Now you have gone just too far.  It is clear she needs lots of help but saying she shares "features with the criminal mind" is outrageous.  It’s like Dr. Phil telling some parents that their kid is on the road to becoming a serial killer.

Not only is it outrageous but irresponsible.  Dr. Samenow’s "evaluation" is no better than Bill Frist’s "evaluation" of Terry Schiavo’s condition on videotape.

I hate to bust everyone’s happy bubble but Obama’s Cabinet is no “Team of Rivals.” As Liz and others have noted, the comparisons are overwrought. First of all, Doris Kearns Goodwin isn’t so much of an historian as she is a storyteller. Second, Lincoln’s real rivals had seceded from the Union and built their own army. They weren’t anywhere near his Cabinet. Like everything else about Obama, it’s a nice story that has little basis in reality.

This is an issue that the Democrats fumbled badly. The explanations were inadequate so now GOP talking points have ruled the day. Read carefully, people: The provision would preventative, cost-saving health care to help low-income women support their families and keep working. It focuses on access to recommended services and contraception to prevent unplanned pregnancies and promote maternal and infant health — not abortion. That is how family planning helps economic stimulus. It’s not pork. Here is the actual text from the stimulus package’s summary (HT Think Progress): “State Option to Cover Family Planning Services. Under current law, the Secretary has the authority under section 1115 of the Social Security Act to grant waivers to states to allow them to cover family planning services and supplies to low-income women who are not otherwise eligible for Medicaid. The bill would give states the option to provide such coverage without obtaining a waiver. States could continue to use the existing waiver authority if they preferred.” States can now cover low-income women if they get a state waiver, but approval can take a long time. This bill would simply allow states to skip the administrative delays.

Gak…what an ugly dress. It did look like she’d wrapped a bedspread around her. Even her dress for the inauguration was less than stellar. The gloves and shoes didn’t even coordinate with the dress. And it was too sparkly for daytime wear. A wool sheath with a matching overcoat would have been more appropriate for the occasion.

While that may be true, such infighting will do the party no favors. It’s called “loyal opposition.” Get used to it. As someone noted, “Democrats are supportive but not supine.” I live in VA too as Tim Kaine’s performance as governor has fallen far short of his potential. His response to the 2006 State of the Union just stank. Bill Howell, Republican speaker of the House of Delegates, has been able to scuttle Kaine’s agenda in 2008 with a 6 seat majority. If all he’s expected to do is some fundraising and be little more than carry Obama’s water on the Sunday talk shows, then he’ll do well.

I don’t think we need someone who made People Magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive cover as Surgeon General. Surely there are other, more qualified people to serve than a medical journalist. He may be a neurosurgeon but honestly, a primary care physician would have been a better choice. He’s been selected because he knows his way around a camera. Gupta also appears on a waiting room TV network called Accent Health, produced by CNN, which I’m sure offers drug companies the chance to boost sales of their products by putting them in front of a valuable and captive audience just before they discuss their health conditions with their doctor. That’s just as bad as direct to consumer advertising on regular TV. Pass on Gupta. Find someone more creditable than a hot-shot medical journalist.

I met Bishop Katharine recently when she visited our parish. She is exactly the right person for the Episcopal Church at this time “…the liberal gay’s want to shove their agenda down everyone else’s throat and hide behind their so called politicaly correct tag phrase’s.” Ah yes, Teh Diabolical Gayz. Let’s get something straight people: The conservatives who broke away from ECUSA claiming the Bible justified their actions are fooling themselves by pretending their bigotry is grounded in principle and not plain prejudice.

I’m always reminded of this quote by Molly Ivins: “I don’t so much mind that newspapers are dying — it’s watching them commit suicide that pisses me off.”

The criticism is misplaced here. Gov. Paterson is a public figure and therefore is as much a target for satire as Hillary Clinton or anyone else in the public eye. Taking a “hands off” approach because he is visually impaired is special treatment, which people with disabilities and their advocates ironically protest is exactly what they don’t want. He is a governor who happens to be visually impaired just as Hillary was a presidential candidate who happens to be female. Whether someone finds the sketch funny is YMMV. Humor is subjective.

It’s better gossip than analysis. What, exactly, is the case to be made for Caroline Kennedy? Her family connections? They myth of Camelot? If Caroline wants to be senator, let her run for it in the special election in 2010. Hillary Clinton visited every single county in NY and was outspent by her opponent. She won by a double digit margin. A campaign would allow Kennedy to prove her worth. Voters could take the measure of her as a potential leader, not as a celebrity. New York has plenty of experienced political women who’ve proved themselves. Caroline Kennedy isn’t one of them.

Obama said he’s saddened and sobered by the charges. No mention of being “shocked.”
