With the obscene price of gasoline these days, what is your ideal one-day stay-near-home vacation?

We live in Sheffield UK near Chatsworth, a beautiful stately home open to the public with marvellous gardens and I would go there and walk through the gardens and finish with ice cream outside the house. But it would have to be sunny and here in the UK we are not having too much of that. So rainy day stay at home would be mah jong with the children, lunch together and then a good black and white film, we have School for Scandle on our hard drive waiting for that moment.

What, or whom, do you take for granted?

Turning on the tap for water and flicking the switch for electricity. Two essential resources with a great history of invention and development behind them that make make life a doddle compared to others in less developed countries.
