Eileen - thanks for the compliment and for the sentiments. i’ve never heard of sun magazine. why do you think it would be a fit? I can’t actually write unless i’m "feeling" something. like i was for that particular little piece. I’m sooo impressed by people who say that they write every day. or book writers who make up fiction. I don’t quite understand how they do it. I consider myself a dilletente lol.

How did i miss this post? I hear you and cheer you Mr. Wow. Especially the part about morally objecting so not wanting YOUR tax dollars to fund something. I don’t want to fund the war, the death penalty, nor locking up prostitutes, pot dealers (guess I won’t be voted into office anytime soon will I?) nor policing the stupid don’t ask don’t tell policy in our military. Like haven’t they figured out yet that it’s really only the old guys that give a shit if someone is gay or not. Our  young soldiers/sailors certainly could care less.

Ruth- this cracked me up! i’ve been wondering out loud for years if men just lay their heads down at night and have statistics somehow float into their heads by osmosis. for example… i never see my husband read anything about football. He watches games but he doesn’t watch all those sport shows. yet he can rattle off football stats like a commentator. When we are out with couples, other husbands who i don’t even imagine following sports will rattle of statistics.

As to the forming an opinion thing I really noticed it during the elections. I tend to do a lot of reading. I’ll read the entire health bill for example. before i form or discuss my full opinion on it. Then once my opinion is formed i discard all the detail knowledge out of my brain and keep my opinion. so i have a hard time arguing stats with people as i watch them and include them in my formation of an opinion but don’t keep them. the men i noticed however ONLY read stats and ususally just the side they wanted to vote for lol!

Ditto Mary - although not nearl as lucrative of thoughts lol! I don’t have a time or place really. My best thinking is rather random. Although I do my best "work" first thing in the morning. And I would have to say that after about 7pm i’m useless in the brain department. I don’t "think" at all in bed or trying to sleep.

I have random creative thoughts. 15 or so years ago i was driving and a stand up comedy routine came into my head. i couldn’t stop until i’d written it and then i HAD to perform it. I performed at an amateur night and got invited back to open for a headliner! then i never did it again. Below is a link to a story i HAD to write about a month ago. then i HAD to post it online because the cycle isn’t complete until i get to share. I probably won’t have something like that again for a year..It’s called "weekend with a smart sex offender"

another thought…. start a meetup group on www.meetup.com for people in your area who are unemployed to support each other and exchange ideas and leads.

This is a random thrown out there post for some of the folks on here who have been unemployed for a long time. Have you tried federal, state or county funded programs for folks who are unemployed? someone above mentioned the unemployment agencies. In our state it’s called work source and the website is www.go2worksource.com check out the "training programs" links etc. it’s not your state likely but i’d assume your states have something similiar. I’m guessing there is going to be grant money funneling down to these programs due to the jobless rate…

then there’s that lol… I can totally understand not wanting to do advertising. I will tell you however, and just in case others are interested in our conversation… that I didn’t really put any money out of pocket when i started my little advertising "service". I pitched clients and got retainers first. Then used the retainers to buy media buying software. so i was never really out of pocket at any time during those couple of years. I worked from my home and computer. What i’m doing now… that was a little bit of investment up front. I had to pay about 600 for the training (it was out of town) and then i had to have insurance before i could take on a case. That was pricey. Around 2K. But i made every penny back in three months. And i only have to buy that insurance once a year. What i’m getting at is that not all business ventures require a big out of pocket. Service oriented businesses like both of the things i’ve done on my own don’t require a lot out of pocket. So maybe there is something in that info you can use. I like your take on things. it’s a new phase…

If I were you i’d charge a fee based on how much work someone wants and have a percentage of it due before you start.
