I find this “view from the window” topic interesting…I moved last year from the house I lived in for 32 years and I think what I miss most is the view from the windows..I had 5.5 acres and looked out on field and mountains..in years past there were different animals in the field:our horses, steers, sheep, and,always, deer. I loved to watch the change of seasons, the snow in the winter, the green in the summer. I have only moved a few miles away, the house is a big improvement but the new view has required some adjustment…rather than open fields, its wooded..and between the trees you can see a lake. the deer are still present..and there is evidence of a bear! just a paw print so far! It has its own beauty. I will get used to it! This fall the lake was awesome, with the colorful trees reflected in the lake

well, they never listen to us! these women were incredibly prescient I had had some concerns for awhile but I am no financial expert..I find little things that seem omens….even to the “free checks” that come in my credit card statements..I shred them!

I am happy today…for you,for all of us…and happy for the historic moment that has changed our lives, we woke up to a new world today. And the world is happy, I have already heard from friends in Germany and ElSalvador with their joyous reactions I WAS a child of the 60’s and do remember the struggle. Obama has renewed my sense of idealism. He has a lot of work ahead of him and he will need all of us to help. About McCain, his speech last night was the man I used to respect. If that man had been the one campaigning, today’s story might be different Obama encourages us to be our better selves, to take the high road. My #1 rule for my own kids and my students was “Be nice” because nice matters. Let’s hope the network created during the campaign contines so that we can all contribute

I think, Whoopi, you are just going to have to live with being “articulate”…because you are…with no hidden meanings, no hidden bias..just take it as a compliment, say thanks and move on. I too have followed your career and especially enjoy you on the View. To say you are articulate really does not cover it all , because when you speak it also includes your knowledge, experience, compassion and your peace-keeping abilities. oh…I forgot your sense of humor…LOL…perhaps too obvious we gotta laugh!! for some reason I am remembering the words of Antoine de St Exupery in “the Little Prince” “words are the source of misunderstanding, it is only with the heart that one can see rightly” And you, my dear, have heart!!

I grew up in a lower middle income household, we had the basics, not much more. I remember my mother telling me about the years we only had $8 in the bank. This was the 50’s and 60’s! My parents grew up during the depression, they made the best of what they had. I remember a story my mom had about losing a nickel which meant so much to her then. I went to college on a scholarship and loans, became the first female on either side of the family to graduate from college. And I have always worked, since I was 14. I am certainly scared about the current economic crisis but we are all in this together. We need to work together, on all levels

emcye, a little late here, but a wonderful article..Europe seems concerned about this “anti-intellectual” candidate, I was reading an opinion piece online in Spain’s El Pais along the same lines I wish more people here were as concerned and I “bet ya dollars to donuts”, Palin would not even know the word “quotidian”

I could not agree more..what you have said here is very important…when they talk about experience..well, not all experience is good (why is no one talking about McCain and the Keating 5 scandal..certainly relevant in view of the banking crisis) Phil Gramm could be called the architect of this current mortgage/wall st crisis with his deregulation. Frankly it scares me that McCain/Palin could win,,to me it seems many people are not smart enough to see it I can always count on you for an intelligent perspective!
