Study: Certain Moisturizers Speed Up, Boost Skin Cancer Growth

JCM - cup your hand and put alittle olive oil in the palm, add about 1/2 tsp of granulated sugar (the only thing I use that poison for) and rub together. Then wash your face with it - not to hard or the sugar will scratch your skin. When you are done (I quit when I feel my skin tingle) rinse off all the sugar and towel dry. The residue olive oil leaves your skin baby soft. Believe it or not I have had compliments on my skin since I started doing this years ago. I do not go out in the sun without a big hat because of vitiligo so I am not sure that the olive oil won’t bake your skin.

Heard a wise old man years ago say that you should never put anything on your body that you wouldn’t eat. (Goes along with chips ahoey’s statement). Anyway - haven’t used anything for years except olive oil and sugar. Makes a great face wash for these old pores and leaves my skin baby soft. Also use only natural soaps and shampoos. The only thing I haven’t found is a natural deoderant - tried the oatmeal home mix but doesn’t work when it gets in the 90’s and up. Quit dying my hair, using make up (except liner), don’t use polish, etc., and you would not believe how much time this saves when I get ready to go somewhere. Life is alot easier, cheaper, and less scarey without all that crap.

phyllis - don’t you think doing John Stamos would be ‘nice’? LOL

Are you more comfortable with your body now than you were 20 years ago?

I have had some kind of pain most of my life from one thing or another, so the pains of aging haven’t seemed any different to me. But I have noticed that since I take better care of myself I get sick less often and actually feel better most of the time. I was always so busy taking care of other people I never paid much attention to what I ate or did. I also find that my negative outlook on my body seems to be fading. I can stand naked in front of a mirror (never would 20 years ago) and say with a straight face - ‘ain’t bad for an old broad’. (of course I do this without my glasses :)

I always admire women that use what they have. And she has it all.

wOw's Comments of the Week 8/9 - 8/15

Love comments of the week because sometimes I miss some of these gems. Kudos to you all.

Who cares? Madonna, her family, her friends, and all us nosey ol’ broads that like to compare ages of other women.

Life in the Little Lane: Edith Ann on Messes

I, too, make a big mess when I cook. I think it was Gandhi or Winnie The Pooh that said you can’t make an omlet without breaking an egg. I take that to mean sometimes things have to be messy before they can be good. Or maybe it means you have to break something to make something else - - - I really don’t know what it means but it is something I say all the time ‘cause I heard my mom say it.

Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi Wedding: Cougar Catch of the Week

I can only wish them both the best. Love does not happen often and when it does you should grab it with both hands.

Life in the Little Lane: Edith Ann on Messes

Edith Ann - I think if people would stop touching other people’s stuff there wouldn’t be any messes. That includes us kids - so if we will all just leave other people’s stuff alone we won’t get into trouble.

I don’t think that any of us that use makeup, hair dye, polish, support bras, etc. can say anything about what another woman does. I can tell you, if I had the money and wasn’t so hung up on the pain of it, I would have several things done. While I have been blessed with good genes, at 62 there is nothing I wouldn’t do to get rid of the wrinkles around my mouth that use to be big dimples. (Except go under the knife - because I am chicken) Wasn’t it Candice that said ‘we are too hard on each other’? Have to admit that I don’t like the after looks of most of the face lifts that I have seen. This I wouldn’t do because it looks so plastic. If Madonna has a few nips and tucks or not, she still looks great and is an ace performer.

'Thank You, Jesus': Preacher's Wife Found Not Guilty of Assault

There needs to be a special board that decisions what cases actually get to go before a judge and jury. What a waste of time. (Of course I say that until I have a good case against someone of wealth - then I might sing a different tune - - - - - - - - just teasing :)

In Africa Women Who Can't Get Pregnant Are Called 'Useless'

I often find it strange that women of our generation seemed so outraged by stories like this. It was not that long ago when the feeling was the same in our own country. Women were considered chattel and were often seen as useless if they could not bare a “son”. I can still remember hearing family members talking about ‘poor Uncle Russ’, who had five daughters and no son. And this was in the fifties and sixties. While it is a horrible situation, let’s not act like we as a country didn’t have to outgrow the same attitude.

Liz Answers wOw Critics of the John and Elizabeth Edwards Story

Liz - thank you so much for your comments. I have always wondered why someone would take the time to TYPE ‘who cares’. I find lots of articles that don’t really interest me so I don’t even bother to read them. Have to admit that I find lots that do interest me and someone else has voiced my opinion better than I could so I just don’t bother posting. You just keep ‘dishing the dirty’ for us nosey ol’ broads. I also appreciate the fact that you don’t comment on stories until you know facts - even if you don’t know for sure you state that fact, just to let us know what is being said.
