This is the Democratic version of the “Dixie Chicks offhand comment from the stage” debacle.

I listened to Etta’s supposed tongue-lashing yesterday on YouTube. It was casual stage banter during a performance before she sang her signature song. For crying out loud. Leave it to the press to make a big deal of it.

I’ve got a stimulus package for Obama that takes a whack at three problems at once. First, stop giving those billions to the failed US car companies and banks. Invest them instead in newly created govt. owned green plant operations in the states suffering the worst unemployment numbers. Put millions of Americans to work and inject cash into the economy, (instead of funding the junkets and new airplanes for the banking and automotive execs.) Produce solar panels in these plants and install the first 10% FREE on all HUD and low-income housing, public schools, community centers, city hospitals, etc. That will reduce a direct budget cost (subsidized energy), put people to work and reduce unemployment in beleaguered states, create a solid new American industry that frees us from foreign oil and it reduces global warming. A basic, simple approach.

I just looked at the link to the YouTube video Belinda offered of the president’s comment. When a morning talk show host has to explain a president’s comment it is evidence that the president needs to bone up on his diplomatic skills. This laissez-faire approach is not working.

I didn’t say anything about the dress on Inauguration night. but I thought Michelle Obama’s dress looked like a bedspread

did that happen? did the President comment on a 28 year old singer’s minor weight increase… on camera? really? or are you just putting us on?

32, without a doubt, 32. I had the energy of a thoroughbred. It would be invigorating to be that age today with the opportunities now available to young women.

Albright anywhere within foreign relations is a benefit to us.

Oh my. Heroin addiction and obesity falling into the same category? Come on, cut her a little slack, Ava. It would be difficult for any artist to hear their signature song delivered by another artist at a ceremony that will inevitably transfer the memorability factor of the piece to the other artist. Imagine if Michael Buble sang Sinatra’s “My Way” at the Inauguration when Sinatra was still alive. There would be a fire storm. I wouldn’t hold the Inauguration Committee up to too high of a moral standard. Lest we forget that Mr. Controversial, Rick Warren, was also selected to deliver the invocation.

leigh ann, it’s the Zeitgeist today. everyone wants their 15 min of fame. with this economy we can expect a lot more of them (reality shows, I mean.) of course, this is also why no one watches TV anymore. showtime and hbo still have the goods tho

I was at a pound this week checking out the “adoptees.” The place was about 65% pit bulls. Huddled amongst those growling canines in cages (not all were growling, some were very sweet), were some truly terrific looking (but painfully sad) mutts begging for a good home. It was hard not to stuff the car with the lot of them. Plenty of cats and rabbits too. There was even a rooster! The pound should be Stop Number One for anyone looking for a furry companion.

Etta’s version was truly transcendent.

So saddened to hear about Justice Ginsberg’s illness. Always the voice of reason on the high court. She is a real fighter. Wishing her a speedy recovery.
