My Comments (1082 so far…)

What is your first memory – if any – of the presence of class difference in our society?

When I was in grammer school a girl was driven to school each day in a limo with a black chauffeur, who got out of the car & opened the door for her. I was amazed that I walked to school & had never seen nor heard of chauffeurs. Then on Sundays we went for a "ride". That’s what families in the 30s did for entertainment. We always had to go to Grand View Drive, where there were huge homes unlike any I had ever seen before. It was then I realized there were people who were way beyond what I was then.

Friday on 'The View'

I don’t always watch The View, as sleep late a lot of mornings, but days I am up always turn it on. If I don’t like it on a particular day I turn it off, but never reject it, as other days I enjoy it thoroughly. I don’t much like Elizabeth, but others love her, and that’s what makes the program interesting most of the time - the various opinions of the women. If they were all alike and all of the same opinion it would be very boring to watch. I’m sorry I missed it today, but was sleeping late again.

The Private and the Public: Finding Balance in a Life in the Spotlight

Looks to me like it was resurrected for the now.

Take Marcus Buckingham's Strong Life Test and Determine Your Happiness Quotient

I took this, but didn’t find it age relevant, so the questions/answers bypassed me, and I found I was more or less making up what I might do in the given situations. My generation didn’t work or have careers, so this was foreign to me. My given inexperienced answers seemed hollow as I answered in what I felt was the correct response, but what I might not ever do in reality.

Among women you know on Medicare, has the program worked well/been successful?

We have Medicare, which has been an excellent program for us, and being military we have TriCareForLife as our secondary. However, none of this will cover us for any long-term issues, so we also have Long Term Care insurance. We have had it since we were younger  and the premiums are high. It is something you hope you never have to use, but will cover us in case we get a debilitating illness & require  long term nursing home care. I’d hate to have to be placed on Medicaid & be warehoused in some substandard facility if that ever happened without this insurance protection.

Joan Ganz Cooney: Medicare Is Going to Bankrupt the Country

If you are not on Medicare then you are not qualfied to answer this question, as you have no idea of the positives re it.

Among women you know on Medicare, has the program worked well/been successful?

I’ve been on Medicare for 16 yrs. and am very happy with it, although I do not have Part D, which I found very strange when it was initiated with all the various programs vying to woo people to their "part D" program and friends confused as to which one to go with. I have had 2 major surgeries requiring hospitalizaton, and 7 outpatient surgeries, including cataract, joint replacement of arthritic thumbs, and 3 very lesser ones…..oh yes, Mohs surgery for skin ca under my eye too. The care received was excellent, as are my drs. I ran into a problem when my gyn retired trying to find a new one who accepted Medicare, and fear facing the same problem if any of my other drs. decided to do the same. I did find a great one, but this might be risky for a lot of us Seniors. My internist is talking about going into Concierge medicine, which could be cost prohibitive for a lot. Some of my friends opted out of Medicare, and the insurance plans they are using sound very strange…some even have gym membership as part of the program, along with tests ordered at varous labs/XRay facilities that they collectively own. They have been wooed, having insur. reps coming to their homes, extolling the virtues of their programs which sounds so suspect. My big worry now is that Medicare will be drastically reduced, changed, or dropped in favor of some lesser program.

wOw Reports: What News Matters to You – And Why?

Oh, MM, how can you take anything she says seriously? She is just another pretty face on FOX preaching their ‘fair and balanced" propaganda. Back in the dark ages when I was in school we didn’t have prayers. if you wanted prayer you went to a parochial school. School was for learning, Sunday School was for religious training. We said the Pledge of Allegiance every day before class started, and it was "one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all." Somewhere along the line "under God" was added, along with all the insisting of prayer in school.

I have had a total hysterectomy, but have problems that cannot be handled by my internist. He would have to refer me to a specialist anyway. I totally forgot, I also had 3 minor surgeries for this, also covered by Medicare. I had an Ultrasound last week by my Gyn who sent me to my Urologist for follow up. Seems I have developed cysts, and you think it’s all over once you age - sigh!

Margo Howard: The Origins of Obama Rage?

Oh, lordy, I was maried in Beaufort S. Carolina, and lived there after our son was born. Quite an experience for a Yankee girl from Illinois who lived in a city where  blacks lived in our neighborhoods & went to school with us, to live in the deep south, which I doubt has not changed a whole lot since then, if you listen to Wilson. I am amazed when  people say there is no racism and then  read the many signs for the "tea parties"  some of which are quite racist in nature. I have received so many very racist emails, so am conflicted over your non-racist comments. Today Steele called Pres. Carter ignorant, and Rush said Carter was a hemorrhoid on our country and there wasn’t a tube of Preperation H large enough to remove him. Nice respect from the far right concerning a former president, but he did say that this was all racist re Obama, so guess he deserved to be dissed. Margo is right, and you all can say what you want against her. She will still have her opinion and you cannot destroy her. You can have your opinions too, but nobody will try to destroy you, as you are not a person needing to be destroyed for having an opinion. Understand?

Liz Peek: The Inefficiencies of Medicare … Your Personal Stories Needed

I have no complaints about Medicare. I only have parts A & B, no drug coverage. It’s true, what they pay the drs. is sometimes low, but also sometimes the charge is too high for the service rendered. I pay for my own physicals and some lab tests. I have had 6 surgeries on Medicare…2 were Cataract & 2 more, joint replacment of thumbs, which were  outpatient surgeries. My big fear is we will lose what I consider excellent coverage. However, I uderstand there is a lot of Medicare fraud in some places, which I think places those of us who use it honestly, and go to drs. who would not try to cheat the system, in jeopardy. My gyn retired & I did have difficulty finding a new one who accepted Medicare. That is also another fear - that one of my excellent drs. will quit & I’ll be in the same situation once more. My internist has hinted he might go into a Concierge practice, which raises a lot of questions for me. Gee, maybe I need the death panel - suppose?

Do you remember your dreams when you awake?

My dreams are more interesting and exciting than my life, which has become rather boring now that I am old. I am always invoved with all sorts of people, and only a few are people I know. I am always in great places I have never been with these "friends" having a life as interesting as the best film I have ever seen. It’s great going to sleep knowing my life will soon pick up.

Putting aside matters of law, criminality and ethics, what three people would you nominate to be offed?

There are some people I do not like, and  over my lifetime, so far, only a very few I truly hated, but the idea of doing anything to them in retaliation for my feelings is abhorrent. As for the truly evil people in the world they will be dealt with by society. I cannot understand the people who walk about armed, carry signs wishing for somebody’s death, or, even worse, praying for somebody’s death by a religous person. This has to be bordering on a sickness to have feelings that negative. The only thing I will gladly kill are scorpions, as they are plentiful here & pest control cannot get rid of them. I see one & turn into the mad scorpion killer.
