need to say one more thing about bullies: what makes a bully? a child who is insecure who has feels he/she has no power and needs to assert themself in a way that makes themself powerful. Maybe we should pay some attention to the poor demented soul who is a bully… let’s not just try to banish that child…they bully for a reason…it will always end up being a losing proposition for them, but maybe before they create destruction on their way to no return we can capture them and help them? i do not believe “normal” people act in such a destructive way…they are crying for help…i abhor their actions…but maybe punishment is not the answer…at the same time, save the children who are at their mercy

bullying is not acceptable. and this should be the hue and cry of the school. i absolutely believe this is the role and under the authority of the school to provide an environment conducive to learning and while on their time to impart the right values. a child should feel safe at school. a school can be very aggressive in this regard if it has a philosophy that makes clear this is unacceptable. it has the power. are administrators afraid of these child bullies? get over it. from day one, from kindergarten and each year thereafter, a school needs to set the rules straight and tell kids what is unacceptable, what will not be tolerated, and what the repercussions will be. if they cannot have recess that is supervised then maybe there can be no recess. whole lives and personalities are set in motion at early ages and we need adults when we are vulnerable to appropriately protect us. how many of us have been damaged as adults have looked the other way? adults in positions of authority at schools have to take on the responsibility to not allow bullies to take over. in a profound way, most people who bully are sad examples of dysfunction…a normal child does not need to bully. maybe we should find a way to help those who are so incapacitated emotionally that they need to do so.

If we are going to cast aspersion on politicians who lie, let’s first look at George Bush whose lies have us in the crosshairs of an intractable war..where thousands of our citizens have been killed…and for what? i would give up my citizenship and leave this country before i would let my children fight this unholy war. I support the Americans who are doing their duty but damn and condemn those who have sent them to a place where they would not send their own…nor for one reason or another serve their country in the military either. Let’s look at the totality of Reverend Wright and not snippets and soundbites. I find him less objectionable than most because he does speak much truth! and this is spoken from a middle-aged white woman. And I defy anyone to doubt my patriotism and love of this country. How do you rationalize “good” Christians with treating other souls as chattel? Although I am not personally responsible for this, the reprehensible behavior does have effects that reverberate. And if you listen carefully to Rev. Wright he tells his congregation to move forward and not use this as an excuse. That seems to get lost in the discourse. And yes, of course. Rich white men control the world. What is so awful a statement as that? It is truth. Not every rich white man is bad. But let’s face the facts: look what rich white men have done to this world. They have thrown this world .. because whatever happens here affects the world …into an economic tailspin with their greed. This subprime crisis rests directly on their shoulders. . and this is only one small example of how they move and shake the world. And our “hands off” government is bailing out all these rich white men…are they bailing out any of the rank and file citizens who took risks as well and are facing foreclosure on their homes? There is something emphatically wrong with this. And if you think your government has not done evil things rationalizing national security, etc. has not read a paper, book or have any sense of how things have worked in this world. People have been drugged and experimented on by our government without their knowledge for “national security” reasons, etc., ad nauseum… And yes, I believe our government’s foreign policies brought Sept. 11 to reality. Don’t misinterpret this as an excuse for horrific and unforgivable acts. However, our government has done heinous things as well..we inject ourselves in places we have no business being. We (the CIA) put the Shah of Iran into power and deposed him when it was thought it would be better for us…we disenfranchise and antagonize whole populations of people and expect no repercussion? And though no one might want to admit it, I must be honest in that I am more afraid of the black man walking towards me on the street than the white one. I am ashamed to say this, but it is true and I do not think this is an atypical response. So let’s put it out there and talk about it. Obama has brought all to the fore and I applaud him. He believes in empowerment for all. He is the only one who has the chutzpah to speak the truth as I have never heard a politician do so. Let’s face it: the quid pro quo in politics and government have failed miserably. We need someone who approaches things differently. We need some honesty and someone who has the audacity to talk to us as adults, not people who need to be pandered to…any politician who says they will lower our taxes? respond like an adult: this is BS! they say it because they think you will believe it and vote for them. we do need a change. and he is the person. he is not jeremiah wright. he is his own person and he has integrity, intelligence and wisdom.
