Announcing wOw's Book Party!

Add me to the list of people excited and pleased by this new thread. Thanks to you who thought it up and then worked hard to get it happening. I can hardly wait!!

Chances for Obama-Clinton Ticket Fading

Gosh, I wonder if Hillary would consider running as McCains VP??? Wouldn’t that be interesting??

Do you color your hair?

I keep waiting to see my hair turn grey and it keeps not turning grey. Im 78 years old and still have all my dark auburn hair and its not colored. Years and years ago I was a bleached platinum blonde, just to see if it was true that blondes have more fun. They have fun, but not more fun!!! Guess its just a matter of genetics, but so far my hair hasn’t turned grey and for years there has been one little thin strip on the right side that puts out a few grey hairs, but its been the same size forever.

Why Is the Mainstream Media Keeping John Edwards's Alleged Love Affair a Secret?

I cannot leave your replies to my posts go unanswered. I know what John Edwards says he stands for..Which brings us to my point. In todays world the new requirement for success is not greed but dependable integrity. If there is to be any hope of widespread recovery of millions of people from hopeless conditions, our leaders must be men of integrity and dedicated to Truth..not relative truth, but Truth..like integrity, kindness, reason and such. To me IF the alledged betrayal and lying to his wife and to the public, is true, then he lacks the integrity for the job to be done. He has shown himself to be untrustworthy. His family, to whom he claims to be very devoted, may have been betrayed and lied to. He is accused of leading a double life by some element of the press. He cannot lead anyone to something he does not bellieve in and practice. I do not consider this to be “muddy-headed seventh-grade “moral” thinking which is useless. Im not so concerned about the sex of whatever might be involved as I am about the willingness to betray a trust, lie and misrepresent the true character of who he is, and to hold himself up in public as a man of honor worthy of the trust the public (voters) would place in him. YOU are thinking about the sex in this matter..I am thinking about the level of integrity. Your last suggestion is unworthy of even discussing and is insulting. If we are going to have an intelligent exchange of ideas and discussion we cannot resort to personal insult based on fantasy. WE must also have integrity.

Why Is the Mainstream Media Keeping John Edwards's Alleged Love Affair a Secret?

None of our business?? Surely you jest!! Of course its our business. These men want to be our leaders..When they sign up to be an elected official and represent themselves as being men of family and truthful and full of integrrity..why shouldn’t we know if that turns out to not be the case? If its all a big lie, why trot out the wife and kids all smiles and hail fellow well met when that is NOT what the real deal is. We will see where this all goes and I think its entire appropriate that WoW has brought it to our attention.

Why Is the Mainstream Media Keeping John Edwards's Alleged Love Affair a Secret?

Just to point out an obvious thing. WoW titles itself to be about politics and GOSSIP…Wouldn’t you say that at this point in time, the “item” about John Edwards would qualify as gossip? Possible scandal? Why be upset with Wow when this site is just doing what it said it intended to do. In time, when others besides the National Enquirer have had time to verify the story, the mainstream press will report it and the focus will change from gossip to politics.

Barbra Streisand and Barack Obama: 'American Idols?'

Looking for substance? What exactly does ‘CHANGE WE CAN BELIEVE IN” mean???? I am put in mind of George Wallace who used to shout “Stand up for America,” and cheering throngs went wild without ever knowing what “standing up for America” meant when George Wallace said it. What it meant of course was whatever it meant to whom ever heard it. It meant votes for George Wallace without any substance in those speeches. I will believe that Europe has been won over to the US point of view when we see Germany and France stepping up to the plate with money and troops and support for cleaning up the various and assundry messes in the world today. Its easy to cheer and shout so long as we are not talking about it costing anything…Lets see what they do..be sure to pay attention later. As for the little issue of poverty increasing in this country well it shouldn’t be any surprize when we have taken in 12 million poor people from around the world..illegally. Are they needing and wanting services like running water, a place to live, Emergency Room Services, Educational facilities..????

Why Is the Mainstream Media Keeping John Edwards's Alleged Love Affair a Secret?

IF it is true, then of course John Edwards has misrepresented the kind of man he is. Has anyone noticed that men are rarely wise when it comes to things of this nature??? They do stupid things that ruin their lives.

Some say the United States is heading toward a Depression. Do you agree?

We will definately have a depression if we talk ourselves into it. It will be a self-fulfilling prophacy. What you hold in mind today, you will live tomorrow. Energy follows thought, Be very careful what you ask for, you just may get it. On the other hand, and this is where I am in all this, this is a very creative time in America. A new energy is coming in that has nothing to do with political candidates, but with the expansion of consciousness into a different way of thinking of ourselves and our country. New inventions are emerging and new businesses to make those inventions are springing up. If America can send 700 billion dollars a year out to buy oil, we can invent new ways of being and doing things that keep that money right here at home. Or if many billions of dollars are drained out of our economy by the drug trade, we can abandon using drugs and marijuana and use that money to more creative and productive ends. We are where we are by OUR behaviors and beliefs. Its all very well to point the finger at our government but the real culprits can be seen by looking in the mirrow. We elected those men and we took out credit cards and bought stuff we couldn’t really afford..We failed to update our education to keep pace with a changing world, so find ourself in a back-water sort of place and hope someone will rescue us from ourselves. We stuffed our noses with cocaine and let ourselves get grossly fat.. That is not creative nor is it productive!!! So, now its time to suck it up, and get on with doing what Americans do best, get creative and reinvent yourself. Reach deep inside yourself for that strength and creativity that is your God given right..pursue happiness in a new and different way. Its an exciting and wonderful time to be alive and this is absolutely the best place in the world to live in. If the American people set the pace and the standard, be sure a new President will run around to the front of that parade and appear to lead the way..Its how its always worked.

Should men open doors for women?

Absolutely! Good manners are what makes civilization possible. My husband was raised to be a gentleman and I was raised to be a lady. Its a system that works very well in a marriage and in life. We highly respect one another both in public and in our private life. We taught our sons our standards and are now helping to teach our grandson the same thing. Good manners will take one a long way in this world as well as building character and cultivating spiritual merit,

Do you feel desensitized to reports of tragedy in the news?

I voted “yes” because after a while, one tragedy after another, one disaster after another, and always the guilt trip laid on us by those who think the United States and its citizens should be responsible for every damned thing that happens in the world, is just more than I can take these days. I can’t be a player in a rousing game of “Ain’t it Awful” day after day, week after week and month after month, etc. and it have no effect on me. Your physical body cannot distinguish between what is “news” and what is actually happening to you personally. So, all that anger, rage, guilt, upset, that we experience is in there having an effect on our physical body and our emotional well being. As far as our body knows, the tragedy we read about and have a strong feeling about is real to us..same with movies. Mentally we recognize that its just a movie or a TV news report or a so called “documentary”, but your body doesn’t get it like that. The bodys response to thoughts is an “emotion” and those emotions we feel are just as real as if we were there..and being bombarded, day after day with negative energy like that will produce effects in our body I don’t want turned into my own personal tragic situation. So I know the press isn’t turned into this realization and we have our clicker in our hands and need to use it more often.

Do you have a green thumb or a black thumb?

Definately the green thumb side is where I live. We only have a small, enclosed patio these days, but I have it filled with plants. My oldest son told me once, “Mom, where ever you go, flowers just bloom in your wake.” My garden always has something in bloom. Right now its impatiens. Red, pink (two or three different shades of pink) white and orange and coral.. Throw in a few red and fushia and white geraniums, and now the lemon tree putting out new growth and flower buds.. I love to have some nemesia blooming somewhere near the patio table and big swing, because of its fragrance..its so delicate and sweet..and comes wafting across the table during dinner, The cabbage looper worms ate all the white and pink petunias, so what was left just got put in the recycle bin.. My lilies, 6 feet tall with huge white flowers the size of dinner plates just finished blooming..another nice perfume in the garden. I have just huge lovely earthworms who work hard helping keep the soil in good shape. We also have some big black bumble bees who come every day and share whatever nectar there is with the hummingbirds. All good friends. In summer I spend most of my day in the garden..working or relaxing and reading. I love my big 3 seater swing, with soft , lush cushions and a canopy..a great place to read. We have our meals out on the patio, whenever possible. I have several orchids that are thriving and add an exotic touch along with the palms and banana trees and Birds of Paradise … We live in what I call “An urban Forest” since our neighborhood is full of giant Calfornia redwood trees, along with Sycamores, Birch and Magnolia trees. On the smaller side, flowering peach and plum, dogwood and red bud. The one thing I cannot seem to grow is gardenias..I have killed every plant I ever bought or was given to me. And I LOVE gardenias. My daughter-in -law grows fantastic gardenias and keeps our houses full of fresh scent filled gardenias.. Next to horses, I love gardening most.

Oops..the video is no longer available..it says, out here on the West Coast at 7:00 AM.

With the obscene price of gasoline these days, what is your ideal one-day stay-near-home vacation?

We have a dear and long time friend who lives in Cambria, California..right on the central coast of California. A wonderful place to go. Cambria is a small village with charming shops and restaurants. My favorite is Moonstone Inn and their shrimp is just out of this world good. My friend is an artist and her home is full of beautiful works of art…and every evening there is a grand view of the ocean and sunset..Its quiet, relaxing and at the same time very life affirming. We also lived and loved Newport Beach, in southern Calif. That was fun!! There was a lovely little coffee shop right on the marian and across the street you could buy Belgium chocolate..We sat on the deck at the marian, drinking coffee and eating chocolate..watching the boats and the birds… Another friend has a great house, high up on the top of one of the local mountains in Laguna Beach..We sit out on her deck and watch the ocean.. Another friend lives in Carmel..So, we can just go around on a one day trip and visit with friends and enjoy the California coast. We also live about 2 and 1/2 hours from Lake Tahoe in the mountains,, or can pop on over the top and down the mountain to Reno for a bit of gambling for a change. Or, my patio is a place of great peace and relaxation. Its quite small, with a little garden, but the energy there is excellent. And the best part for this thread is, no gas needed to stay home and enjoy what we have right here.

Should Spanish be taught as part of the mandatory curriculum in our elementary schools?

Only English should be taught as a mandatory subject. Other languages could be available (as funding permits) for interested students to sign up for as an elective subject. A proficiency in English should be required for a high school diploma. Some colleges require HS credits in other languages so students could be aware that admission to a college of their choice require a second language credits. I took Latin, Italian and German..havn’t used any of those to any extent over my lifetime, but Im also not an international traveler. I learned “barn Spanish” fromthe experience of having Mexican men work in the horse training barns as grooms and trainers. Schools are already underfunded for anything but the basic 3 Rs and in too many cases, not doing a good job of that. If language classes other than English were optional and perhaps carried a fee that would appeal to interested parents and students. In my grandsons school, advanced art, music and drama are available that way..Parents pay for their kids to be in those classes and the classes are full. This type of class is also taught some weeks in the summer. The other classes that seem to be full are remedial English and not all the students in there are immigrants children. Youngsters who hope to get good jobs and prosper in the US must speak English fluently and have a good vocabulary as well.
