How do you define success?
Looking at my daughter and realizing that she surpassed all my expectations as a human being, a professional, and a citizen of the world makes me feel happy and successful at the same time.
Right next in line are the wonderful friends who have been very loyal and supportive for many years….

Hi Suzanne de Cornelia,
Great email which reminded me of the time when I power walked my little heart out each day after work for probably two years. It always lessened the pain and brought clarity into my thoughts. ……..

The wOw Conversation: Is There Ever a Right Time to Retire?
The right time to retire is a very personal issue.
If you are having fun working and your paycheck is fair, why stop?
In my case, I did not kiss up to my boss and kept my nose to my desk.
Around the time when I turned 60, I constantly kept getting more and more accounts. First I took it as a challenge, because I always thrived on challenges. It became obvious that I was being forced out. I chose to retire when I turned 62. Yes, I took a big hit in pay. But, as long as I know how much money comes in every month, I can manage.
I was being replaced by a coworker who is 20 years my junior. It turned out she could only handly half of my workload. Frankly, that was the best news I had regarding my former job situation. I have been smiling ever since.
First if all, I wake up with a smile, have breakfast in bed. Then I go to the gym where I know quite a few interesting people. I now belong to a book club which I adore, and in winter I do cross country skiing and snow shoeing. And I picked up golf after retirement. Now I am an assistant golf coach for Special Olympics and can’t wait for training to begin in a week. Last year I was in my first golf tournament for charity.
Immediately after retirement I decided to give back to the community in gratitude for the fact that I raised a daughter who never gave me trouble when I was a single mother.
For 4 1/2 years I represented two children in the court system as a Court Appointed Special Advocate. I was instrumental in making sure that the first child had a future and was adopted into a safe, loving and stable home. The second child is also in a safe environment where all her needs are being met.
As far as I am concerned, retirement can be the start to a very fulfilling new life. Besides, at my age, keeping healthy in body in spirit is almost a fulltime job, but very much worth the effort…….
