My Comments (84 so far…)

Sunday is the 11th anniversary of Princess Diana's death. Do you remember where you were when you heard the news that she died?

I woke up that Sunday morning, made a pot of coffee, then realized I was out of milk and would have to go out to the corner store. I opened the door to my apartment and there was my New York Times, with the headline “Diana, Princess of Wales, 36, Dies in a Crash in Paris.” It was a tremendous shock to read this headline. I knew nothing of the reports during the night of her accident. Simultaneously, I remember thinking that this may be the last big piece of news I ever find out by seeing a headline in a newspaper. And so far, it has been.

Michelle Obama a Hit at Democratic Convention

Michelle Obama’s speech last night was wonderful. I am a big supporter of Senator Clinton, but she is not the only woman in the Democratic Party. There were a lot of strong women on that stage last night.

Barack Obama Selects Senator Joseph Biden As Running Mate

It is an awesome choice. Biden’s speech today was terrific.

Do you think you look better than your mother did at your age?

I look younger than my mother did, but it’s partially because I color my hair. (My mother had absolutely beautiful silver hair at my age. I don’t have the nerve to do that yet.) I am 60, I never wear any makeup, and everybody always tells me how young I look, so for now I am not changing anything.

Liz Answers wOw Critics of the John and Elizabeth Edwards Story

Couldn’t agree with you more, Liz. Thanks for your always-sensible point of view. I don’t care about John Edwards’ or anybody else’s sex life, but I am really appalled by his hypocrisy. And yes, I realize he is not the only hypocrite in politics. I do think it is an interesting story. Otherwise I wouldn’t be reading it and commenting on it. I believed in his message and his sincerity and I would have voted for him. It’s too bad. But his problems are entirely self-inflicted.

What adage do you live your life by?

We cannot all do great things, but we can do small things with great love.” I have always loved this quote, from Mother Teresa.

Are you territorial when it comes to your friends?

It just so happens that I have introduced so many of my friends to one another that they have long ago formed various sub-groups and so forth. Even if sometimes people forget how they met a certain person, I frequently recall that I was a part of it, and it makes me very, very happy. Isn’t that what brings us joy in life - connecting with each other?

Announcing wOw's Book Party!

I’ll be hanging out on this thread!” What a great sentence - me too!

Who is your favorite or most memorable relative (not including your spouse) and why?

I meant to say, “I have no children and I grieved the loss of my parents for many years. (Still do,)”

Who is your favorite or most memorable relative (not including your spouse) and why?

These stories are very beautiful. My parents died when I was in my mid-thirties. I have no and I grieved the loss of my parents for many years. (Stlll do.) About ten years ago, my husband said, “While you’re yearning for that (their love and wisdom) and don’t have it, you better create it within you, because somebody needs it. For THOSE people, you are your parents.” That got my attention. For the last fifteen years, I have tried to fill that role for my nieces and nephews. I am lucky to have such a wonderful husband to help me snap out of my grief, and urge me to pass on the good stuff I received from my parents to the next generation, who never knew them. This is a little off the point of the question, but I wanted to share my story.

Ten Celebrity Hairstyles That Take Off Ten Years

Thanks - it is so icky (as I’m sure you will agree) to be reading along and then come across these items. And they are all so demeaning to women, which makes it worse.
