Which recent high-profile death has most affected you?

John Lennon. My stepbrother lived on 72nd as I was growing up. I spent so much time on that block, into teen and early adulthood. I remember when my brother first said to me, “This is Mr. Lennon.” It was a wild block in that everyone as in most of the City, just kind of lives as you wave and talk (at least back then) as if you were next door house neighbors…in a way you are. I still mourn him and I don’t know if it will ever go away.

Should Spanish be taught as part of the mandatory curriculum in our elementary schools?

No, not spanish, french, german, or any dialect of chinese, indian (native tonuges maybe not the continent) Unfortunately, natives learned the Kings English of the time.. A ‘SECOND” language should be a mandatory selective of languages. I can’t begin to say how much fun it is to be in another talking on a sidewalk or dirt road. Althouh I may have not been 100 fluent, I could at least converse. Add my apologies for my horrid verb conjugation or pronunciation, and we all laugh. It makes travelling so much fun. I’ve even been able to help tourists in our country..I feel their pain. My spouse tells a story of being in Italy off ship and one of his buddies called them “foreignors”! My husband had to remind him that they were in Italy as the buddy complained “No one spoke english”. As Americans we can be too short-sighted. Still, upsets me at times to have to go through all the prompts just to ask one question…I can speak spanish so I don’t get upset if I hit “2” or “4”, “dos” or “quartro” by mistake. Or, if I’m transferred to Mumbai, while I have no undersanding of the language, I can at least patiently ask to be transferred back to the States. I don’t think it’s cute when some of the major advertisers slip in a spanish commerical on a english station. Or, there are times when the SAP is on and it won’t go away — spanish. I feel that this only helps to fan the fire, it’s not gently persuading anyone into acceptance. I don’t know what the answer is right now other than start showing all language commericals, etc. on all stations and let us decide. Spanish is not fair to the other minorities either, of which I understand soon they will be a majority. A majority/minority? Enough said.

Dorian Leigh: 1917 - 2008

I’m sitting here listening to Bloomberg in the other room wondering what the heck is going to happen with our economy tomorrow! Listened to Austrialia, now trailing into the Asian market! By 5:30, I’ll be glued, waiting on someone to say something with the collaspe of Indy how not to panic!…Fannie…Freddie…!!! Odd enough, I also sent an e-mail to someone at LVMH who took the time to make my life just a little bit happier with a stark comparison to someone at Conde this week that reminded me just how, “So into me” some people can actually be. Nothing major, someone just took time out to find out a shade of lipstick. She promised it might be a while to get back to me (obviously as this is not in the grand scheme at all) but I mattered. Me. It’s hard to understand why people live their lives and why spouses and other lovers can accept certain things with understanding we can’t know, because we are not them. It appears as if they all tried to do the best they could, and lived their lives as we live ours day to day. Love, want, need, familirazation just doesn’t go away because people want it to. If that were the case we wouldn’t have addictions. We never know what or who is going to tap us on the shoulder. What I see in those photos and the article is a form of grace, softness, but determination of a time long gone — I believe. My mother is that age, these pictures now afforded me the grand opportunity to now look at our photos and see the fashion, the trend of how people worked and played. A new window of understanding.

Christie Brinkley's Starter Husband … and Seven More Men You Rarely Hear About

Dr. Klein, you as I say, “a conundrum warped in an enigma”. Not meant to be offensive, your comments just make me smile. In the terms of creating an equalibrium I give you props, sir.

When you travel, what three items won't you leave home without?

ki b..hope you’re feeling better also. Packing…flip flops, ear plugs, the kind that are used on a range they come in seperate packs. With my head injury I’m like the rest that suffer from headaches. I got stuck once without them and was sick for over a week, not to mention trip to the emergency room for the headache — ouch. All the usual things now in a smaller version women carry and a journal. I also mail postcards back to myself….Headaches? Does anybody have any suggestions on leaf blowing machines and edgers. I know so of us are from city and some so remote, it never happens. but every once in a while..I’m out, and those things are just going! It’s enough to make me want scream. Thanks.

41-Year-Old Swimmer Heads to Olympics

I haven’t caught anything with Bejing except her. While I was truly sick over the last couple of years every now and then a story would pop up about her training, and what she was hoping to do. I caught her last race the other night, that was the only race that I had to see. It’s awesome when you break your own record as many times as she has. The ability to move beyond and succeed limitations. I was sitting on my bed screaming! Don’t tell me that as women we don’t totally ROCK!

Is the Music Over for Madonna and Her Guy?

o.k. I’m sorry. My best to her. Thanks…

Is the Music Over for Madonna and Her Guy?

Look like giving…how about this thought is so far away from my mind, I’d pay more attention to a gnat. Frank, have you heard from Mugsy? I’ve been looking? Is she ill again?

What motivates you more: criticism or praise?

Honesty with the ability to learn and grow more in what I am doing.

Fallen Patriots: A wowOwow Salute to 110 Fallen Female Soldiers

I’ve been wondering where you were myself. I’m not as tuned in as every one else. I forgot about Sontag…hmmm. Here’s that you are feeling better. Truly I do hope so. Best to you.

Fallen Patriots: A wowOwow Salute to 110 Fallen Female Soldiers

Having worked with and among the women of the military for numerous years, I know the strength, fortitude, dedication and outright tremendous sense of humor they possess. They were some of our first working mothers. That balanced bivuoac and breast feeding, Survival/Notification Assistance Officers/Personnel and dinner on the table, rifle calibration, death with those ugly maternity bdu’s (daily uniform) and the precious lives within. Soldiers suck it up and move out, but mommy loves and honey has to give a kiss. Then the other side who packs up when it’s time to move on and clear quarters, who stays behind if only one can go (the higher or lower rank if both are in the military) and if not, does the other truly understand what a woman truly holds. Have to be prepared to shoot or be killed. Yet, we’re supposed to be the more compassionate? I learned so much. Women from all over the world in some instances, shapes, sizes, colors. They cannot be praised enough.

Ann Coulter's Birthday Wish for Bush (and a Michael-Moore-Free Definition of Patriotism)

Miss Coulter. I’m going to take a page from our President and opt not to read the article. When I logged on…as our mother’s would and some of our mother’s still say” close your mouth, you’re gawking!” However, I took this as a miserable opportunity to go back to a question, “What was the most dangerous thing you ever did?” An issue I will most likely fight my entire life as it was caused my permanent disability. It took me back to thoughts of leadership. Facing, listening, Miss Coulter as one day I will run into my incident causers. My first incident 3 years ago did not go well. I’ve seen people throw pies at Coulter. I recall one quiet morning on Washington Journal (C-Span) OMG! Not so quiet afterwards! Campus heat last year, listening to Chris Matthews the Mrs. Edwards incident. Many of you could help me go on and on. The thing is, that this is why she should not be excluded from this venue. In my world I am never going to run into this woman, any other women like her or the men equate to her politic. How many of us will? But what we all will run across are the thousands that listen on the radio or buy the books and their rage. We have to not let rage equate rage.Nor should anyone sit with that passive sickening smile. It is so hard to take the higher ground, when all we all want to do is just (fill in your own blank), but everyone on this masthead created our site for us all to become better. To become stronger, to get a better sense of “I know you’re an idiot, but somewhere there’s common ground and we’ve got to find it.” I hope my words are not getting lost because right now, I’m sobbing because we’ve just got too much to do people…too much. Haters are always going to hate, they suck the air. I’m not wanting to attack anyone because that’s the distraction. That’s the diversion. When ever you hear it, it’s a scam. Leaders always blow right through. Our Independence Day is upon us. Let us all focus on next year. Our blessings to our troops, our loved ones and our beautiful country.

Nobody, Including Barack Obama Himself, Expected It

It is a computer term. The programming. What I don’t remember is if it’s bits, bytes 0’s 1’s. That is where the name of the company comes from. Thanks for your punchy prose. Thanks to everyone. I enjoy reading so and reading makes the mind think and thinking brings on so many possibilities.

It's Viktor and Rolf For Sheila Nevins

Since Flowerbomb is their only, I knew exactly the scent. I love them both. The Special Dark bottle I rarely wear. Sometimes, when I just not up in spirits I pick up that bottle and I just take a deep inhale and I smile. Dior Addict (not the new light version — rasberry makes me to unmentionalbe things). The V&R is the BOMB by all means. I wore Cinema before that. The winter can bring on a change in scents/ Certain things smell so crisp with our winter air.
