Post-conventions, do you think it's going to be a tight race?

Okey, I guess we did. I tuned in to John McCains speech at the Republican Convention. Which speech did you listen to? There were no guns at the speech I listened to. Since when did smiles and giggles become the same as guns?? A good sense of humor is essential to maintaining a good sense of balance. John McCain is a warrior, and he knows what it means to “fight” and there are ways of “fighting” things like poverty, ignorance, hopelessness, disease that I think we all agree need to happen. I like the way he and Sarah Palin have stated they will “fight” corruption, including in their own party as well as elsewhere, and “fight” greed that is rampant in some places in Washington DC. They will “fight” inefficiency in buracracy…I am not opposed to those “fights”… To me, America is not a mess. We have some serious problems to face but when didn’t we have serious problems to face? Dealing with problems is part of being alive. To me, the American people are the most creative, courgeous, generous people in the world. Given the right leadership they can accomplish anything they set out to do. In order for some things to change, people have to move to a higher state of consciousness, out of fear and anger and on up to courage, integrity and wisdom. Wallowing around in those negative states of fear and anger (altho anger IS more live affirming than hate or fear) will not lead us to where our goals are. Democrats have a platform of “change you can believe in” but now it seems Republicans have “Change you can count on”… Be of good cheer. Help is on the way to lead us out of todays entanglements and into something much better. That help is headed up by John McCain and Sarah Palin…

The Republican speeches are much more optomistic and upbeat. When I listen to the Democrats they seem like the voices of doom…I come away with the impression they think unless we elect Obama we are doomed. That is a very negative message. We sure don’t want it to be a self fulfilling prophesy. The American people are very creative and like McCain said in his speech last night, we can turn this trend around and build something much better. As the old saying goes. “you can catch more flies with honey than you can with vinegar” and I think a very positive upbeat message will catch more votes than one that plays on peoples fears. There is a positive buzz happening among the people I know for Sarah Palin. People like her..If we are going to take a chance on someone with out an extensive record of accomplishment, she is way ahead on that score. And we will have a man with many years experience and a record of integrity as the President. This is so positive!!! I hope some of you who think America is such a hopeless mess can let a new energy, a breeze of fresh air renew your courage and strength. We are NOT a hopeless mess…What we think today will be our reality tomorrow..

Liz Smith: Governor Palin and Her Merry Men!

Too bad liberals, you threw your best candidate under the bus. And gave us a charming young fellow with little experience, not a sterling record of voting on issues that came up for him to decide on…No “present ” button on the desk in the Oval Office..and a guy who came out of the Chicago Daly political machine and a lawyer to boot.. Not a high recommendation for the kind of decisions that will have to be made every single day as President. For all his charm, he waffles around dithering on the brink way too much. McCain will keep Sarah Palin. as his Vice Presidentt candidate. She is just what our country needs…a woman who is smart, has integrity, faces problems head on and will stand up and be counted. You had one of those but didn’t run her for office. Im thinking Sarah and John will not do much dithering..they are focused and on track and know what needs to be done, and how to get it accomplished.

Palin Electrifies GOP, Women and Presidential Race

To me I was appauled when Democrats threw Hillary Clinton under the bus like they did. And with her went to hopes of a lot of women even many who are not Democrats. I think she was treated very shabby by the “old boy Democratic machine”. Once again to me, the Democrats have shot themselves in the foot and failed to nominate the candidate who could have gotten a lot of support from women all over the country. They have given us instead a candidate with no practical experience altho very silver tongued. Well, it isn’t the same. Now the Republicans have put forth a bright, intelligent, woman who is a family person as well as a political candidate. I like her a lot. Sarah Palin is also a fighter and not afraid to stand up and fight for what she believes in. I think she will take on the “old entrenched buracracy network in Washington DC and get rid of a lot of the wasteful spending that happens there. I think women everywhere in this country were waiting and hoping for a woman candidate for President or Vice President..The time was ripe for a strong woman to run for that office and the “iron was hot”. The Republicans struck that hot iron and the Democrats did not.. Its a lot more than abortion issues…its the economy, jobs for our husbands as well as ourselves, education for our kids and grandkids. Health care that we can afford..all those important values that make life in America what it is. A positive view of the world. Hillary should have been the Democrat candidate. She was the strongest must experienced, most able and she ended up under the bus…and with her a lot of votes from women not necessarily Democrats. I say to Sarah Palin…you go girl…there are a lot of us behind you.!!!!!

wowOwow Reader Forum: Governor Palin Addresses RNC

I thought Sarah Palin gave an excellent speech. I think by the time Nov roll around she will have convinced thousands of voters to vote the McCain/Palin ticket. And I think she will make a great Vice President and President of the US Senate. I think you saw the winning ticket this evening!!

If you could switch careers today, what would you choose as your new field?

Ah, a fantasy about what I might have done!! Well, I think I would be a high end real estate agent..There seems to be a good living to be made doing that. And think of all the great houses and property you get to see. My real “job” would be owning a horse breeding farm. A big self sustaining farm where beautiful Arabian horses are bred and raised and trained, with pastures where hay and grain are grown, big gardens with lots of fresh veggies..chickens and turkeys, a dog or two and several cats..some house cats some barn cats…a complete composting operation where all is recycled back onto the earth as rich compost. Big spring fed ponds where wild fowl can feed and find a safe place even in hunting season..Big grass pastures with mares and their foals that I could walk through. Arabian mares are such sweet horses and they willingly share their babies with you. Nothing is sweeter than a little Arabian foal who comes up so curious and cautious. Mom is also there with her muzzle out front, hoping there is a carrot for her. Yes, I would be a country mouse..that is such a good life..lots of hard work and outdoor living..surrounded by the people and animals one loves and works with.

HerTube: September Has Arrived

Autumn has always been one of my favorite times. I love the abundance of all that garden produce, gathered in and stored up for the winter. Only the other day as we sat having breakfast on the patio, several geese flew overhead in their “v” formation, honking and heading to the river about 2 blocks away. That sound is one of the sounds of fall that I love. I love the crisp mornings, the warm lazy afternoons, the those big fall moons that light up the world I live in. As a teenager growing up on a ranch, there was many an autumn moonlight ride on the horse where we would ride around “the country mile” which was more like 5 miles, or a fall hayride on sweet grass hay..My Dad had a team of matched black mares, big work horses, that would be hitched to the big hay wagon and everyone would pile on the hay and away we went. In winter if there was enough snow those same mares would pull the sleigh and they had real jingle bells on their harness..I still have some of those bells that hang on a door in my house.. That time is long gone, but it made an impression on me that has been enjoyed and was comforting all my life. Oh and I LOVE Thanksgiving with family and friends. There is something about the blue quality of the sky in October that is unlike any other month. Autumn is a treasure trove of wonderful experiences. I love summer too, but fall is always welcome. And just think, its time to start thinking about Christmas shopping…I already have some of mine done and tucked away to be wrapped later.

Should unions have more power in the U.S.?

Unions are a good idea until their leadership begins to take on the very same greed components that they are supposed to be protecting workers from. And once they become strong enough to be a political factor, the benefits to the average working person goes out the window. Rank and file Union members are pretty much told to shut up and vote like we tell you.. I belonged to a union for a while, went out on strike, walked up and down in the picket line, did all the union things and didn’t get a darned thing for all that. No salary increase, no shorter working hours, nothing. But the union bosses came out stronger and got a bigger piece of the political pie. The union I was in pretty much jerked us around just like the corporation, only using different language and arguements. So, workers may be jerked around by the company and/or jerked around by the union. That was my union experience.

Sarah Palin, Governor of Alaska Reportedly McCain's VP Pick

Oh ho Carol, and she is a much better shot than Cheney too.

Sarah Palin, Governor of Alaska Reportedly McCain's VP Pick

I do know what the word “sleazy” means and it most definately does not apply to either John McCain or Sarah Palin. What is it that liberals are so fearful about? There are lots of us who like Sarah Palin. I admire what she has done. She has 13 years of public service to her credit, cleaned up corruption including that in her own political party, restored efficiency to government in her state, refused a big “earmark” that was wasteful…raised a family and has a lot of charm and grace as well. She has administered government at the local and state level and done a good job of it. No one has National Security experience unless they have been directly involved in that at the Federal level. Obama certainly has no National Security experience..I think both John McCain and Biden cover that area.. She has good economic experience and the economic issues are at the forefront of peoples minds at this time. The war in Iraq is not the big issue anymore. I think Sarah is a good choice for John Mc Cain to have made. She is a woman of power, up and coming.

Sarah Palin, Governor of Alaska Reportedly McCain's VP Pick

Sorry, never watched that show, so can’t relate to your comment.

Sarah Palin, Governor of Alaska Reportedly McCain's VP Pick

Well Kris, we have been told repeatedly by the Democrats that 2 years in the Senate was more than enough experience for Obama to be President. We have been told over and over again that Mr. Obama has had plenty of experience given his 2 years in the Senate and the fact is, he has no experience at all in administering any sort of company or organization. Sarah is more modest..she is only running for Vice President. She had prior experience in administration as mayor of a small city as well as administering a government agency and being Governor of Alaska. I hope you aren’t implying that MEN are so much smarter than WOMEN that 2 years experience for men is more than enough but women must have a lot of years to catch on to the same thing. Do you mean to say you think Obama can do his very best after 24 months of experience,( ie. on the job training), while an intelligent woman couldn’t possible master any of the resonsibilities of the same job in a much longer time frame. What world do I live in?? I live in a world of very highly educated, kind and intelligent people. We are all professionals in the world of medicine, social science, private business and agricultural endeavors. Did John Mc Cain say personally, directly to you , “I require beauty queen women, not real ones”?????? If not, I want to know what evidence you have that a beauty queen is what he requires in a Vice President.

Sheila Nevins: Why Palin Is a Great Choice

Thank you for the intelligence reflected in this opinion of Ms. Nevins. Up to now, I was coming away with the definite impression that quite a few of the the ladies here on Wow thought anyone who disagreed with them only did so out of being very stupid. That is not a way to win hearts and minds if you want their vote. Make no mistake, there are a millions of men and women out there in the USA who think John McCain and Sarah Palin are just the winning ticket!! And they will vote that opinion come November. The whole country does not have the same opinion as the more liberal side of the political aisle. When it comes to the economy and domestic issues they will vote that opinion. They may not like the war, but they won’t base their vote on that issue.

Sarah Palin, Governor of Alaska Reportedly McCain's VP Pick

From where I see all this.. The Democrats have given us a Presidential candidate with little experience but enough charm to win a Mr. Congeniality contest..He is a Learner type candidate..Learn as you go . For Vice President we have the old white haired man with years and years of experience in Washington who knows a thing or two about getting a lot of bills through the Congress. The Republicans have given us a Presidential candidate with years and years of experience who knows a thing or two about what it takes to get bills through the Congress For Vice President we have the young charming woman with limited experience who is a Learner Vice President. Unlike the Learner President, she HAS won a Miss Congeniality contest so while she is a Learner Vice President, she does have some record of achievement. So if John McCain were to no longer hold the reins of State in his firm grip, Sarah is not different than Obama in ability and experience to date. So, we can vote for a Learner President or a Learner Vice President Sarah has the executive experience of a mayor and being Governer of one of our biggest states. I think she is a better shot than Chaney. Isn’t that a balanced ticket from both parties?

Whoopi Weighs in on Sarah Palin and Reader Comments on Her Obama Post!

Whew!! The generosity of spirit on this thread is under-whelming. Is it correct to assume that your “sisterhood” would not include an “obvious unworthy” like Sarah Palin.???
