I was six years old too Chrome Toe. This event would be one of our earliest memories from childhood. And this memory was a puzzle for me because I thought I was in a classroom watching it with other kids. But I discovered that it could have been a later mission that I watched at school. Like you, I have no memory of this event; I guess my parents weren’t interested in the space program.
However my earliest T. V. memory was the year before. It was watching my favorite cartoon, "Hercules" the Sunday after Dr. King was assassinated. I recall mommy being upset, preparing to go to church and a weird sense of sadness.

Who, in your opinion, is the most physically beautiful woman you've ever laid eyes on in person?
Hey Kelly, thank you for the compliment. No, Lena is my self-given nickname. I created it to counter my family nickname of "Leanie". Couldn’t have the kids in high school calling me that— rhymes with "weenie" or "beenie" lol!
And you are right Lena Horne is a great songtress and great beauty. I was out shopping today and heard one of her tunes on public radio. No one mentions it much, but Lena Horne is one of the African Americans who broke the color barrier in entertainment in the 30’s and 40’s. She is a legend.
It’s nice talking to you today—I hope the weather is nice in your piece of Texas heaven.
Who, in your opinion, is the most physically beautiful woman you've ever laid eyes on in person?
My homage is to the women who showed me that I too am beautiful. Being born in the south in the 60’s, there weren’t many faces to mirror mine in the mass media but the ones who did –oh how they did shine!
Lola Falana, Judy Pace, Diahann Carroll, Vonetta McGee, Pam Grier, Diana Ross, Eartha Kitt, Leslie Uggams and yes Cicely Tyson. These women personified the diverse, powerful and amazing beauty of the Black woman.
But none of them can compare to the most beautiful woman that I know. My mommy Brenda Lee was and still is a stunning, unpretentious, natural beauty. I thank her for the great genetics and for showing me that an open and loving heart reveals the greatest beauty of all.

I wasn’t lecturing you or being condescending…only you know if you are angry. A wise person told me "You don’t see things the way they are; you see things the way YOU are". I never make assumptions about motives—humans are much too complex. I’m just engaging in a discussion. I’m submitting my personal journey of self acceptance— a slow painful process. And that curiosity is natural, expected and should be encouraged.
After all why would I even dare to enter this discussion when I’m bald?
Because I’m an expansive thinker Sister L.C. I consider as many angles as I can because I can. I also read and try to understand the views of others even if I don’t agree. If you were offended, you misunderstood me. And I always expect to be misunderstood because my communication as well as your understanding is censored by personal beliefs. Since I began posting on this site, I’ve addressed every known female as "Sister". But I guess I’m lecturing again…sorry.
By the way, I enjoy your passionate responses. We are very much alike in that regard.
