. WE ARE THE LEADERS OF THIS COUNTRY!

Whoopi Goldberg: We Have Finally Become Part of the Fabric of the United States of America

Nov. 5, 2008 Dear Brother John, You have no idea, really, of how profound this moment is for us. Us being the people of the Southern United States. You think you know, because you are thoughtful, and you have studied our history. But seeing you deliver the torch so many others before you carried, year after year, decade after decade, century after century, only to be struck down before igniting the flame of justice and of law, is almost more than the heart can bear. And yet, this observation is not intended to burden you, for you are of a different time, and, indeed, because of all the relay runners before you, North America is a different place. It is really only to say: Well done. We knew, through all the generations, that you were with us, in us, the best of the spirit of Africa and of the Americas. Knowing this, that you would actually appear, someday, was part of our strength. Seeing you take your rightful place, based solely on your wisdom, stamina and character, is a balm for the weary warriors of hope, previously only sung about. I would advise you to remember that you did not create the disaster that the world is experiencing, and you alone are not responsible for bringing the world back to balance. A primary responsibility that you do have, however, is to cultivate happiness in your own life. To make a schedule that permits sufficient time of rest and play with your gorgeous wife and lovely daughters. And so on. One gathers that your family is large. We are used to seeing men in the White House soon become juiceless and as white-haired as the building; we notice their wives and children looking strained and stressed. They soon have smiles so lacking in joy that they remind us of scissors. This is no way to lead. Nor does your family deserve this fate. One way of thinking about all this is: It is so bad now that there is no excuse not to relax. From your happy, relaxed state, you can model real success, which is all that so many people in the world really want. They may buy endless cars and houses and furs and gobble up all the attention and space they can manage, or barely manage, but this is because it is not yet clear to them that success is truly an inside job. That it is within the reach of almost everyone. I would further advise you not to take on other people’s enemies. Most damage that others do to us is out of fear, humiliation and pain. Those feelings occur in all of us, not just in those of us who profess a certain religious or racial devotion. We must learn actually not to have enemies, but only confused adversaries who are ourselves in disguise. It is understood by all that you are commander in chief of the United States and are sworn to protect our beloved country; this we understand, completely. However, as my mother used to say, quoting a Bible with which I often fought, “hate the sin, but love the sinner.” There must be no more crushing of whole communities, no more torture, no more dehumanizing as a means of ruling a people’s spirit. This has already happened to people of color, poor people, women, children. We see where this leads, where it has led. A good model of how to “work with the enemy” internally is presented by the Dalai Lama, in his endless caretaking of his soul as he confronts the Chinese government that invaded Tibet. Because, finally, it is the soul that must be preserved, if one is to remain a credible leader. All else might be lost; but when the soul dies, the connection to earth, to peoples, to animals, to rivers, to mountain ranges, purple and majestic, also dies. And your smile, with which we watch you do gracious battle with unjust characterizations, distortions and lies, is that expression of healthy self-worth, spirit and soul, that, kept happy and free and relaxed, can find an answering smile in all of us, lighting our way, and brightening the world. We are the ones we have been waiting for. In Peace and Joy, Alice Walker

Whoopi Goldberg: We Have Finally Become Part of the Fabric of the United States of America

It’s really unbelievable how so many people are jumping on the bandwagon of thinking this election PROVES we are not racist! Is that where we have been heading all these years! To prove something? Gee I thought we had a 73 trillion dolllar deficit we need to pay down like NOW….and gee I thought the presidency was about qualifications! I think Obama is a nice looking man, I think he speaks eloquently, and I am actually happy he has been elected. I think that if America bought this sales job then the rest of the world will. But regaining our nations respect! Well that my friends will have to come from US the people. When we start saving money and reinvesting it in our economy, when we stop spending more than we make, when we start owning up to the fact that as a country we have debted ourselves out of the picture. When countries OWE more than they produce….i.e. we owe, we owe China owns us…..then we are sunk. NO matter what color skin the President has. Sadly Whoopi to make the comment that you are now a part of the “fabric” just makes me believe you are more of a racist than I will ever be or have ever been. What’s important to you is the color of your skin….your race, your people….YOU YOU YOU. We the public who have so lovingly embraced you as an entertainer….and now you tell me you have not been a part of the fabric of this country? Well perhaps you should make the rest of your lifes work about telling “your race” that to be a part of the fabric of this country that you should vote. And not just because the candidate is black. You should pay your taxes, you should vote, you should work and you should be proud of this country because dear Whoopi you are indeed and were way before this presidential nominee, a part of the fabric of this country. All one needs to do to be a “part of” is to participate.

Whoopi Goldberg: We Have Finally Become Part of the Fabric of the United States of America

Dearest Whoopi, I know for you and every single other African American who lives in this country yesterday was a great day. Why? Because an African American man was elected President of the United States of America. It was nice to hear you say something positive about John McCain. But I suppose you were only able to finally hear and see the man for who he truly is because you finally got what you had wished and hoped for. I believe your filter finally came off! I have read your blogs and I have listened to you on The View talk about how white people cannnot say the “n” word because we do not “own” it. You do. And I have listened to you talk about how white people do not have any right to put your race down because we were the people who owned slaves. Well Whoopi Goldberg here is what I have to say: back in the day when there were slaves (I myself have never been party to this nor have any of my relatives) it is an historical fact that the FIRST people who OWNED slaves were in fact African Americans! They were called blacks back then. And here is a quote from the time: The fact is large numbers of free Negroes owned black slaves; in fact, in numbers disproportionate to their representation in society at large. In 1860 only a small minority of whites owned slaves. According to the U.S. census report for that last year before the Civil War, there were nearly 27 million whites in the country. Some eight million of them lived in the slaveholding states. The census also determined that there were fewer than 385,000 individuals who owned slaves (1). Even if all slaveholders had been white, that would amount to only 1.4 percent of whites in the country (or 4.8 percent of southern whites owning one or more slaves). In the rare instances when the ownership of slaves by free Negroes is acknowledged in the history books, justification centers on the claim that black slave masters were simply individuals who purchased the freedom of a spouse or child from a white slaveholder and had been unable to legally manumit them. Although this did indeed happen at times, it is a misrepresentation of the majority of instances, one which is debunked by records of the period on blacks who owned slaves. These include individuals such as Justus Angel and Mistress L. Horry, of Colleton District, South Carolina, who each owned 84 slaves in 1830. In fact, in 1830 a fourth of the free Negro slave masters in South Carolina owned 10 or more slaves; eight owning 30 or more (2). According to federal census reports, on June 1, 1860 there were nearly 4.5 million Negroes in the United States, with fewer than four million of them living in the southern slaveholding states. Of the blacks residing in the South, 261,988 were not slaves. Of this number, 10,689 lived in New Orleans. The country’s leading African American historian, Duke University professor John Hope Franklin, records that in New Orleans over 3,000 free Negroes owned slaves, or 28 percent of the free Negroes in that city. It is sad to me that on a day when we should indeed be celebrating, sadly, the black community can only celebrate the fact that a new President has been elected because he is….well black. I listened to countless reports of people calling in to radio stations to say this is the first time they have ever voted in a Presidential election. They are African American. They are citizens of this country. But this is the first time they have voted? And the only reason why they voted is because the candidate was black. As much as I like the fact that America believes it has found “hope”, I am truly saddened and really in disbelief that we are so naive as a country and honestly, that a group of people have been themselves so prejudiced. You mean to tell me that all this time, there are hundreds and thousands of citizens living in this country that have never bothered to vote because they were racist? Can it be? Not to take the wind out of your sails Whoopi because you are right in there with Oprah. Two public figures who agree. The time has come. Well I think the time should have been ages ago when people took the filter off their lenses and started looking at people for who they are and not for the color of their skin. My only hope is that now that we have elected a President that you can be proud of - hopefully you can get off your soap box about racism and slavery and move on to something else. Because truth be told - and not just your truth Whoopi - there are many different versions of history. Not necessarily the one you seem to want to hold on to.
