Marlo Thomas Is More Than Just 'That Girl.' On Her Birthday, 10 Things You Must Know About This Fabulous Woman

A very Happy Birthday to you, Marlo. I’ve always loved your work ethic and your decency. You’re a good person who sends out love. Your beautiful inside shows on your timeless outside. I will never forget the episode of Donahue! when you and Mr. Donahue connected right before our eyes. I am not surprised you two have been happily married all these years. You both are an inspiration.

Mother Earth Care-toon: Spotting Todd Palin

Ms. Wagner, that cartoon is priceless. I’m glad I had put my coffee down before I read the caption! As a side note, I watched Nashville the other night and was once again mesmerized by Lily’s performance. She should have gotten the Oscar. Both of you, your talent grows over the years.

Too right, Countrywoman, I do the same.

Liz Smith: In Bed With the Silent Type

Liz, sometimes those strong, silent types are the best to spend great moments in history with.

Where were you the moment you heard Obama won the election?

I was here, on Wow, on the phone with one of my friends, emailing people, watching TV. I was afraid it would be another all night thing and when it was called, right after the polls closed out here in the west, I was filled with joy as I have never been before. I never thought in my lifetime and all the work, all the donations all the faith it took, there it was: a great moment in history, in my lifetime. Clutching my dog and one of my cats, we huddled in front of the TV, watching the Grant Park crowd. Every now and then, a tear or two would travel down my cheeks as I thought of my early youth and the years the Kennedys died and MLK. I wanted them to know we didn’t let the dream die. As long as I live, I will never forget what I was doing when JFK was killed, MLK or Bobby Kennedy. But that night, the night Barack Obama was elected, will shine forever for me as a triumph for this country. My wish is that all of us work with him in the years to come to form this more perfect union.

We dream, but we are not dreamers. We pay attention to the price of milk and we pay attention to how many loose coins we have in our pocketbooks. We know when milk is more than we can afford, we will do just fine drinking tap water. Michelle Obama, True or False: Paris Couture? Hair Extensions?

Michelle Obama doesn’t need anyone to tell her how to dress or do her hair and make up. She has her own style and it is simple, strong and elegant.

I think you’re right to do this. I feel me must all refuse to listen to such talk. It’s no secret I was for Mr. Obama; however, had Senator McCain been successful, there is no way I would have said horrible things about him or incited negativity. I knew the night of the election that if it had not gone the way I wanted, I would find a way to be a part of the solution, not more of the problem, despite my disappointment. It’s too bad others can’t be that way. Hopefully, if we all do our part not to let this hateful behavior flourish, the mindset of this nation will move away from such negativity.

I’m embarrassed to say that there is a good deal of that going on in my neck of the woods. We’re near the north Idaho border where one man thinks it’s free speech to have a noose up and a sign reading Public Hanging. I simply cannot wrap my mind around such ignorance and such unwillingness to see that times have changed and we must move forward. It scares me for Mr. Obama and I hope the SS is as dedicated to their jobs as they will need to be. You would think if people took the time we did last night to listen to Mr. Obama and see the dedication he expresses, they would have to accept he will do his best. Yet look at the fundamental differences even here on how some people are just dead set against him and refuse to give the man a chance to do what he intends to do. I’m left with the feeling some people just like being negative.

Mr. Obama has a fine, organized mind; he is a brilliant manager. Once he assembles his team, I feel they will be industrious at digging us out of this mess. I like how firm he can be; not easily swayed, yet funny. He is aware there is a great deal to accomplish and he is dedicated to the hard work ahead. He and Mrs. O are a delight to watch; warm, friendly, thoughtful and wonderful parents. I wish they would adopt me. LOL

Should Malia and Sasha Obama go to public school or private school?

The decision is up to Mr. Obama and Mrs. O, I say. My concern is for the girls’ safety. But I feel that way about all children. I want all American children to have the best education possible and have them be safe while being educated.

Comedian Wanda Sykes Comes Out Swinging Against Prop 8, Declares She's Married to a Woman

Wanda Sykes is in my opinion the one who has taken on George Carlin’s position. She uses humor to get very serious points across and I adore her. She’s beautiful in every way and one of the funniest people alive. her honesty and willingness to stand up is going to be a galvanizing event. I am with you, Wanda.

Barack Hussein Obama Wins Historic Election; Will Become 44th President of The United States of America

Okpulot posted: “This is not a prudent investment plan. Your money is losing dollar value on a daily basis because of inflation. At the end of this year, your mattress money will be worth less than last year; less purchasing power.” Well, you know what, if socialism does steal every one’s money, I’ll still have my hidden cash, along with my easily transported stash of loose diamonds. I have made it a habit not to involve any government institution access to my funds, nosirreee. That will give me plenty of purchasing power. Not to worry. I am like you, I live within my means and I drive a perfectly good, serviceable car that’s older but gets 35 miles to a gallon. But thank you for caring about my retirement. And since I take a medication that does not allow me to have any white lightning, I will lift my Mason jar filled with cranberry juice and we can toast for a good evening to be had by all.

Gee, Frank, you might want to check on the white sheets in the dryer, you don’t want them to get too wrinkled.

Besides, I do not drink from a glass; I am a savage Indian who squats then drinks from the stream of life.” And how is all this working for you? Honestly, you criticize so quickly about Rainbow Power dealing in non realities, what does your above metaphor conjure? You really think the stock market would be soaring had the election gone your way? I thought you were all for reality and truth. The truth of the matter is the stock market/our economy is going to take more than a little time to build back up again. And how much is my 401(k) account worth on this Mr. Rogers day? Why, I’m an old fashioned kid, I keep my money in my mattress or hidden in a hole somewhere. And I don’t drink out of glasses either. I drink out of Mason canning jars because they’re cheaper than glasses and serve several purposes. That said, I choose to see my Mason canning jar half full. I like to be hopeful. I and the rest of this country have already been through enough domestic terrorism for the past eight years. Now excuse me. I have to go out and put a bridle on my unicorn and go for a ride.
