Liz Smith on Hillary: 'A Lot of Obama's Supporters Would Just Die if He Chose Her'

An era is ending where narcissitically voting ONLY for someone who looks like your reflection in the mirror — is all there is to choose from. I am hoping our Asian, South Asian and Native American friends step up to the plate — inspired by the example of Latinos and African-Americans’ willingness to put themselves on the line and deal w/the blowback. We need you all!!! Let’s go!!!

You’d be surprised how many people like BOTH JayZ and the Black Eyed Peas, worldwide. Bet THEY could help Hillary Clinton raise the money to pay off her debt. She can’t.

George Will also said the vote for the Iraq War would spread prosperity and pay for itself….

Michelle Obama is a REAL modern feminist. Americans will see. HRC is positioning to frame herself as the leader of a huge feminist majority, but her isolating women of color of every persuasion — reflected in her inability to raise enough to cover her bills — represents the older version that pits itself AGAINST others. The Obamas are FOR consensus and focusing on what we share. Better model. Modern model. The young KNOW this. Younger boomer women are with them. We understand older women and “hard working, very hard working…white Americans” are not. We respect their choice, but their nos. are diminishing every day. Progress and the natural order of things.

French Heart - We too, in the People’s Republic of New York City, will be re-taking our City back from the ESTABLISHMENT (bankers, media/PR spinners/lawyers and expatriates/third country nationals/Clintons)! Charlie Rangel STOPPED HRC this week - because if he didn’t, WE WOULD HAVE and recall his seat in Harlem as well! He worked a lifetime to become head of the House, Ways & Means Commitee — but can ONLY keep that perch if the poor citizens of Harlem allow him to! Harlem is my home. It is stuck in a time warp. I live in Soho — but Harlem is my heart. Look for a representatives from New York City, who has been awakened by the Clinton (no coattails, destructive) legacy of this Campaign! YES WE CAN!!!

Phyllis - I think I was posting a kudos to Suzanne. Sorry if it came through in the wrong place.

Anne - I appreciate your sensitivity. I post, despite the FACT I am furious the owners of this site REFUSE to acknowledge Senator Obama in ANY WAY beyond as a default of Senator Clinton. I too am conflicted. Should I validate a Community owned by media veterans that totally IGNORES Senator Obama’s historic Nomination — that has LESS informed content than the traditional media venues they work for? Or, should I ignore them and their increasing IRREVELANCY and commune with real American women of every stripe to help them process the historic nature of what we are LIVING in REAL TIME — through the prism of another perspective that is not reflected AT ALL by this Community or to a lesser extent — the traditional media. We are LIVING history this week. You would NEVER know it on this site…excepting the women and men who post…and contribute their time, energy and perspectives. That continues to AMAZE me. When you read that I am RANTING and know differently, that teaches you something about what some in your family deal with every day, every month, every year and for a lifetime. Making a quality life is the challenge — and, a worthy one. The Obamas having played by the rules and overcome those challenges and taken on the Clinton MACHINE deserves recognition from ALL Americans. My ultra-Conservative friends ADMIRE them because they never could do it. My Republican friends are clapping and high-fiving for them — and sharing our pride. This site does NOT respect or reflect this historic moment. This isn’t a complaint. This is a statement and challenge for that to CHANGE. CHANGE WE CAN BELIEVE IN! Media we can believe in! jOURNALISM we can once again believe in! YES WE CAN!

Phyllis — There you see more of the double standard. HRC supporters will vote for a man who calls his wife a C..NT…and some love Bill Clinton, ignoring his track record — and HRC’s efforts to deflect/defend him. John McCain has BRAWLED on the Senate floor…but that’s OK. HRC supporters will validate, ignore his conduct and vote for him. Nice.

French Heart - I am not lumping anyone together. HRC has identified her constituency — and I accept her interpretation of who they are. She also pitched them John McCain as the alternative no matter what her speech today states. She never told New Yorkers her true values and feelings and priorities. She also told us she would NOT run for the Presidency — when we voted her as replacement for the legendary Sen.Moynihan. We’ve heard her pitches and speeches before. Pls. be assured I don’t lump anyone in a group. HRC has designated “hard working…very hard working….white Americans” as HER CONSTITUENCY. For the record, that identity doesn’t reflect ANY of the Caucasian people I know — male/female. That designation is HRC’s for the McCain-voting independents who will NOT vote for an African-American because of his color. I am proud to say I don’t know ANY Americans who will be making their vote based upon HRC’s singular criteria…except the Clintons…who I don’t choose to know going forward. Hope that clarifies things - because this is complex. HRC identified RACISTS, not any ethnicity or gender. They know who they are and now, we know who they are. She is speaking to them. She called out to them and asked for their votes — instead of encouraging them to rise above that criteria. She VALIDATED it. We heard you Hillary! In the canyons of Manhattan, we heard you! Have a good vacation!

French Hart — the ONLY pol I have ever heard say that out in the open as a RATIONALE for asking for votes was GEORGE WALLACE. These words were subliminal. They were overt. There is a double standard. Taylor is voicing her perspective in her own voice/identity. It is subjected to blowback. HRC can make a statement basically segregating and isolating Appalachians based upon ethnicity — directly — and be embraced. By the way, history will make the case HRC used our friends in Appalachia and demeaned them in the process. History will also say the same for New Yorkers — who NEVER would have voted for someone who asked for the votes of “hard working….very hard working, white Americans.” NEVER.

French Heart - the legacy of HRC’s Campaign and final case over the last month she KNEW she was losing - was to leave TALKING POINTS that are as baseless and flawed and disengenous as the Bosnia-sniper fire delusions we STILL can’t believe in New York. We KNOW something about being under ATTACK in Manhattan and it isn’t something you EVER FORGET — and have more respect for the dead than to leverage their loss and their families’ loss w/LIES for political gain. HRC’s supporters — especially those who are now backing McCain — were her focus during the last month or two. She created a NARRATIVE they will buy hook, line and sinker. It’s a nice story (Bill now knows what the real “fairy tale” is). Hillary was running to prove a woman can run — and did whatever it took to make that case, including lying. Barack was running for the Presidency — to begin repairing the DAMAGE of the last 7 years — for ALL Americans. He won the MAJORITY VOTE and will do so again, this Fall. Americans are PATRIOTS, not petulant hair-tearing cry-babies.

http://thepage.time.com/obama-statement-on-clintons-endorsement/ Obama Statement on Clinton’s Endorsement“Obviously, I am thrilled and honored to have Senator Clinton’s support. But more than that, I honor her today for the valiant and historic campaign she has run. She shattered barriers on behalf of my daughters and women everywhere, who now know that there are no limits to their dreams. And she inspired millions with her strength, courage and unyielding commitment to the cause of working Americans. Our party and our country are stronger because of the work she has done throughout her life, and I’m a better candidate for having had the privilege of competing with her in this campaign. No one knows better than Senator Clinton how desperately America and the American people need change, and I know she will continue to be in the forefront of that battle this fall and for years to come,” said U.S. Senator Barack Obama.

http://andrewsullivan.theatlantic.com/the_daily_dish/2008/06/yes-she-did… Senator Clinton did all she needed to do: thanked everyone and unequivocally endorsed and supported Barack Obama. One theme stuck out to me: she essentially said that even though she was careful to avoid ever saying that she was running because she was a woman and that people should vote for her because she is a woman, that’s what she believes in private. That’s the theme she spoke of most compellingly. She is Ellen Malcolm’s spiritual sister. In the end, Clinton remains wedded to the identity politics of her generation and her time. It’s a powerful message after so many long decades and centuries in which women have been denied full equality in law and society. It’s a necessary message and a moral message. But it becomes circular and self-defeating when it becomes its own rationale. I think history will show that she didn’t quite have the talent to do it on her own steam, but that she made it much easier for another woman to become president one day. Her two biggest problems: She first married a man who was her political superior and was then defeated by one. She is a very talented politician but it was her fate to find her career hemmed in by two even more talented ones: Bill and Barack. She made up for it all with enormous hard work, diligence and ruthlessness. At any other moment, she would have won. But this is history and politics at the highest level. You cannot defeat such a moment if you are a Salieri. And she had to deal with two Mozarts. Buh-bye.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/06/06/angry-clinton-supporters_n_1056… Hillary Clinton Voters Prepare to Vote for John McCain ======================================== Democrats, here is the real HRC constituency and focus. This will a) cost her ANY consideration for the VP slot - if there is any going on, b) COST HER THE NY SENATE SEAT. HRC has provided the foundation talking points AGAINST Senator Obama and no speech today changes that fact. It is the thread in the weave of the Republican pundits and FoxNews right now. Enjoy your vacation Hillary. Leave from DC. Sooner or later you will have to return to New York…and I don’t mean Upstate.
