I’ve been flying like forever, even was a stewardess -and trained as such in one of my former lives, but hated the job & quit soon thereafter-, been in a couple of near misses & still love flying with a passion. I think is wise to get your bearings inside the aircraft/pay attention to all instructions & also keep your own counsel, hopefully based in common sense……..

Mommy dearest you got it right, there is no way whatsoever to “fix” Afghanistan. That’s not a country or a nation, according to our western concepts. They are just a bunch of tribes in a permanent state of war, friends today/foes tomorrow. Impossible to understand from our point of view. An Afgani in exile,-I met him in Paris years ago- told me: the point is we are the crossroads of the world, we have known this for centuries & we are not going to give up, the price would be too steep for any “ferengi” (foreigner) to pay. The brits & the ruskis misunderstood the signs in centuries past & the results were terrifying……..

How are feeling after yr south american experience???? More rested, I hope. Yes, Mme de la Fressange is one very lucky lady.Her mom was argentine -a one time model in Paris-, from a traditional family in the center of the Argentina. Oh Joan, you are so right!! I was watching the Inauguration while having a lunch at home, all present were music knowledgeable & we were watching sort of transfixed that performance in glacial conditions & wondering how on earth they could get that perfect sound in that freezing temperature. It didn’t sound pre-recorded at the moment & all of us were suffering just thinking how bad it was for the strings……..

I thank all of you today. You made my day. It’s been a horrible week, bad news,illness/death all around me. I am so sad but your words gave me back my smile.

Now that you make me think of it, I see that I simply don’t panic!!! When something horrible happens to me, some part of my mind takes over & a glacial calm descends upon me & I just do what I have to do to solve the situation. I’ve taken very bad horse falls. I actually saved people lives -both my parents included- but it was only after it happened that I realized how scary it had been. Sometimes I say I’ve got a mighty powerful Guardian Angel!!!!
