Constitution in the fireplace, Bush in the portrait (or a more recognizable Bush), and McCain wearing an old uniform that no longer fits. Maybe a burka for Cindy, because she tries to stay out of the limelight when she is not campaigning. Patton might make a portrait alternative.

This reminds me of something Johnny Carson once said about bad jokes: “If you have to explain it, it didn’t work.”
I also took offense at the use of Norman Rockwell type artwork. It was a stain on someone elses commentary style.
What kind of reaction would there be if it had been Ann Coulter/Rush Limbaugh on a Fox News set? At some point, you just get tired of all the divisiveness.

As presented, without caption or explanation, whether it condemns or reinforces the caricatures portrayed is in the mind of the beholder.
Just by appearing on the cover, it will look out from newsstands and web sites severed from the New Yorker’s message. Inside the cover, it is legitimate satire. On the cover, it is throwing gasoline on an incendiary situation.
