AARP's Health-Care Stance Stirs Controversy Among Members; Obama to Set Record Straight at NH Town Hall Meeting

SG, this is a very long thread, so I am putting HR 3200 here and in some other places on the thread.

This is the bill as it is now;  perhaps, now people can know what they are talking about.

For what it’s worth, some of you may be interested in watching Bill Moyers Journal as we have this healthcare debate.  He always has the best thinkers available…

I saw that, DeB.  A very well written piece.  And, the writer is correct; this too will come to pass eventually.  There is a lot of power out there that is threatened and the usual measures are being taken to insure that the powers that be (corporate) will be intact.  And, the usual measures are fear and anger baiting.  You know, it’s normal to have deep philosophical and political differences, but isn’t it a shame when there is a refusal to work out what we do agree upon and what we do have in common.

Thank you more than you know SG.  I will call her early in the a.m. and get her to do that.  Abby is not very demanding with the doctors, but I will call her daughter and tell her this.  As I remember,  it takes a few phone calls to get them on it, and I learned long ago that in all fields of business and health, never assume anything.

SG is correct, DeB.  It was a case of over kill on the thread when I copied the piece over here.  It took everything else with it and this thread stretched from here to Monday.  So, I got in touch with the Community Manager and apologized profusely.  As you know, most of what we read is easily copied over, but this time it wouldn’t.  Won’t try that again :-)  Did you ever figure out which one it was?

The friends I have in England, as in Canada, have told me they don’t have as much trouble as we do over here.  I have a friend that is somewhat frail since she had her hip replaced.  About two weeks ago, she started a major rectal bleed and have to have two units of blood.  The MRI shows a mass on her kidney and spots on the liver.  The doctors think they may be benign, but they want to make sure of what is going on there, without surgery if possible.  They want to have her swallow a camera-pill, that is a small camera that the patient ingests and then the camera takes pictures for 24 hours and transmits to a belt the patient is wearing.  They want to do it NOW, but her insurance company needs to approve the procedure before they will pay.  Unfortunately, the approval takes a month for it to get back to the doctor’s office; in the meantime, she is left hanging.  They cannot know what their treatment plan is going to be, short of cutting her open, which they want to avoid if possible.  If it is cancer, every minute counts.  Every family member she has died of cancer, and liver problems run in the family. Now…who is holding her hostage?  Government?  Hardly…welcome to the world of Insurance Bureaucracy.

Kelly, it’s obvious that you just want to keep the status quo as long as it doesn’t cost you an extra buck or two.

Deber,  I’m sorry, it should say, "a reliable physician doesn’t diagnose….."

AARP's Health-Care Stance Stirs Controversy Among Members; Obama to Set Record Straight at NH Town Hall Meeting

Deber, a reliable doesn’t diagnose a communicable disease over the telephone and then prescribe an Rx.  And, I can tell you that has been going on for a very long time because my parents had a doctor when I was a little girl that tried to do that to me when I had blood poisoning from a paper cut.  Also,  I don’t know where you live, but all the radiology here in Lexington, Ky is being read by local radiologists.

One trend that I do think we will see more of when it comes to things like flu or sore throat is that people more and more are going to Urgent Treatment Centers.  Here in Lexington, all the hospitals have these facilities all over town as well as outlying counties.  And, now, with the flu, the only way it can be made official as to what kind of flu it is(swine, asian, avian, etc) is, as it has always been,  from a blood test.  I do not know one physician here that handles patients over the email.  Now,  my doctor does send my prescriptions to the Walgreen’s via the internet, so there is not a paper that I take any more, but I find I like that much better.  He won’t even email me lab results; it goes by snail mail after a phone call…

Should Cash for Clunkers be given for foreign cars? Why or why not?

Hi, Joan.  It’s been a long time since we’ve talked.

Wasn’t the Cash for Clunkers supposed to stimulate the economy for the purpose of putting people back in the workforce?  Here in Kentucky, that is what is happening.  I don’t care what they are selling as long as people can get back to their business.

Thank you, Star.  Very informative.  My son-in-law has had Diabetes I since he was 15, and he works for Lexmark.  When he went to work for them years ago, that was one of the main contingincies he dealt with.  I don’t know how it works, but he always was covered even when he switched jobs.
