Julia Reed: From Gloria Steinem to Norah O'Donnell, Misogyny and Sexism Are Fine if the Target (Palin) Is on the Right

Sorry Suzanne, as interesting as the Declaration is, we are no longer under the rule of England and the King. No way, no how, is George Bush the King, not does he resemble the King. The people of this country elected GB Twice !!!! He will be leaving office in a few weeks. So that war you are referring to with the King was over in the 1700s. This is 2008..Come on up into the 21st Century. Regarding your take on the church Sarah Palin belongs to which you seem to hold in such contempt, you had better take a close listen to the Rev. Wright who can get going on the United States and is the minister of choice of the Obamas.

Well, not exactly Lorraine. Most of us had not heard of Obama until he became a candidte for President. So, in fact. we have had only a slightly longer time to “get to know” Obama than Palin. What we have had is decades to get to know Joe Biden and John Mc Cain..One of those two is running for President and one for Vice President… Which leaves us with a Presidential candidate that is only recently known and a Vice President with the same situation. Can she prove herself in 56 days? Her chances are just as good as Barak Obamas..And she isn’t running for President.

Thanks Julia Reed for your article. Many of us like Sarah Palin and its looking like more and more women across America do too. The polls this morning reflect that people want “change you can count on”…the kind of change Sarah Palin and John McCain are talking about.

Who or what do you think you were in a past life?

Oh come on Suzanne, we are talking about reincarnation here, not presidential politics. There are plenty of threads here where you can express yourself about Sarah Palin..Lets not hi-jack this thread for that too.

Margo Howard Asks: Can You See The Smoke Coming Out of My Ears?

Hey Susan, I think you must have misread, or misquoted what I said. I said “sit up all nite with a sick child, (comma) or get a house full of kids off to school. Not get a houseful of sick kids off to school..I think actually some people do send sick kids to school if friends who are school nurses are right. But I didn’t mean me, or you or Sarah. I meant to comment that her life is not totally different from millions of women. Lots of American women are mayors of small towns, in fact, our city has a woman mayor.. Are you kidding..the nanny business is alive and well in America because working mothers have to either have a nanny or a day care center. Most prefer a nanny so the children are in their own home. Lots of us have nannies.. Some of those so called “nannies” could also be called Grandmother..thats true in my own case. I care for my grandson until his working parents get home from work. Gramted most of us don’t shoot wolves from airplanes and Im against shooting wolves or polar bears. If elected Vice President I think Sarah would not be doing that anymore. I wonder how much time she had to devote to hunting like that? There is a “hunting culture” in this country that is extensive. They go out and kill all sorts of animals every year and take great pride in hanging the heads of “game” in their houses. They all vote too. Sarah is more likely to get the hunting vote than Obama. I know nothing about the life of Michelle Obama except two things. She went to church with her husband and listened to the Rev. Wright for 20 years and took her children to that church too. And, we heard from someone that the thesis she wrote for her Masters Degree at Harvard was totally incomprehensible..So, we took the trouble to get a copy on line and read it for ourselves. Yep, its imcomprehensible all right. Im astonished that Harvard with its reputation of being the ultimate in higher education, would grant a masters degree for such poor scholarship. It certainly wouldn’t have passed in the Universities I went to at the Masters level. Be that as it may, Im sure Michelle Obama is a good mother and she too is one of us…I have no opinion on Carly Fionina.

Controversial Jewel of Medina Book About Prophet Mohammed To Be Published in U.K.

Does it bother you that here in America a book is not published because someone might be disturbed by its content? There are several books out there right now that disturb me because of the language and ideas they espouse, but I wouldn’t have them not published or sold to those to whom they have an appeal. The world is full of disturbing ideas. When radical Muslins can impose their censorship on what we can publish and read here in the US, we have given up a very important freedom.. So what if they are upset.? .If they break the law of our country by acting out, in ways that are illegal, then they are arrested and tried..for breaking the law, not for being upset. We are not and will never be under the law of Sharia, so lets not get started in that direction!!!! Muslims may have to follow the Koran but here in America we do not and we don’t have to follow Muslim law either. Whats next?? Burkas for all we women so radical Muslims won’t be offended??? Muslim religious police who can beat you severly up on the street if they decide you have committed some infraction of Sharia law? Boo to Random House for losing their nerve..

Read it and weep if you are so inclined..this morning the latest polls show McCain/Palin leading in the polls. I saw that on the early morning news on TV.

Who or what do you think you were in a past life?

I would like to think that I might have been Eleanor of Aquitane, married to both the King of France and the King of England..mother of Richard the Lion Hearted. Im very drawn to Eleanor…I’ve read every book about her I can find and feel very positive about her life. I also am fascinated about things ancient Chinese..I have had dreams about being Chinese….not current but very ancient times. And Im sure Ive had several lives previously wherein I trained horses. I came into this life fascinated by horses, even as an infant. And I just seemed to already “know” how to do certain things with horses that I call natural..but they are somewhat complex training methods. There are no memories of those lives, but that information just seems to arise up out of my mind when its needed and I know exactly what to do. I believe in reincarnation and think that every lifetime is an opportunity to work on the problems that make our lives one of suffering of some kind. The Buddha said that if we are born human, we are very blessed. So all of us here are working out our problems, yes, even the very rich and powerful have problems from which they suffer. If the soul is eternal then multiple lifetimes are only a drop in the bucket of creation.

Jamie Lee Curtis, I guess you didn’t see Obama dithering around around when asked to answer questions on the interview with Rick Warren. As scholarly as he was, he couldn’t figure out what his answer would be. There was no one to prompt him or hint what he should say. And your intellectual approach to relating is interesting, but most of those women out there aren’t going to hear about it, or read it, or know what you are talking about. I don’t think Sarah Palin is the fool you think her to be. Being a scholar, who holds history of civilization in his head and will read and learn as he goes,( trying to decide “Yes or No’ on how to vote. oops there is no “present” button on the Oval desk, may not relieve whatever fears the people of this country have.) But be comforted, the Republicans are sharing ideas and plans for the myraid contingencies they will/might face. They have been tested in the face of a fire fight before…They don’t need a re-do. I’ll admit the Democrats are scary…on all those issues..How in the name of all tthats realistic will we ever pay for all those grandiose plans??? I can see where you would relate to that..(see above discussion about dynamics of relation and Gordian Knot)

Margo Howard Asks: Can You See The Smoke Coming Out of My Ears?

Well, Sherrie, we are perhaps not talking here about your vote. I would not tell you who you should vote for. I was talking about the thousand, yes millions, of women out there in middle and lower-middle class America who can relate to Sarah Palin. You have no worries about having a person with a vigina on the Democratic ticket this election. That just what I was saying.. The Democrats are offering no change we can count on, from here under the bus. By all means, stick with your current perception of how things are. I am talking about a different reality and one Republicans are addressing and talking to..directly. It is definately to the advantage of Republicans if Democrats fail to see the handwriting on the wall. The Republicans are not telling women out there how dumb,, sick, stupid and crazy they are. Especially if they don’t happen to 100% agree with what the Democrats say. How can they agree after seeing the way Hillary was treated.? Sarah Palin is telling them we know what your pain is because we are one of you, personified in Sarah Palin. Sarah Palin has dealt with and is dealing with a lot of the problems other women in America are dealing with. The problems she faces, other than running for Vice President, are the problems they are facing. THe Republicans have a very young strong, smart,, warm and friendly lady who knows what it is to be a soccar mom, to sit up nights with a sick child, to plan and get a houseful of kids off the school each day. The life millions of American women live every day. They know Sarah. I don’t think its just they want a person with a vagina, they want a woman of power and strength to represent them and to keep their interests in the forefront of their mind while in office. The Democrats had such a woman in Hillary but that is not who they selected as their candidate. NOT choosing Hillary meant a lot more than just being for Obama..Defeating her sent a strong message to women all over America as they watched that primary drama unfold. Amd as strong and as much support as she had in the Democratic party, it wasn’t enough to keep that party machine from running over her. And they wouldn’t even let her be a candidate for Vice President…Imagine that!!! Amid much smiling they sunk that whole side of the Democratic support. Well, who did that.??? Not Republicans!! But Republicans did see that big window of opportunity and they jumped right through it. And it has energized their ticket and set it on a winning road to the White House. Sarah Palin may not be the perfect woman but she is the one we have..alive and well and strong and smart and out there talking to the women of America. I say, youu go Sarah!!!!

Margo Howard Asks: Can You See The Smoke Coming Out of My Ears?

No, Sherrie, not nonsense..just what has happened. Isn’t it true that Hillary got treated pretty shabby? And how much did your votes for Hillary count? 18 million of you just written off… Weren’t you all told “just get over it and vote for Obama and do as you are told”. Isn’t that business as usual?? Granted, they did throw a few crumbs your way, but nothing that changed anything from the way they had planned and executed their plan. Sure looks and feels like an under the bus experience to me. And, there in the Democrats lost their best candidate in favor of “business as usual, a young one with very limited experience and an old one with years and years of the same old Democratic ticket. Joe Biden is no maverick!! Rather than run a woman like Hillary with tons of experience and a woman of power, they go with a young, but charming young man as the President. Thank you for restraining yourself from expressing yourself in a way that violates the policies of this website. I appreciate that restraint.

Margo Howard Asks: Can You See The Smoke Coming Out of My Ears?

Interesting that the Democrats have done a great job of empowering McCain and Palin and passed the mantle of “change” over to the mavericks of the Republican party. Obama and Biden are now the same old Democratic line with just lip service to women. First chance they got, they threw threw Hillary under the bus. Thats where they will throw you ladies too, once they are in office. If you are of the feminine gender you don’t count…Today it is obvious that the Democrat party has a real contempt for women. Sarah Palin is today the most powerful woman in America. She has the attention of millions of people, who are listening closely to what she says. Not what her opponents have to say about her, that is just galvinizing lots of people to be more identified with her. Millions of women who both have a career, or work full time at jobs, and raise a family at the same time, are identifying with her. When she is criticized for standing by her family, her daughter, her infant son, millions of American women either are doing the same thing, or have done it. When she is condemned for having attended 5 or even colleges to get a college education, this is familiar to lots of families who had to make the choice of going to a college they could afford. We are talking here about thousands of middle class American women who are represented by Sarah Palin. Her issues are their issues. I just read where Geraldine Ferraro commented that Sarah Palin was the FIRST person to ever publically thank her for blazing the trail for women to run for highest political office. Not one person in the Democrat party ever got around to thanking her for her courage and fortitude. Its just most interesting to me that McCain and Palin represent change we can count on..They will bring a fresh breath of air through a stale Administration, routing out corruption and eliminating earmarks that are a huge waste of taxpayer money. If Obama and Biden win, well we will see you ladies under the bus…Where all those of the feminine gender will all be for the next 4 years.

The Top 15 Countries With the Most Brides Under Age 15

Well said Diana..No doubt most of these marriages are arranged marriages. The family does not always have the best interests of the daughter in mind. I also read a dreadful article about little girls sold by their families into prostitution in Asian countries. Some as young as 11 years old. I noticed that China is not on the list and their situation regarding girl babies is appauling. The status of women in the world in general is quite low. We American women are truly blessed and even if we think there are still things we want to see improved, we have come a long way.

Post-conventions, do you think it's going to be a tight race?

We are on the same planet alright Frank. Just the same situation and information seen from different states of consciosness., different perspectives. How everyone sees things depends on what state of consciousness they are in and how and what they define as their reality. What one may see as attack in a political speech, another may see as just entusiasm and highly charged energy. You may hear one speech, I will hear something different…or actually we each make a different meaning for ourselves out of what we have just filtered through our attitudes and our paradime.

Post-conventions, do you think it's going to be a tight race?

I read it…and I say “Bah humbug” to Judith Warner. What a pessimist.
