What was your favorite book (or books) as a child?

Any and all books by L.M. Montgomery.  I especially loved Anee Shirley because she was so human and real - NOT perfect!  Beyond that believe it or not any good mystery.  I fell in love with Agatha Christie and Conan Doyle first and re-read them continuously!

Joan Ganz Cooney: The Downside of Doing Your Best Thinking at Night

Now there’s a really great thought - a plug in my head!  Sure wish I could empty the mind so I could relax and get to bed most nights!  Though it may seem silly, I really wish there were such possibilities Janet.

Joan Ganz Cooney: The Downside of Doing Your Best Thinking at Night

Joan,

You and I are much more alike that I thought!  When I write, much more gets done (and done well!) late into the night.  I use to think it was because there were no interuptions (No phones ringing, kids yelling, etc.) but now I believe it is simply because I think better at night!

As we approach Sesame Street's 40th birthday, tell us: What is your favorite memory of Sesame Street?

Kermie created many of the best memories for my sons and I over the years.  Sesame Street was the first fun program for kids and adults in my opinion!  It always hit on many levels and love, and the love of learning are at its center.

Joan Ganz Cooney's Greatest Moment Happened 11/10/69

I have so many favorites.  My oldest son was born in 1972 and we sat so many mornings together laughing and learning.  I made more Cookie Monster and Big Bird birthday cakes than I can remember.  I was, and am passionate about that program!

Joan Ganz Cooney: 'The Milkman Delivered in a Horse-Drawn Cart'

I am not quite of that generation, but we did have a milkman that use to come in a small truck with our milk bottles!

I agree  with most who have written here about this - Diplomacy is created from the respect and we show other countries.  The respect of not defying the important norms of other countries, but making a comfortable atmosphere for dialog is where good nation to nation relationship is developed.

Any relationship must first begin with a respect for cultural and religious beliefs.

Driving skills? Handwriting? What do you find is the strongest indicator of someone's personality?

Not just driving skills - the lack of knowing that a person shares the road with people who have a right to be there as well.  The rage found on the road these days has its roots in a lack of respect for others and a driving force for the me and my rights part of all our natures.

It’s Monday…again!  UGH!

Fall Books (That'll Get You Going This Autumn), Recommends by Roxanne J. Coady

I am looking to begin the new book by Rhoda Janzen, Mennonite in a Little Black Dress : A Memoir of Going Home.

Considering Layaway Options for Holiday Shopping?

I sure miss when almost every store in our area had layaway for the holidays - beginning in July!  I guess that dates me, but it was how I could get great presents for my sons with no interest charges (using credit cards), or lost interest (as in those infamous Christmas Club accounts!).

If you had to choose a theme song for your life, which would it be?

Billy Joel, "You’re Only Human."

Just like a boxer in a title fight
You got to walk in that ring all alone
You’re not the only one who’s made mistakes
But they’re the only thing that you can truly call your own

Don’t forget your second wind
Wait in that corner until that breeze blows in

You’ve been keeping to yourself these days
Cause you’re thinking everything’s gone wrong
Sometimes you just want to lay down and die
That emotion can be so strong
But hold on

Till that old second wind comes along…..

One Reason Joan Ganz Cooney Doesn't Encourage Concentrating on Two Things at Once

Trying this again _

In my opinion, there is no true multitasking.  Tossing many balls in the air and trying to keep them there is not easy and just saying we can multi anything well doesn’t make it happen.  It’s not that it cannot be done - just nothing gets done well.  After working at it, and observing others I see that it is another of the falsehoods propagated by those who do not want to hire another worker.
