Cynthia McFadden Joins Tonight's Reader Forum on The John McCain-Barack Obama Presidential Debate 2

we can do them all—baloney!——McCain good answer obama—we do have to prioritize

Lesley Stahl Questions ... Curtis Sittenfeld, Author of American Wife

I am a big Curtis Sittenfeld fan. Have read her other books. Especially liked PREP. I just got my pre-ordered AMERICAN WIFE book and will be starting it. When I first learned about this book, I was a little disappointed at her topic choice (thought it was a “copout”). But this interview and other one’s I have read with Sittenfeld convinced me that it is a worthy read. Will give an update after I read it! Thanks, Leslie, for your interview.

Liz Smith: Governor Palin and Her Merry Men!

Thank you ,LIz, for your listing of what I was feeling about this nomination. I NEVER had any intention of voting for Palin. What I find disturbing about her attacks is how they are couched in her snippy, sarcastic, snarly manner and then delivered with her feminist guile. Daring anyone to question her…would everyone find her so special if she was not, to quote some, “a hot babe???”

Cher To Hillary: We Want You, Babe!

Isn’t it interesting that Cher needs to call Liz after dinner with Bill Clinton and Paul Begala??? Whose idea was that? Like most of us take our cue from Cher! (no offense intended Cher—-great singer but not my guide for politics!) This is Obama’s time and I am so tired of the whinning from Hil supporters. Any Hillary supporter who votes for McCain will have no one to blame but themselves if he wins. I personally believe that it will be disillusioned Republicans who will help propel Obama to victory. Dorothy said it best why we do not need McCain. “Sore losers” will become the new mantra for Clintons if they don’t get over it! She lost because she ran a BAD campaign

Message to All Whining Female Democrats: Hillary's Out. Get Over It, by Barbara Goldsmith

I agree with Lucinda. Obama ran a better campaign. Hillary is not the right person to be the first woman president. She came close…..but not enough. I wish people would stop focusing on trying to get Hillary supporters to flip/convert over night. Give them time to adjust to the new reality. I am now living in upstate NY where there are many passionate Hillary supporters and after listening to them express their love of Hillary, I don’t share their feelings, but I believe that they need time to accept the loss and readjust. Why are people getting bent out of shape over this. The snipping needs to stop. While the Hillary supporters heal, the Obama organizers can move forward. After a nice summer vacation hopefully they can come to terms and realize that the best bet for the country and the party is a Democratic president.

What is your fantasy concert experience?

Best concert ever? Willie Nelson outdoors at the Backyard in Austin, TX 1996. First thrill of a concert—-Sonny & Cher who OPENED for the Beach Boys around 1964. Most interesting concert pairing——Ray Charles who OPENED for Diana Ross 1967 Best Classical Concert——Arthur Rubinstein Who do I want to see? ROBIN WILLIAMS LIVE!! He makes me laugh so much, always…..

What is the best job you've ever had?

Best job—-Mom to my fabulous boys! Most interesting?—9 different jobs I had at Kodak during my 13 yrs. there. It was the beginning of moving women into management and I learned a lot from some great men. I also encountered a lot of discrimination. Most interesting summer job—-a Washington Intern during the summer of 1971. Met a lot of the players in Washington and was able to go the hearings about the Pentagon Papers. Ah, to be young and in DC!! My later job as psychotherapist was the most rewarding. With my recent move out o f state I really miss it.

Robert F. Kennedy: The Greatest Tragedy of All

It was a very sad day. I was a senior in high school and we were doing fun things—-senior balls, senior picnics, etc. But when Bobby was killed it just made the world seem scarier. It also felt like the end of hope. I totally understood why Jackie Kenney left the USA. Many people thought she was crazy to worry about the future of her children. I didn’t. Why not leave a country that kills your family? I think a lot of young people turned inward and partied like it was the end of the world. That year and for the rest of the 60’s and early 70’s. Live for today. Who knew about tomorrow. Assasinations and Vietnam——-it was too painful. Better to get lost in drugs, sex and rock ‘n roll. What makes this a devastating tragedy is that some people never recovered. I read in today’s NY Times the OP-Ed sharings of RFK’s children. Our loss was great—-theirs was greater. Thank you to Mr. Benson doing your job that sad day. We will never forget.

Who won last night's debate in Philadelphia?

Elizabeth B. I agree with you about the League of Women Voters. They used to run excellent debates. That is what is needed. Fairness, decorum and respect for the candidates and the audience were a cornerstone how they ran the debates.

Who won last night's debate in Philadelphia?

I am a little frustrated as I wrote a long comment and it got lost! Oh, well, perhaps it is symbolic of my frustration with last night’s debate. Who won? No one. Not the viewers who had to endure a poorly designed debate with superficial questions and lot of posturing by the questioners (who were not journalists!). Not the candidates. Barack was tired and defensive but still held his “cool.” Not Hillary who was in “policy wonk” form. Not ABC who did not seem to know how to conduct a legitimate debate. It was a lose-lose all around. I hope the Democrats stop debating. It is all downhill. After 21 debates ( and I have watched ALL of them) it has already been said. I hope Barack wins the next few primaries so the super delegates will step up and end this misery. Or we will lose the election in the fall. I must say I am not a Hillary supporter especially after how she & Bill have conducted this campaign (playing the race card, saying anything to get elected, tearing down their fellow Democrat, etc.). They both need to go back to “day jobs”—-Hillary to the Senate, and Bill to being a statesmanlike ex-President. Enough already.

'Ann Richards Is With Us in Spirit; She Can Never Die'

I discovered wow from watching the fabulous ladies on Charlie Rose. WHAT A GREAT WEBSITE!! I have spent the last hour reading everything. I will be visiting often. About Ann Richards….what a marvelous strong woman. I moved from Austin, TX in Aug. to upstate NY (reluctantly) but I figured if Ann, Molly, and Lady Bird had to leave Austin (at least in physical body form) then I could endure leaving too. All the women were very strong and they would have loved this site. One of my favorite Ann sightings was meeting her in Schlotzky’s on a Sunday morn after she had walked around Town Lake. She was radiant dressed in black lycra ( and looking good!) with a red bandanna wrapped around her neck. She was cheerful and funny as only she could be. I know she and Molly ( a sister Smithie) are hooting it up in the great hereafter! PS Charlie Rose rocks in being totally on top of what is happening…WOWOWOW! PPS I love all the red on your site!
