Hey Lady Gator ……. You and Kitty have made my week! As for the storm, well let’s just say that the local surfers were quite disappointed by the lack of wave action beyond yesterday afternoon. It’s all mush now, as they put it. It is unfortunate however, that a 19 year old man is still missing from yesterday. He and another young man were being dare-devils and walked out to the end of the South Jetty at Packery Channel. Two others went out there as well to get them back in. All four were pulled off the jetty by the surge, and thus far only three were rescued safely. I’m waiting for the local news to come on for an update. I sadly believe that one young man has perished.

Hello Lady Gator! Here we find ourselves again ……… I am glad to know that your fairing well. It is unfortunate to be held captive by storms. We know all too well how bad they can be. As for Ike …. it has nowhere else to go but on land. I am thankful that it looks to be north of Corpus Christi, but I am quite concerned for those in it’s path. Sandbee ……… you are in my prayers ….. be safe and let us know how you are doing when you can.

Hi Kitty! I’ve been taking a bit of a break…..lot’s of stuff on my plate as of late. I did post a little on a couple of the Gov. Palin threads; as you might imagine, I was less than enchanted with the lack of productive dialog. As for the hurricane, we are in Corpus Christi … we’re all boarded up, the RV is loaded, fueled and ready to head south if Ike decides to not turn to the north. It does seam odd that we are still in the warning area, but given the history Hurricane Celia in 1970, we are remaining cautious. We are accustomed to 40-50 mph winds in this area. We just came back from driving around the area. Our local beach (North Padre Island) where the gulf is churning, we have 12 -15ft swells. Downtown on the bay, it is quite calm but the water level is rising rapidly. We live about 3 miles inland from the bay and are 7ft above sea level. Thanks for asking …….. Linda

Thanks Serena ……. we are just about ready for Mr. Ike ……… we are staying put for a bit longer to gather more details. If it looks to be coming ashore as a Cat 3 or more and within 50 miles north of Corpus Christi, then we will head south in the RV to ride it out.

An individual, for whom many here have clearly stated that they know so little about her ……. and yet, she is being perceived as a waitress, that wears drugstore cosmetics, carries a gun, and is a thoughtless mom ……… I could go on and on. As a 46 year old women, well versed in government/politics, a gun owner, a mom, a working-class citizen, as someone who prefers to wear my hair up in a clip ……… I will do my homework before I inundate this or any other thread with my opinion. I know that I openly extended my congratulations to the Obama/Biden ticket immediately after hearing the news. Hello to all ………. It is quite disparaging to know that Jenny’s suffering is secondary to the will of an entity. The Zoo and the City Council have publicly stated that a potential move would cause Jenny too much stress ……….. Two years of stressful conditions while a new habitat is built DOES NOT equate to the minimal stress that she MIGHT encounter if she was moved to the Tennessee Sanctuary. I say ………… “Let Jenny go! Build your new habitat, then move forward to acquire the younger elephants and giraffes that have already been planned for. Stop using Jenny’s situation as a ploy for financial gain!”

Good Evening Phyllis! Do I dare ask Blockbuster if that movie is available for rent? hee, hee …….. I jokingly say that because I do not fit into the sleeve of “everything Republican” …….. there is so much that I disagree with. Gay Rights and Abortion are the two main issues that come to mind that I am NOT IN AGREEMENT with. A fair assessment would be a 50/50 split between Democrat and Republican. Does that make me an Independent by default …….. no, not by a long shot. In my humble view, for an Independent Party to succeed in the political climate that we’ve all been complicit in creating; we “all” would have to be truly willing to rise above the “pettiness that IS politics”. It seems to have digressed to that of a high school click. I for one, am a results driven person. But that’s not to say that the end result justifies the means. Win at all costs or go home does not resonate with me.
