We all knew it, we felt it in our bones ( and other areas that will go unmentioned ) we saw it from the beginning, we heard it in our ears, the only thing we couldn’t do was reach out and touch it … well, a very few were lucky enough to actually "touch". We’ll save this discussion for a time when we can sit in a quiet corner, martini in hand …..

I can see you now ..

Since I was at an all girl school it was uniforms during the day - Navy pleated skirt, white round collar blouse with ribbon & pin, navy blazer and blue & white saddle shoes, but once I got to college my new "uniform" was pretty close to yours. What were we thinking with the white shadow and black liner ? And I added white lipstick ! I particularly remember a brown leather mini-skirt that I bought on lay-a-way with baby sitting money. I paired it with maroon tights and a maroon ribbed sweater and chunky shoes.

But as the 60 went on, and I discovered those "funny" cigarettes the hippie stage kicked in. Long hair, sometimes in braids, round wire-rimmed glasses, bell bottoms, moccasins and a red brocade Nehru jacket ( my favorite ! ), peasant dresses and ponchos, I was making a statement, man.

HI Xena, so interesting that you write about this. DH and I have an ongoing discussion/argument about that period. He sees the 60s as the worst period ever, mainly because of the trauma the assassinations on him and the time he spent in the National Guard ( VS his certain draft) and the experience of his brother as a marine in Nam. Kent State, Bobby Seal etc.

I, on the other hand, maybe because I am a woman and also because of my ever present rose-colored glasses, see the possibilities that the period opened up, the Women’s movement, the Civil Rights movement, the anti-war movement, the whole breaking of the 50s mold, the pill, the legalization of Abortion.

Like you, we were also working through college, and breaking the barriers in our own way, but breaking them we were, no doubt about it. The world changed in so many ways, many good and many bad for sure.

Funny, I see big changes going on right now, I sense real turmoil ahead and see the extremes  heading to another clash. My rose -colored glasses are slipping a bit. Adam is representing the very best  ( music, human/gay rights, style etc) but there is a darkness rearing its ugly head ( did I really say that ? a Palinism - UGH ! ) THAT part of the 60s I don’t want to relive ! 

Hi GB. I downloaded it from Itunes and have listened to it several times. "United States of Eurasia" is very provocative, could become an anthem. I love the mix of classical and rock … a definite nod to Queen. I can see why Adam loves them and it bodes well for our expectations of his album. I hear a bit of Radiohead also, another Adam favorite, and very good move if Adam goes in that direction.
