wOw's Views on the News: Is Rev. Wright Leading to the Demise of the Obama Campaign?

I dunno, Elizabeth! Anyone who could come up with ‘vomitrocious’ can’t be all bad.

Don’t think Obama disavowed anybody, Burke, let alone the Rev. Wright. I think Wright was horrified at what happened with his sound bites. I think he had a right to be angry. Sure he, like most people, was not used to the media blitz’. However, I also think he let his ego and his anger (maybe even angry disposition) take precedence over all else. Can’t admire a person who can’t shut up for the common good. I’m not counting Obama out, but it was really stupid for Rev. Wright to take such a chance of gumming things up. It’s a mess for not very good reasons. I’d like to see us take a count — Obama or Clinton n our site here. I think the Obama crowd would win, but not totally sure. Onward Christian soldier — everyone that is, but Rev. Wright. :):):)

What Bill Clinton and Ms. Lewinsky did in the Oval office was no business of the nation. Although must admit I’m not to happy that he dallied in my Oval Office. Get a room! Nonetheless, another parcel of jokers I will never forgive is those damned Christian Right Republicans who wasted two years of valueable political time on hot house ‘schluck’, especially since so many of those ‘good’ men, like Gingrich, were doing the very same thing. The president and the nation should have been battling national problems instead of having to fend off a noisy bunch of half-grown ‘little’ boys. 911 may never have happened had not everyone been distracted by this nonsense. Incidentally, think we have a lot to thank Hillary Clinton for in that she could have marched off to the divorce lawyer the very next morning, which would have left the nation in even more turmoil.

I think Obama did show his strength of character by continuing to see Wright as an old family friend and mentor, who had invested in him for many years and was, therefore, not expendable the first time around. Backing off the second time around when Wright, without question, reasons unknown (to us), basically undermined Obama by labeling him as ‘just a politician’ also made sense. I thought Wright’s speech was interesting and colorful — somewhat entertaining. The man had some points and he had a lot of information about a lot of things — modern and biblical —to produce data for his reasoning. I did wonder when he made the ‘just a politician’ remark about Obama, but shrugged and said: “He has to be speaking with Obama’s backing”. Obviously he wasn’t. Add that to the remarks about AIDS and the government and he lost me. Those remarks were crazy and crazy making, possibly the thinking of someone intent on stirring up trouble over anything else. Sad! However, I see Obama’s behaviour on both these occasions as exemplary and right on. I believe Barack Obama will behave in precisely this wise, straight forward way when dealing with the complicated machinations that have to go on in the White House — 2:00 p.m. or 3:00 a.m. The person who can do this is the person I want in my White House. I want thoughtful, sound recognition and understanding of the issues and circumstances with values in mind when making complicated decisions about and for the country. A president focusing just on what is ‘politically expedient’ can’t do that.

Yep, Mugsy, I, too, say Go Hillary —- GO HILLARY, FAR, FAR WAY! :):)):):)

Emcye, if what you say about Rev Wright being the Clinton’s counselor when they were having difficulty is true, OH MY GOD! Where did you hear this? That’s a bundle of TNT, for sure.

I dunno, Kitty. Think we have to be careful of the ‘rational basis’ for opinions. Think ‘rationality’ is wide open for suspicion at almost every turn. Takes a lot of thinking to be truly ‘rational’.

Country Woman, I think this ‘holy’ espisode ‘may’ indeed interfere with Obama’s campaign for president. I find Americans very gullible when it comes to language/definition/words tacked onto any given issue. And, there are those who understand this power of language who also have a serious absence of character/integrity/authenticity/honesty when using that power. Karl Rove and buddies come to mind. Note: Senator Max Clelland (sp), who was in a wheel chair minus arms and legs from Vietnam, who lost his senate seat because ‘they’ said — he’s not ‘patriotiic’. Who dumped the word ‘elitist’ on Obama?? ‘Elitist’??? Obama is anything but ‘elitist. Then we have the Kerry “Swiftboat’ thing and Papa Bush’s ‘Willie Horton’, etc., etc. Americans strike me as being frighteningly influenced by words and definitons that anyone can toss around just for the heck of it. I would hope that all of us would do our own thinking, but we don’t.

Honest folks, I CAN write better than this. Guess I’ll have to ‘preview’ more before I speak. Zorri!

LM, do I ever disagree with you. If all a politician ‘understands’ is politics )and in my view, that is part of our problem) and all religious people, such as the pope, ‘understands’ inderstand religion then we’d be in bigger trouble than we are now in. I think Obama ‘understands’ the world and human beings very well. I see him as a very mature human being in the ways that are currently missing from American, which is why I’m supporting him.

Oh, Lizzie. The Pope is not running for President of the good ole USA, he’s just trying to run the Catholic Church. Would U vote for the Pope for president>

Tis true, Mugsy! Farm life will do that for you. Pretty sure Mrs. O’Leary’s feather bed was from her chickens, too. Me, I am ever so grateful for the United Market, a local super super market. Their chickens are defeathered.

Thanx, AB. What kind, thoughtful words for us. Right now I am working heartily on living a good life with the best we have — an ignoble TBI. Appreciate your supportive comments.
