Liz Smith: 3 Ways to Get a Raise

Oh my goodness, I do understand grammar….

Thank you Ms. Smith for your valuable insight.  Would the editors please pose this question to some of the other ladies of wowOwow, such as, Ms. Cooney, Ms. Nevins, Ms. Buck, Ms. Noonan, and Ms. Reed?

Thank you.

Candice Bergen on What Destroyed Our Attention Spans

Multi-tasking is a complete misnomer.  Besides if something is worth doing shouldn’t we be giving it our full attention? Studies have shown that society is more productive when we are focused and not trying to do too many things at once.

Chloe Malle, 23: How to Begin Beginning?

You are loved and respected by your family and things will work out.  Just keep doing the next right thing.  Good Luck. I enjoyed your essay. Go easy on Fran and the Botswana thing - she probably had 2 people trying to talk with her, another person on hold, and her boss waiting for something….all while she was trying to help you.

Candice Bergen: An Alternative Punishment for Roman Polanski

Garbarge? Human beings are NOT garbarge.  But you make a good point - he must be in her social circle.

Actually Karen R, OJ is in prison.  He was also convicted of the murder in Civil Court.

Candice Bergen: An Alternative Punishment for Roman Polanski

Excellent point.  How WOULD Candace feel if this were HER daughter?

Candice Bergen: An Alternative Punishment for Roman Polanski

Okay, so let me get this straight…because he is "...a brilliant, gifted artist. He is a father. And he is 75." he should be given a pass?  Is that what you are saying here?  Hmmm brings to mind what people said about Woody.  I wonder what would have happened if  OJ was considered a brilliant artist.  No murder happened here but it was a crime.  Does his "artistic brilliance" negate a crime against a child?

Joan Juliet Buck Is Having One Busy Summer

Dear Ms. Buck,

Here is information about a CSA which delivers fruits and vegetables to the 92nd Street Y. We have received currants in recent weeks and they have been delish. Here is a link http://www.92y.org/content/community_supported_agriculture.asp. It is surprising none can be found at the 14th Street/Union Square Market (I am sure you looked there). I hope this email provides a lead for you. Perhaps Stoneledge Farms (see above link) also provides fruit to some of the markets in Manhattan.

Best,
Kate

How My Decision About a Late-Term Abortion Affected My Marriage, by Alice Eve Cohen

Dear Messy One,

Men do have rights.  If a woman and man choose to be intimate than the TWO of them are involved in any outcome. I don’t think we are really in danger of men forcing women to carry to term.  In the United States we are a long way from women being treated ast chattel.

The extreme behavior you refer to here (i.e., slavery, sacred sperm…) is certainly not the norm in the USA.

Best, Kate

Is there ever really a good reason? Would one really let go of a baby because it was "defective?"

What do you think of Scientology?

Sounds like something similar to EST - anybody remember them?

America Better Get Used To Sharing Power With Asia, by Vishakha N. Desai

Yes, domestic issues ARE , ever increasing, international issues…the two are almost becoming one and the same. But it would be easier to support China if they did not take so many “short-cuts.” The following problems are only a few coming from China: counterfeit drugs (one national pharmacy chain has taken steps to reduce the problem), tainted dog food (happen on 2 different occasions), tainted toys and these are just the issues I know about. I understand there is a different culture at work but according to Foreign Affairs magazine (Feb. ‘08) they keep asking the West for more time to change but don’t seem to making much of an effort. Most of the Chinese people I have met look down upon Americans as dumb and fat. Granted, one can get that impression from Europeans too but they tend to complain mostly about whoever is in office. I understand that we have to do business with China. I don’t know how to get the message across to our government and theirs that the items listed above are not acceptable. But yes, we must work with them.
