Whoopi Weighs in on Sarah Palin and Reader Comments on Her Obama Post!

With a mother-in-law like this, who needs enemies? Quote from Fay Palin, Governor Palin’s mil: “Faye Palin said the entire family was shocked by the news of Sarah Palin on Friday. “We don’t agree on everything. But I respect her passion,” she said. “Being pro-life is who Sarah is.” “I’m not sure what she brings to the ticket other than she’s a woman and a conservative. Well, she’s a better speaker than McCain,” Faye Palin said with a laugh. “People will say she hasn’t been on the national scene long enough. But I believe she’s a quick study.” What does Faye think about Barack Obama? Faye Palin admitted she enjoys hearing Barack Obama speak, and still hasn’t decided which way she’ll vote.”

Saying Sarah Palin has been in public office for 12 years and therefore has experience to serve as Vice President and most likely President of this country is like comparing me to Steve Jobs or Bill Gates. I started and have successfully run a business for 22+ years, but being the CEO of my small business just doesn’t put me in the same universe with them. My support for Barack Obama has absolutely nothing to do with the colour of his skin. Let’s be cautious about bringing up college grades. I don’t recall GWB being a stellar or even adequate student, unless we’re talking about partying 101-401. At this point, it’s about damn time that corporations start getting taxed! There is a GAO report due out Tuesday that says that 2/3 of US corporations pay NO tax. I would love to do all of the research and give you the specific names of huge corporations that have a zero tax bill, but I want to watch the talking heads on tv this morning. Will get back on this later. As for them moving, why leave? Hey, they already pay no taxes here, yet get government incentives. Just wish my small company could manage a sweet deal like that.

Joan Ganz Cooney: The Choice of Palin Is Simply Irresponsible Updated 8/30, 2:06 PM

“He who laughs last, laughs best.” This is very serious for all of us, and I just hope we can put the finger pointing, bashing, nah-nah-nah stuff away now and get real. Our country and the world is in such peril that this election/selection will make us or break us. I will vote for Barack Obama and Joe Biden, and fear that the tears won’t be tears borne of laughter if Senator McCain and Governor Palin are elected.

Dana, just gather your friends and move to Texas. After all, we can secede. ; )

Good morning to you, too, Fariba. 1. I don’t believe I have claimed any political affiliation on this or the one other thread you have posted a total of eight comments on, so maybe just maybe you are imagining. 2. Never did I use the word conspiracy…you did. 3. If you read all of the posts, you will find that there are women on both sides of this issue on this thread, and it is not simply “an all-Democratic hate fest”. 4. Paranoid for stating a fact that a whole bevy of new people (note I didn’t say women, no matter what screen names were selected) showed up to praise Ms. Palin? Please! 5. If you had been at this soiree prior to today, you might see that many of us here are truly women who think for ourselves. Bless your heart, I do hope you have a calm morning, as it seems you had a stressful night. If questioning Governor Palin riles you up so much, I’d say you are in for a tough couple of months. Peace

I’m fascinated at how many have signed up on this site today in order to post about Ms. Palin. Hmmmmm…wonder who stirred the nest and posted the link to this site to get all of the pro-Palin posts? Just look at how many new posters have joined us today and have *only* contributed to the McCain selection for VP. Damn, Karl has been a busy boy. I can’t WAIT to watch the return of Bill Maher tonight!

Who is the most famous person you've ever met? What were the circumstances?

I own a custom frame shop and art gallery, and got a rather cryptic call one afternoon asking if it would be possible to frame something special very quickly. I was happy to comply, and said that they should come right over. The reply was that the art would be overnighted to me, and I should call a certain telephone number the next day when it arrived. Next day a package arrived, and I opened it quickly. Imagine my surprise to find an autographed poster from Mr. Rogers of Mr. Rogers Neighborhood signed to Rildia Bee. I telephoned as asked, and was told that I should select something rather elegant, and phone back when ready. Hmmmmm…poster of Mr. Rogers and elegant? Ok. The following day, someone arrived to retrieve the package and pay for it, and brought beautiful wrapping paper and asked if I could assist in wrapping. A week later, I was stunned to look out the front of my shop to see a huge black Cadillac arrive, and Van Cliburn unfold and unfold and unfold from the front seat. I was even *more* stunned when he opened the door and entered my shop. He walked over to me, offered *the* softest and the LARGEST hand I had ever seen, and introduced himself! He came in to say a personal thank you for framing his mother’s birthday gift from her dear friend Mr. Rogers. She loved it and he appreciated how quickly we got it ready. He stayed for a while, thanked me again, and asked if my husband and I would be his guest at the reception following the final of the Van Cliburn Piano competition coming up in about six months. He asked for my address, and was off. True to his word, a beautiful invitation arrived for the reception, along with tickets for the final medal presentation and performance. At the crowded reception, he spotted us across the room, and came over to greet and called us by name! What a true gentleman. I am pretty crazy about my friend Betty Buckley, too. She has a huge heart for animals and the funniest bird in the world. There have been many others, but these are special.

Who is the most famous person you've ever met? What were the circumstances?

It is exactly that real. It is best described as a feeling of electricity that is suddenly in the air. I have had the pleasure of being in a room when Bill & Hillary Clinton entered. He came in first, and she followed by a few minutes. Never before or since have I actually *felt* a presence like his. You’ve almost got to feel it to believe it.

Where do you get your health insurance?

My husband and I are self employed and therefore purchase our own health insurance. Each year the premiums go up and each year we raise our deductibles to try and keep things manageable. Those of you that have health insurance partially provided by your employer should give thanks every day! It costs the two of us $18,000 a year for insurance! He has a stent and I am amazingly healthy! We provided health insurance for out employees as long as possible, but that is no longer an option.

It's the Visuals, Stupid

Omigod, that is hysterical. Bet they’ll laugh when a 40-18 year old woman arrives at Planned Parenthood requesting 10 condoms!

What are your predictions for the Democratic and Republican conventions?

And I think the selection of Biden was brilliant. Biden brings the many years of experience that Obama is criticized for lacking. Biden is the complement with years of foreign policy involvement and has respect across the aisles and across the waters. Youth and experience will go hand in hand to offer a more complete package. As for Hillary Rodham Clinton, I do believe that before the election, maybe as early as at the convention, we will hear of plans for her place in the administration, a place that will allow her to be more effective than she would be as vice president.

What are your predictions for the Democratic and Republican conventions?

And I’m going to see them in concert in September. Might have to smuggle in a Bic lighter, you know.
