I have never contributed to a political campaign before this year..and I have made a number of (small) contributions to Obama. Why? Because I have never before felt it was as important as I feel it is now. I was subbing in a journalism class..they were comparing Palin speeches..I got to tell them a bit more about McCain and his contradictions…gave them some sites to check….and I told them…if you are 18 or have friends who are..register to vote!

Yes, Whoopi..they would have treated Chelsea Clinton differently..and they would treat this situation differently if it were Obama’s daughter. We have come a long way in this country in terms of equality, racial issues, acceptance..but we are still far from perfect. I have used this before: now that we can trace DNA , they have traced us ALL back to one women in Africa…one of my students wisecracked: “Does that mean we are all black?” I said, “yes, some of us are just lighter than others” I worked for over 30 years in a rural school district, there was a high percentage of poor students:white, black, Latino. Let me tell you, I learned a lot! And the bottomline is: treat everyone with respect, expect the best, you ususally get it. My #1 rule? “Be nice” That said..I almost felt a little guilty about enjoying “Caribou Barbie” remarks. Then I remembered: she started it! She relished her nickname of “barracuda” (see news about the Rock band “Heart” asking her to stop using their song”Barracuda”)and she was incredibly mean and condescending at the convention..She had it coming. And I don’t like her voice either..LOL

I agree with you Anna…her refusal to look at even the POSSIBILITY of accepting someone else’s view point..but I chalk a lot of it up to her being young…just wait until she has more life experience..she does seem closed-minded now

Maurine, very well said….I just heard she finally spoke and made her first faux pas..not understanding the crisis of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac…thinking it WAS costing the taxpayer..no NOW it will cost the taxpayer…and how did we get there? Thank McCain’s former economic advisor Gramm and his deregulation…. and..she had the name “Sarah Barracuda ” from HS and seems to revel in it
