Gee Doc, who screwed you over?

I have experienced discrimination, sexual and racial. I am a 51 year old Mexican-American woman born and raised in Los Angeles, CA. When I was young I was very pretty and very naive. I had plenty of dirty old men make passes at me and make filthy suggestive remarks that caused me to blush and feel very ashamed of myself. As a Mexican-American I was treated no less than a servant in the workplace. I was the ONLY person in the office who wasn’t caucasion. Everyday I was sent by my supervisor to go buy her lunch. This was a woman who would then chastise me for not completing my work on time! Once, I actually had the nerve to tell her no but she “gave me permission” to leave my work, handed me her money, gave me her order and off I went. Long story short I had to go back to the hamburger stand for her food three times because she kept changing her order. Yes … I totally know discrimination. This was back in the days where there was no recourse for this type of abuse. I’d like to ask the good doctor (who thinks that it is easier for women to get into medical school) what he’d tell his daughter (if he had one) about the world out there. It is because women like myself and the many others who were victimized in the workplace that laws were changed and until you’ve been on the receiving end of that type of harassment you have no idea what you are talking about.

Please … if that’s how you feel now, imagine how you would have felt as a woman in the workplace 30 years ago!

I believe that we continue to exist. Our soul, our consciousness moves on to another plane, another dimension. I believe in an afterlife but I think it will be very different from what we’ve been taught. I think it will be more like we will become able to understand of ourselves, our life on earth and what our purpose was. When we pass over to the next life we will continue to exist and grow and I believe we will meet our Creator. I’ve read many, many books on people who have had a near death experience and it all sounds wonderful. The cares and worries of this world no longer exist and we are our truest selves in a place of perfection.

When I was a cheerleader in high school a bunch of rode to the beach in the back of a truck with a camper shell. We were flirting with some guys in another truck and while on the freeway going 70 mph they passed us a six pack of beer. I actually leaned out of the cab and grabbed it! To this day I shudder whenever I think of this because it so DANGEROUS and so incredibly stupid. I am certain my guardian angel was protecting me that day.

I do remember being bored as a child but mostly on Sundays. When I was a little girl Sunday was when you went to church and then visited the grandparents. All the stores were closed. Does anyone remember that? Sunday was a day when everything was closed and was supposed to be spent with the family. But, I also remember having a very wonderful childhood filled with neighborhood kids and games that we would make up. It was great. And yes, you came home when the streetlights came on. We had our bicycles, or water guns, we played tag, hide and seek. It was great. Nowadays kids don’t get outside, they don’t run or play or have any imaginations whatsoever. I think it is sad. I was also a big reader, even as a child. Always had my nose in a book. I think technology is great but it has greatly diminished the joy of being a child. Interacting with neighborhood kids, problem solving, etc. There is definitely something missing in childhood today and I think it is sad.

I don’t think men go to prostitutes because something is “wrong” in the marital bed. I think it is something deeper than that. I think it has more to do with power than sex. Talk to any prostitute and she will tell you that more than have her clientele are married men. What does that say for the wives of America? I just don’t buy it. Spitzer and men like him who are powerful and wealthy do what they do because they can. No other reason, and now he got caught. Lots of these egomaniacal men are quasi-sociopaths. They have no conscious so it’s easy for them to behave badly. They see themselves above the law.

Dr. Laura is living in some other era. Her audience are stay at home mommies who put their husbands on a pedestal and serve him in every way possible. Sorry - that isn’t my idea of marriage in the 21st Century. Spitzer did what he did because he could. His wife had nothing to do with it. He made the decision to pay big bucks to screw a very young girl. It’s not the wife’s fault nor the prostitute’s fault. It’s HIS fault. He is a hypocritical egomaniac. Bottom line, for powerful men getting a prostitute is like masturbation for rich people. End of story. Silda should leave him, she probably won’t and that is her choice. I’d pay big bucks to watch him explain to his three daughters why he did what he did to their mother and to them by humiliating them all with this stupid act.

Since the answer to this question is purely fantasy, I would LOVE to be in the dark for one hour with my fantasy boyfriend, Viggo Mortensen. I absolutely adore him! Hunky and beautiful, sensitive and deep.

Another reason I believe women should run the world. A woman would never humiliate her family or her self over sex. We’re wired differently. Men can’t keep it in their pants, especially powerful men. I just believe that women inately have more strength and more character than most men. As for Silda, it really is her decision to make and I wouldn’t want to be in her shoes. It just seems such a shame for such an elegant woman to be humiliated this way, though I’d love to see Spitzer explaining to his three daughters why he felt the need to see a prostitute.

I find that most of these right wing religious zealots are very quick to forgive their own and extremely intolerant about forgiving anyone else that does not see things their way. I thought Obama’s speech was beautiful, eloquent and very truthful. I am a 51 year old Hispanic woman who was born and raised in this country, as were my parents and my grandparents. Race is an issue in this country, always has been and probably always will be, but hopefully not to the degree it has been in the past. One must remember that African American’s have a deeply painful history. Lynchings and owning slaves was not that long ago. Many white men and women, have, in fact, treated Americans of different colors and religious persuasions with horrible cruelty but we have also made great strides in overcoming this terrible legacy. We have a man of mixed race who is running for President and a woman as well! This would NEVER have happened fifty years ago. So, maybe in another fifty years we will have come even further than where we are today.
