What gadget invented in the past ten years can't you live without?

Doll Lady - that is hilarious! I was just at friends this weekend who have a george foreman grill and i’m buying one today! i was sooo impressed with it!

What gadget invented in the past ten years can't you live without?

My blackberry and my ipod. I use mapquest on my blackberry all the time. when i’m waiting for planes or doctors appointments i play games on it or read the news. and my ipod…. ten years ago I was trying like hell to go running with one of those supposedly skip free single cd players. prior to that i’d tried using a portable tape player and of course small am.fm radio. there is nothing like running or working out with an ipod. love it.

'wOw Friend' Judy Bachrach: More Trash Than Class at Harvard?

Famous peoples sex lives have been making millions of dollars forever. The less likely someone is percieved to be a dirty old man the more money the tell all book that says he was a dirty old man is going to make. Whether it’s Harvard or University of Phoenix online. everyone wants to make money. Not to mention… the rich have been buying their way and their kids way into Harvard for years. It’s not like they’re above a little money making.

What were you told a 'real lady' had to do?

I just can’t get over all these things! Honestly… you may all think i was raised under a rock or something but I really thought that these things were fictional! This whole “be a lady” thing was so not a part of my upbringing that I just sort of assumed it wasn’t a part of anyones upbringing. I think I finally know why some people can be so offended by me!!!

What were you told a 'real lady' had to do?

I have to add to my original post after reading everyone elses! My life is so much better because of the things my mom did teach me. She taught me to question authority. She always said that no amount of education meant that someone knew what was best for me. or that they could be trusted or were honest. she taught me that people had to earn your respect not get it automatically based on the money they made or the education she had. she questioned things. she questioned the why’s the where’s the who’s. she was limited by her mental health on what she could act on. but she passed all of the best of her on to me and I got lucky. I’m not ill. I could act on it. So my life is good. She taught me to work really hard. by example not words. In our house of only women. the world “lady” was just never spoken. I had my share of things to overcome. that just (luckily) was never one of them.

What were you told a 'real lady' had to do?

my mom was a bit before her time. even though she was born in 1925 I don’t recall a single conversation with her about what it took to be “a lady”. I was born a bit later in her life for that era. 1963. My mom was a prolific hunter a “rounder”, she was a rosy the riveter, and she left the one love of her life in the middle of the night becasue she could see he’d be bad for us. then spent the rest of her life single. Thank the universe for my mom the rebel.

If you could live inside a movie, which would it be?

Oh ya… the movie 300. I want to be the spartan queen. so we all die in the end. did you see those men? it would be worth it. After we saw that movie I told my husband I wanna go home and “play spartan” LOL

If you could live inside a movie, which would it be?

Flash Dance - or Dirty Dancing - the woman who played Penny in Dirty Dancing did the actual dancing in Flash Dance and I just want to dance like that! Not to mention both the men in those… oh ya. I could do that.

Part Two Cokie Roberts: Who Was John Adams's Political Compass? His Wife Abigail, Of Course

This conversation speaks to something of the Hillary campaign and criticism of her. The company my husband and I own is an almost exclusively male dominated business. It’s construction. And for the most part women are barely on the horizon in terms of the power positions. they are growing in the trades. but as far as owning and running and decision making… they are barely there. At least in the fore front. I hear the men around me scoffing all the time that Hillary claims her time in the white house gives her any experience. they say things like “so could Brett Farves wife go out and be a quarterback” (yes they think thats a valid comparison). However… being the wife of the guy in power myself. I can attribute to both how much influence I have on his decisions and how much I know and have learned from being by his side during this past seven years. And Hillary basically “worked for the company” when her husband was in the whitehouse. she wasn’t just by his side. she was an active participant in that organization and had been for many years. But men don’t like to readily acknowledge the reality of the partnership with their wives in power positions. But it is a partnership. And the influence is often immense. And Hillary’s stint as the first lady does provide “experience” that even Obama and McCain cannot match.

Life in the Little Lane: Edith Ann's Answer to a Wandering Brain

Edith darlin - look up “shizophrenia” and “bi polar” in the dictionary LOL

Are the goings-on within polygamist sects any of our business? Should they be monitored? By whom?

so no one is probably reading this thread anymore. but I just wanted to say… considering the ruling of the judge yesterday stating that the state didn’t meet the legal requirments necessary to remove children this would be an interesting thread to revive. If you read back in my comments a few pages you’ll see that I talked about meeting the requirements of “immediate harm” and that at least in my state I didn’t see how they had done that for 400+ kids. well… they didn’t. so like I said…when it comes to government powere watching the watchers is a big deal. Look what they’ve done now. traumatized children. removed not just any child from their home, but kids who have such specific beliefs that it was extra traumatizing. I hate to say I told you so this late in the game, but man I KNEW IT. I knew they couldn’t possibly have pulled that off efficiently. I work in this system and it’s barely capable of managing what it does every day. much less something like what texas did.

What are your plans for Memorial Day weekend?

Riding oour motorcycles for fun and for memoriam. My husband and I belong to the patriot gaurd. It’s motorcycle riders who provide escorts at military funerals and events. we only recently joined and it has been heart wrenching. It’s a national association but it’s run state by state. I get an e mail almost every single day regarding another fallen soldier and their funeral. We haven’t been able to actual ride a funeral escort yet as they’ve been to far for us to get to our when we were out of town. But there are several memorial events this weekend. We’re hoping to hook up.

Whoopi the Decoder Finds Out Why We Get 'Taxed up the Behind'

Alright people. I mean it. i’m scared! I’m scared because i feel like I have no voice in this in any real way. government is out of control in this country. And i’m not a conspiracy nut, i willingly pay taxes and would continue to do so, I’m just feeling well… voiceless. I work for government and am beyond shocked at the wasteful spending. And it’s not conscious wasteful spending. most of the people who work for governement don’t know anything else. They actually BELIEVE they need more money to do an effective job. And lemme tell ya. They’re wrong! I worked for governement for the first 15 years of my adult life. then went to work in a for profit company then helped my husband build a succesful for profit business then went back to work for governement. And was shocked beyond belief at the poor money management and wastefullness of the agency I work for. That being DSHS. It’s appalling. so not only are we being “taxed out (or up) the behind) but our money is being wasted and I FEEL LIKE I HAVE NO VOICE AND I’M PISSED

Would you feel safe with a woman as commander in chief? Why or why not?

Of course I’d feel safe with a woman commander in chief. Cracks me up that it’s still a question. As to Hillary her campaign reminds me of something that happened to me in my early thirties. Long long story short. I was working for an agency where all (and I mean ALL ) of the men in power had joined promise keepers. They were holding promise keeper meetings on site. they were questioing my religion (atheist) they were promoting the men in their group. I took them to task through channels. A woman I really admired pulled me aside one day and said “i want you to know that I admire what you’re doing and I think you’re making this place better for all the rest of us women here. but you’re screwing yourself”. She was right of course. That place fairly quickly promoted women into all three of the top spots. Good women. I’m not one of them.

Whoopi the Decoder Finds Out Why We Get 'Taxed up the Behind'

Honestly the tax and economy issues scares me enough i almost couldn’t read this! The social security pay out info was fascinating. my kids are all in their twenties and working basically entry level type jobs. My 25 year old has this HUGE amount taken out of each of her checks. Way more than I thought she should for “taxes”. Now i know why! Makes me sad. the next question is… how do we fix it? Really? Can we ask this guy that?
