Liz Smith: Whoopi's Iconic Persona

Murphy, I agree!  Whoopi is one cool lady!  The View has wobbled and almost fallen from my radar with some of the people they’ve brought in to host.  What this lady has is a genuineness that is so refreshing, and an honesty that is not simply out to gain ratings!  her honesty isn’t out to hurt others where some people in the Hollywood mode enjoy the hype no matter the cost to others.

How old were you when you first got married?

I married my first and only husband in my twenties and I have not looked back.  We’ve grown through some hard times and are still working on us what we have.  That’s the best part is we both work through the things that pop up right then and there.

What woman or women do you consider to be the media's rising stars, and why?

Like Lesley, Mika Brzezinski has been someone I’ve watched and enjoyed for sometime.  I use to stay up really late just to see her take on the news on CBS late nights!  

Do you think Jackie Kennedy and Bobby Kennedy had an affair?

I don’t think it is any of our business.

Who, in your opinion, is the most physically beautiful woman you've ever laid eyes on in person?

I agree with Candice, Nigella is one - but so is the lovely Candice!

Wow!  Those are truly breathtaking!  I have always wanted to do Alaska and those are great pictures!  But honestly I think I would NOT want to take my suit along on a trip like that! ;-)  (The wilderness and glacier shots are beautiful!)

How do you feel in a swimsuit now? In the book of 'Bathing Suit Chronicles,' how does your chapter read?

Pere Marquette is great for canoeing but a bit rough usually for tubing.  The Pine is also a bit rough but if you’re looking for a good tubing river the Besty Rive is great!

 As to the ‘squitos, it doesn’t matter how slathered I am with bug repellant they seem to know that I am a tasty treat!  I tend to stay away from the out doors a little before dusk until morning.

Read that article in the GR Press about that!  We’ve never done the Big Muskegon, I think we’ll have to take the plunge after your recommendation!

Yes I’ve been out…but only once!  We use to go tubing on the Muskegon and also went out in our ancient aluminium canoe too.  The mosquitoes have driven me in these days - they’re terrible this year!  Have you ever done the Pine or the Pere Marquette Rivers?

I just put on my suit and head into the water!  It’s a simple one piece and I’m not there to capture attention, simply to enjoy the water!

What is your traveling personality?

Me too, Linda!  My husband hates that since everything has to be planned out before, well beofre we leave!
