Nancy Pelosi: 'I Stand By My Comment' That CIA 'Misled' Congress on Waterboarding

Oh kudos to you, Phyllis, for possessing the highly endangered ability to comprehend, what you read. You are exactly right!

well this is weird. When I saw your post earlier, it appeared not a response to my post, but to S.J. Morgan’s silly post Cheney “has forgotten more than Obama knows”. which my post encapsulated beautifully, as in ‘old man yells at cloud’

I am going to assume that you are talking to S.J. Because it pleases me to think that.

Deborah kramer, what I find a little baffling about these posts of yours is that they seem to be terribly inconsistent. I refer you to your posts to HA BIBI and how much you look forward to

reading her such a gift with words, you truely do. A sissy man he is, but I will be nice and not say how I really feel about that loser crook! Have a great night and thank you again for your great posts!! “

And yet she is one of the most ‘know it all’, rigid, rude, tacky posters on here. She, you find delightful and entertaining.

Your moral superiority rings hollow. You don’t spread the blame around. Your derision and ridicule, which is quite substantial, is saved for the Liberal posters and this Democratic administration, which has been in power for just 4 months.

You deal with people sarcastically , you judge people. you lump them together and you call them names :

Liberals for the most part are Such Hypocrites!”

But when you don’t like the way someone deals with you, you climb on your moral soapbox, highly offended and look your nose down on them.

This whole exchange started because you showed not one whit of respect for Diana’s post.

If you can’t take, I suggest you stop dishing it.

That is the funniest thing I have ever read!

You’re a screech! Ha haha ha ha ha Ha!

I just went and found what you wrote. Cool! Perhaps we will get a response. I hope so, cause I sure don’t understand what Peggy meant.

And thanks. I actually came to read what Diana wrote and stayed to write myself!

Waving,

Deni

Why thank you!

And it is true, we do have a rather fabulous sense of humor. They say that is a sign being highly evolved.

ahhh evolution! Ain’t it grand?!

Peggy, I am confused by this statement:

He would have moved more quickly by enacting legislation that would keep the crisis from unraveling as fast as it did.”

At what point would he have moved? The financial crisis and the bailouts ensued under his watch. He could have “moved quickly” at any point.

He claimed in January 2009, that “the economy, …the difficulties … have developed in the financial markets over the last six months.” Which is of course, ridiculous. And Dick was nowhere to be found or heard on the subject, even during those 6 months.

He was however moving his own money, as early as 3 years ago. So remarkable were his investments, that in 2006 articles were published asking “Is Cheney Betting On Economic Collapse?”

So… what you are saying makes no sense to me.

The facts dispute your opinion.

Using the pseudonym Matthew Alexander, an Air Force senior interrogator who was in Iraq in 2006 wrote:

I learned in Iraq that the No. 1 reason foreign fighters flocked there to fight were the abuses carried out at Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo. Our policy of torture was directly and swiftly recruiting fighters for al-Qaeda in Iraq. The large majority of suicide bombings in Iraq are still carried out by these foreigners. They are also involved in most of the attacks on U.S. and coalition forces in Iraq. It’s no exaggeration to say that at least half of our losses and casualties in that country have come at the hands of foreigners who joined the fray because of our program of detainee abuse. The number of U.S. soldiers who have died because of our torture policy will never be definitively known, but it is fair to say that it is close to the number of lives lost on Sept. 11, 2001. How anyone can say that torture keeps Americans safe is beyond me — unless you don’t count American soldiers as Americans.

On June 10, 2008, Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on “coercive interrogation techniques,” retired FBI special agent John Cloonan — who stated that he has interrogated members of Al Qaeda — asserted that such techniques have “helped to recruit a new generation of jihadist martyrs”

Alexander, along with Air Force interrogator Steven Kleinman, also wrote in March that President Obama’s ban on torture “will enhance the country’s security by undermining Al Qaeda’s most effective recruiting theme.”

Uh.. his heart condition is a product of aging. He did not have a heart condition when he received his 5 deferments. He was fully able.

During Vietnam, between “1963 and ‘65, Cheney used his student status at Casper College and the University of Wyoming to apply for and receive four 2-S draft deferments. …Twenty-two days after Congress approved the Gulf of Tonkin resolution in August 1964, raising the prospect of a rapid expansion of the draft, he …married Lynne, which added a level of exemption or “hardship” status to exemptions. But the war continued to expand and the Selective Service eliminated special protections for childless married men, October 26, 1965.

Cheney applied for and received 3-A status on January l9, 1966, when Lynne was in the first trimester of her pregnancy. Nine months after the Selective Service eliminated special protections for childless married men, Elizabeth was born on July 28, 1966.

Twenty-three years later, when Cheney appeared before the Senate to plead the case for his confirmation as George Herbert Walker Bush’s Defense Secretary, he was questioned about his failure to serve. Cheney responded never served because of deferments to finish a college career that lasted six years rather than four, which he attributed to subpar academic performance and the fact that he had to work to pay for his education.

He added that he “that he “would have obviously been happy to serve had I been called.”

I do not begrudge him his deferments. It is this ‘I’m so tough and so patriotic and you aren’t’, that I find ridiculous. He claims if we don’t torture, we will be attacked. That it is none of the higher ups, none of the important, administrative people who are at fault. It is the fault of sadistic soldiers. I find no admiration for this sort of cowardly rhetoric.

John Kerry did not have other priorities during the Vietnam War. Nor did John McCain,Gen. Colin Powell, Gen. Jim Jones, Gen. Wes Clark, nor Jim Webb. “These warriors - and so many others - strongly oppose the use of torture. “

While some people are roundly trashing the first 4 months of the Obama administration, I suggest taking a close look at the first 8 months of the Bush/Cheney administration, during which they refused repeatedly to heed the impending threat of terrorism.

5 deferments from military service. On the grounds that he was married. Very brave, very self-sacrificing for his country. Yes I can see it. Really. I just have to squint funny.

Tell the enemy? I believe the enemy is quite aware of the things we did. After all Bush released 2/3 of them. I think they probably mentioned what went on. It seems we are the only ones who remain unaware.

The enemy tells their converts we are hypocrites, that we only pretend to have strong values. By treating people worse than animals, we have reinforced those arguments.

It was not a deterrent. It was the enemies greatest recruiting tool.

If we are so weak, that first we torture, then we stick our heads in the sand, whimpering and whining about the terrible things are going to happen, then we are truly a pathetic people.

I happen to think we are a stronger, much better people, than that.

There is no defense for torture. It is unethical, and immoral. It is practiced by the depraved, the weak, the cowardly, the souless. It is the hallmark of despots and sadists. It is Un-American. Period.
